Indie Games 2014 [July] Now Voting - Post 430!

Wow that seems really shitty. Postpone your Kickstarted game (that made more than 3 times its goal) and then advertise your next Kickstarter game.

Hopefully people are wise and avoid giving them more money. This is not the kind of developer you should support.

Didn't even notice they created a new account to post the new Kickstarter. Shameful.

Developers like this ruin peoples faith in Kickstarter and can potentially have an impact on other developers. So short-sighted and selfish.

According to a recent Kickstarter backer update from the Chroma Squad developers, the team has been in contact with Saban "for a while now," discussing their next move in the face of a possible lawsuit.

Saban have given Behold Studios the options of going to court, or joining forces so that Saban would receive royalties from their game.

Wow, indie drama all round. Shame to hear that Confederate Express might potentially be going off the rails. The sprite work on it did look rather nice and all.

Proxy Blade Zero is 100% finished now! At last I'm done with this project. It will be released on Steam in less than 2 weeks.

Old trailer here if you don't know what this is about, I'll be working on a new one for the release.

I'm looking for a few people willing to test the Steam version for me. I want to know how is the difficulty balance, in order to tweak a few values before calling it fully done in 2~3 days. Hit me up if you got the time to give me good feedback.

Edit: if you got capacity for a twitch stream, I'm even more for it, as I would be able to see how it goes first hand.

I'd definitely be interested in playing this.

You guys see about the Confederate Express KS fiasco? I guess it was a matter of time until something I backed had problems.

Here's their latest update:

And the dev's new Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kilobite/knuckle-club

I'm not about ready to jump on the scam bandwagon, but I am disappointed and annoyed since Confederate Express looked so promising

Shameful

I hope the new kickstarter fails.

I saw it yesterday when I was leaving home, and the worst part is they can't even try to battle Saban in the court because they are a small studio.

Fantastic news! I remember when the Indiegogo campaign was live, a shame that it wasn't funded. Congrats to have finally finished the game

Starslinger Kings - ????

http://www.2hitstudio.com/index.php/projects/starslinger-kings#.U8r67Nm9LCQ

It wouldn't be a real mech game if you weren't able to pick and choose your parts, right? In Starslinger Kings you'll be able to trade out your arm, back and leg parts with those you find on the battlefield. It will be as easy as walking to where the part is and hitting the swap button. This gives you the control to play how you want to play without wasting any precious blowing-stuff-up time on convoluted menus. Sticking a gatling gun on your back will let you cut down enemies but may also slow you down, springy legs might make you jump higher at the cost of reduced armour. Find what works for you or try-and-trade your way through an entire mission!

WE ARE DOOMED is a shoot-em-up set in a vibrant world of neon colours, glitching geometry, and the odd blocky sprite. The player is armed with an overpowered laserbeam super weapon to zap baddies that are multiplying at an alarming rate.

I bought the game, but won't be able to play till August. If you're interested, my friend's impressions on his blog sold me on the game

This sounds familiar...
Doom is a first-person shoot-em-up set in a vibrant world of neon colours, occasionally-glitching geometry, and several blocky sprites. The player is armed with an overpowered laserbeam super weapon called the BFG9000 to zap baddies that are multiplying at an alarming rate (when playing on Nightmare or facing Pain Elementals/hard-to-reach Archviles/The Icon of Sin).
...sorry, I couldn't help but notice the similarities. :V

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/682108903/jotun?ref=category

The Kickstarter for Jotun has launched. A goal of 50k CAD.

I really like the way it looks and the concept of the game, but I just feel... worried.

The gameplay idea that they are proposing, SotC-like combat in 2D, seems very difficult to realize. I don't really want to back this until I see an actual full fight.

Yeah, SOTC like combat is just a catch phrase, you cant replicate that in 2D. Neither the size or the intricacies of the climbing design (which was the biggest part of the combat for me).

Shadow of the Colossus, one of the best products gaming has ever created.

Ahh, I getya. probably should of known that I am looking at my copy right now.

Concerning Jotun, I have to agree really. The concept sounds potentially very enjoyable but the description of the gameplay is a little all over the place being that they name drop Zelda and Dark Souls but the concept screens make it look more like a 2D brawler with a pulled out camera. I think I would need some kind of confirmation as to the direction the game was going in before I put any money down.

Yeah, I think namedropping all directions without a clear indication of what the game actually plays like should ring some alarm bells.

OlliOlli is going to be $12.99

Game worth getting? From what I've read, it's more of a twitchy precision game rather than your usual skateboarding game

I played a bit of OlliOlli on my Vita a while back. Fairly enjoyable game although once the levels start getting difficult I found them reliant on annoying levels of trial and error due to their being very little ability to see and predict what is coming till it is already too late to deal with it. Still fairly fun if you ever wanted to play Canabalt on a skateboard.

"Canabalt on a skateboard" is doing it a bit of disservice though, considering how much you can do with the trick system.

Ehh, okay fair play, I'll give you that. The trick system is fairly cool, although I found the harsh destructive nature of the level design didn't really suit an ongoing combo trick system.

Thanks I updated the post.

What do you mean about the level design? I enjoy dynamic levels, moving objects in the environment, stuff is happening, you need to react. Is that how the game is?

Anyone picked up Halfway yet? I have been following the game since they announced it but I am getting cold feet purchasing it now without some other thoughts. If Dark Souls 2 DLC and Hearthstone Naxx weren't out today it might be an easier sell but here we are.

I and Toma played an old free version, it was a competent Zelda clone from what I remember but I didn't invest much time on it, I remember Toma enjoying it though.

I enjoyed the Lenna game very much indeed. I definitely will pick up the full version, awesome to see them expanding on it :) Can someone make a post for next months thread?

And Halfway is definitely good, great ambience, satisfying combat, interesting story/mood. I played the Beta and had some concerns about the overall content and the tactical depth for the later levels, but I can play some more later tonight and give some more indepth impressions as I was mostly bug hunting so far and not so much trying to enjoy it :)
