Indiana Jones will not be recast - says producer

Did you read the opening post? They will continue the franchise but with a new character that will not be called Indiana Jones.

I did, sorry should have made it more clear, thats my issue - why call it indiana jones if he won't be the titular character? Indiana Jones 7 - the Temple of the dragon Emperor - featuring Nathan Drake - not exactly Indiana Jones then

I'd rather if they want to keep Ford as Indi, then have his son recast and take over the mantle as Indiana Jones (Jr) they can have Ford reprise his role as Snr and be like Connery was

Disney does what Disney thinks suits the target demography, not what some 69 year old producer wants. Of course they will recast because they want to keep making Indiana Jones movies for decades. They need an actor that is up for it and Ford just can't convincingly play a WW2-Indy anymore. And Nazi time were the best Indy movies.

Don't know if want.

I love ford, but he is to old.
And I don't want an indy movie, where he plays subsidiary role.

Just give it to Shia and do a sequel.
No reboot either.

Edit:

Woot?
No ford and a new character, but will still be called Indiana Jones?

Come on.
Just continue with his son in the 50th/60th.

Nah.
Red Letter Media had it right, no one wants to watch Ford looking flabby and sick, just face facts. Hang up the hat for good or stop pussyfooting it and recast. They're going to remake Indiana Jones 20 years from now anyway so why bother acting like they won't just because For is still around.

I doubt it'll take that long. Ford is too old and in no shape as a leading Indy role. Just fucking recast it and make money.

I take it he meant not recast Indiana Jones, but continue it as a franchise with a differently named protagonist and thereby series. There's no reason it has to be Indiana Jones after all, that's just Ford's character's name.

Though Mutt Jones is obviously terrible as a name. Star Lord Jones? Eh, too cocky. Oh, I've got it: BALDRICK JONESY. Do some nice archaeology, get people excited about it, wind up on a spaceship and having a cat named after you. Until it gets a cunning plan of its own of course.

Do not let Lucas anywhere near the movie.

Last Crusade Development said:
Lucas initially suggested making the film "a haunted mansion movie", for which Romancing the Stone writer Diane Thomas wrote a script. Spielberg rejected the idea because of the similarity to Poltergeist, which he had co-written and produced. Lucas first introduced the Holy Grail in an idea for the film's prologue, which was to be set in Scotland. He intended the Grail to have a pagan basis, with the rest of the film revolving around a separate Christian artifact in Africa. Spielberg did not care for the Grail idea, which he found too esoteric, even after Lucas suggested giving it healing powers and the ability to grant immortality. In September 1984, Lucas completed an eight-page treatment titled Indiana Jones and the Monkey King, which he soon followed with an 11-page outline. The story saw Indiana battling a ghost in Scotland before finding the Fountain of Youth in Africa.

It's Mutt's time to rise....

... It only makes sense that Indy search for the Fountain of Youth next.

Having him find the fountain of youth at the start and then replacing him with another actor actually seems like a great way to pass it on. I'd much prefer that over the typical "we just started over with someone else" reboot.

Have we forgotten that when Indy IV came out we all breathed a sigh of relief that Shia didn't pick up the hat that would have symbolized him being the new Indy. Now we're all jumping about hoping he gets to be Indy at some point. Or at least the lead of a new adventure?

Not that I'm complaining. I like Shia LaBeef. I have no Bouf with him. How about we figure out a way to get him and Chris Pratt into the same Indy movie? That would be something to watch.

Also no goddamned aliens. Religious spiritual stuff is awesome but we don't need aliens mixed into this universe! It never made sense in the context of a world where religion is true. I place the blame for that bullshit squarely on Lucas.

A sequel starring Mutt Williams would be set in the 60s or 70s... It wouldn't have the same sense of mystery and adventure as the original films.

I wish the role would die with Ford (which sounds kind of fucked up, I just mean I don't want anyone else to ever play Indy even if that means no more movies. Which still sounds kind of fucked up, but it is what it is.), but it we all know on a long enough time scheme they will recast.

Meh, I say let Shia have a crack at it. I've actually become much more fond of him since he's gone batshit, and I think he's a much better actor than people give him credit for. Just mould the character to be a bit less of a prick and do away with the cringey greaser/James Dean wannabe stuff, and make him an adventurer, albeit perhaps one who's a little more hesitant and definitely less learned than his father.

Yet.

There is still plenty you can do with old Indy as long as you stay away from having him do ridiculous stunt work. He can be a mentor for a younger character, which is what they sort of tried with Mutt. I would rather have someone else than Mutt though.

You do know that River Phoenix is dead right?

I feel like you're neutering the character by doing this. At that point the story is about someone else, and you're just using the Indiana Jones name for brand recognition. Indy to me is a character best realized between 35-50 years old and capable of all the action we've known him for through the years. I really don't think he works as a 'mentor' role to someone else in his own film.

I'd rather Hollywood come up with a new franchise hero.

Lucas or Spielberg must have made a promise to somebody important to them to do all 5 films, can't say I'm looking forward after the 4th film.

They will probably have Ford narriating stories as Indy, possibly going over artifacts he had collected and are residing in a museum. Then you have a younger guy doing the action scenes. This way, Ford is Indy, yet we still get something plausible.
Could just have him retire in a museum cause "it belongs in a museum" or going over a history lesson in class and when he brings something up he'll just remember what he did.

It just baffles me to no end how so many people seemingly despise seeing older people be a active main character in movies, or anything really. Life isn't over just because one gets older, age is just a number.

If Harrison Ford can do something, Indy can do it to. And Harrison is certainly in very good shape and can ride horses, run around, throw punches and crack the whip just fine. If there is a stunt Ford just can't do, just don't do it.
Heck he even recovers stunningly fast from injuries, only a couple of months since he survived a plane crash.

To me the movies were about Indiana Jones himself just as much as it was about his adventures.
When Ford, the guy who gave him life, grows older so does Indy. It's only natural.
And to me seeing an older Indy still kick ass just makes him even more awesome, because you know it's not getting any easier with age.

I'm with you. I think an older, slowed down but still driven Indy is a far more compelling character to explore than just another Chris Pratt action vehicle to extend the life of the franchise.

And Harrison Ford is in better shape at 70 than most people at 30.

I'd have absolutely no problem with a storyline that plays with two times: The older Indy played by Ford that still got it, but is underestimated by a younger guy (grandkid perhaps) and has to remember an adventure from younger days -where his recast is up against some Nazis- to solve some mystery in present day

Kind of like The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck went.

It sets up a new Indy and still gives Ford the possibility to retire the character with all the dignity he deserves.

Welp, next Indy film confirmed to be terrible. Maybe Harrison Ford will die or become paralyzed or something first.

Jesus Christ dude.. wow.

Anyway, i'd love it if the next movie stars Harrison again going on some adventure and then meets up with Short Round now an old guy too and he helps Indy out.

I feel like they should introduce some older characters again and make it fun.

Like with Temple of Doom because it was so dark for Crusade they wanted it to be this fun advneture again. Because Crystal Skull was a turd they should do the same with 5.

Anthony Ingruber is Harrison's love child.

Also this, have Tony play Indy's son and hand it over. Dude looks too much like him.
