Cool IOS game coming in October, from Madgarden and Rocketcat (Mage Gauntlet)

Death Road to Canada
Trailer - http://youtube.com/watch?v=tNqfTceGAW4

From Toucharcade forum:
Death Road to Canada is a new collaboration I'm working on with Madgarden. It's a randomized permadeath road trip simulator. You and your group of survivors have to travel from Florida to Canada, making Choose Your Own Adventure style decisions. This is mixed in with segments where you explore and loot randomly generated cities, find survivors to recruit, and try to avoid or break through increasingly huge hordes of zombies.

Some big things that set the game apart:
- The "death metaphor" style of zombie where they're slow, but persistent and in huge numbers. Shambling wall of death.
- Every survivor has a random appearance, personality, and special traits.
- Big focus on rare surprises and Easter Egg style events.
- Play as a dog for some reason.
- CYOA events influnced by the personalities, stats, and background of your group of survivors.

It's inspired by King of Dragon Pass, River City Ransom, Wasteland Kings (by Vlambeer), The Walking Dead (tv show), and a very tiny bit of Oregon Trail.

Will be posting news about the game and answering any questions in this thread. We're shooting for October. I'm thinking $5 on iOS, in exchange for having no IAP.

The premise is definitely awesome. I look forward to hearing what you think.

Well, he already did:D

Well, that feels a bit like wasted money for now. There are some things currently in the game, but its not really a proper game yet and its horribly implemented. No saving yet, bugs, and Escape just quits the whole application. I'll dig more into this once its a bit further along in development. He is currently implementing lots of background simulation stuff, but there isnt really anything yet that the game can be recommended for other than being a nice in development showcase if someone is interested in game design and development.

Shadow Warrior - Arcade-style shooter with swords, guns and magic by the Hard Reset team.

New Game+ - Jasper Byrne's (Lone Survivor) take on dungeon crawler and beat'em up hybrid, influenced by Zelda, Dark Souls and Final Fight. There are also 4 player co-op and PvP modes.

Air Dash Online - fast paced platform fighter with an emphasis on fluid and agile character movement. It is inspired by Super Smash Bros:Melee and traditional 2D fighters. GAF on board!

White Space - Procedurally generated alien worlds exploration game inspired by the early 3D games from the '80s.

Below - New screen from the ''time exclusive'' game.

Money Money - Dunno, ''Better Beer'' did it for me.

Eldritch - A first-person action game inspired by Roguelikes, immersive sims, and H. P. Lovecraft.

The Minims - 3D Point & Click quest to find lost love.

RÆTIKON - Have you ever been lost in the woods.

Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark - action-adventure-platformer-puzzler that blazes irreverently through the counter-logical mysteries of the Standard Model, combining lateral-thinking multi-solution logic puzzles with Fists-of-Feynman kickass combat action.

More to come

New Shadow Warrior? That's news to me. Also mad keen on seeing what kinda game New Game+ ends up being, if only the name wasn't so cringe worthy.

Am I reading that right that Curve, of Stealth Bastard and Fluidity fame, is making White Space? If so then that is a very radical depature from their past work. Very intriguing.

Eldritch has me interested by that sentence alone. The low polygon modeling in the screenshots look quite charming in their own way.

If I didn't click on the website link for RÆTIKON, the screenshot and info blurb made me think it would be something like an atmospheric first person exploration type of game. However, it looks striking similar to Chasing Aurora which I see is made by the same people. So yeah, not sure what to say about it since I never played Chasing Aurora despite it apparently being different than RÆTIKON in its focus. The art style looks very pretty.

I'm not familiar with the original, but Flying Wild Hog with katanas can't go wrong.

The originals sorta the spiritual sequel of Duke Nukem 3D. It came out soon after and was made in the same engine. Must admit I've played very little of Shadow Warrior, but if the new game is angling toward being a classic style mid-90s FPS then Wild Hog could be a real good fit for that.

Just remembered, I think you can get the original on steam for free if you are interested.

Extrasolar - you'll be exploring dramatic alien landscapes, investigating scientific mysteries, and interacting with real characters as they work to uncover the true motives of the eXoplanetary Research Institute (XRI), a private space agency with a questionable past.

Tinselfly - Narrative focused game that puts an emphasis on character development and storytelling through game mechanics.

FRACT OSC - I see you baby, shaking that sexy polygons.

Hybris - Living in a dysfunctional family is not that hard, if you look at it from this perspective.

Postmortem - Narrative-adventure playing an Agent of Death who must take ONE life that could change the fate of a conflict-torn Nation The game will be released on August 15 for free.

NDE - Crazy dancing save point totem, each one will be different. Oh, and the game is an ARPG where you'll be able to travel through/between/up/down/left/right/over? three alternate universes.

Zlythy - Zlythy has been revived, rejoice! It's an atmospheric exploration game, similar to The Path, where you collect things and such, or at least that's how it was few years ago.

Before - A game about relationships, societies and survival.

Into this Wylde Abyss - a short game about struggling to survive on a freezing island and what happens in your final hours. Inspired by the dangerous sublime, Paradise Lost and AdamAtomic’s Capsule.

Legend of Iya - 2D action-adventure game inspired by Super Metroid and Castlevania SOTN.

1849 - City management sim, set during the California gold rush.

Borolandia - Action-adventure game where you have to save your friends, abducted by an alien bovine race, and the whole planet from the creatures you wouldn't expect this kind of behaviour.

Mines of Mars - Mines of Mars is a procedural atmospheric mining game that is inspired by games like Metroid and Motherload. It is also a story based adventure game with dark secrets, great weapons, tons of different items, and a gorgeous world to explore. And the new screen from Unfolded by the same publisher.

See you next week!

My friend just showed me Lilly Looking Through, why didn't I hear about it earlier? Loved the trailer and the demo as well, very charming game with great music and atmosphere. Can't wait for the full thing. I just wish they gave you the option to skip an animation you already saw, I understand they desire to put immersion over anything and not let you skip anything for this kind of game, but it's just frustrating to take longer at a puzzle than you should because of the animations. And it's not frustrating because I'm immersed and as the character can't figure it out, but game-frustrating, I know the game is getting in the way.

I had played the demo but I did not know any planned release date or development blog, so I forgot about it.

Thanks, downloading the demo.

Survivor Squad on IndieGameStand

If I do the Windows download, and not Desura, can I still get updates for Survivor Squad?
I think the IGS versions are being Updated, and if they aren't a Mail to the dev should fix it
And I am currently just warming up with the EU4 demo, it fully releases tomorrow.

Good freaking lord.
So many games...One day I'd like to sort them all into a gigantic master list and play them.
I'll do a best of 2013, once the December thread ends. I might even create a single thread for it.

There is one master list. Wait for October.

Referring to the voting list in the next thread? I was sort of assuming, he was talking about the Indies from all Indie threads so far combined, in which case, I'll likely have us voting on the best of the YEAR in december and make a new thread for our results.

I was referring to the IGF list. This is a 500- to 1000-long list of recent indie games. Some of them have an alpha demo.

My OP Indie Impressions - Part 5

Lumenox: Aaru's Awakening
Boo! They've taken down the alpha version.

Maere: When Lights Die
Was umming and arriing a little about whether to actually play this or not. Despite liking some games in the genre, I don't get on well with defenceless horror games. I wish I could say this is due to 'all the demons I have to face in my like normal life man,' but the truth is that I am just a coward. But anyway, I did man up and play this and glad I did although I will never play it again and hell sure that I will never play it with an oculus rift. I can't really say much without spoiling the encounters you'll have in this game, but I can confirm it is a lot more interesting than the ocean of Slender clones out there and worth checking if you are a horror fan.
4/5

Megabyte Punch
I really wish I liked this one. The initial concept of run around as a robot, punch other robots and steal their arms to add to your arm collection (and in turn your shoulder) sounds awesome. But MP ended up being riddled with issues that got in the way of any enjoyment, the combat isn't rewarding at all, the levels are super repetitive and the UI (in a game where it is important to be able to modify your bot on the fly) is comically rubbish. Very disappointing.
2/5

MTB Freeride
Took a while to get used to. There are many BMX biker corpses littering the mountainside as I failed to make some of the most basic jumps. But once I got the hang of it this is a really enjoyable thrill ride with a great sense of speed and freedom. I dunno what the plans with this are, but it could really do with being expanded into a full game. Hell, this game with multiplayer would be pretty special.
4/5

Outer Wilds
Thoroughly enjoyed this one. You get 20 minutes to fly around this galaxy and all its odd planets before the sun goes super nova. Although in a Majora's Mask style you do retain knowledge and a few bonuses which allow you to push your ship further and further each time. What I really liked about this one is the sense of expanse, there are no loading screens anywhere allowing you to fly in and out of planets atmospheres and freely get out of your ship in space. Highly recommended.
5/5

Reef Shot
Misguided. After the initial disappointment after learning that the ‘shot’ in the title means with a camera I did find this game fun in a relaxing ambient style of way. But that sadly didn’t last long. The problem with Reef Shot is it is constantly hurrying you along a very liner path with time constraints of ever depleting oxygen and there is little skill or craft in taking the photos other than making sure the fish are in frame. If this game had a greater focus on open world exploration or better photography systems then it could have been something, sadly it has nether. Although I do like the fact that you get ‘stars’ for good photos which you can trade for boosts like refilling your oxygen. It makes me very aware that although the seas may display a vibe of calm relaxation, the world of Reef Shot is set in a horrific future where you have to trade photos for oxygen or your cruel masters leave you down to suffocate under the waves.
1/5

Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages
No demo as of yet. Hopefully I’ll try to redo this one if it gets a demo before the end of the month.
-/5

Ripple Dot Zero
The very definition of a throw away platformer. Everything works solidly but the game lacks any form of hook or gimmick to make it anything more than a glorified collect-a-thon with fairly rudimentary platforming and enemy punching. The one area this really stands out is the absolutely fantastic soundtrack. The 80s synth rock beats that go with ever level are fairly glorious and well worth chugging through the gameplay for.
3/5

Rotational
Enjoyable in a fairly limited capacity. Initial concept is good although a combination of slightly lacking visual and music means it doesn’t quite have the mania addictiveness that it needs and the Super Hexagon possesses. Well worth having a quick go on though.

10 to go.

Ah, so in october they'll make the list for next years voting? But looking at the entrants list of the 2013 voting here:

..makes me itch to go through it completely and see what stuff I can dig up I havent heard about yet.

My head is gonna explode looking at the current upcoming list. I can't afford to get all the games I'm interested in even with the indie pricing. Amazing stuff.

This one looks really interesting:

Alone in the Park - PC, Mac and iOS
KABph_VKTWmn3yqbwMiQ_photo+%282%29_450.jpg

Alone in the Park is an adventure game in which the events are conveyed via a textual narration instead of animations. So it's very much like a text adventure, but the player interacts with the game via a graphical interface, negotiating a map and static scenes.

The game world is inspired by the surreal yet prosaic world of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, in the way it satirises everyday contemporary archetypes as well as the very idea of fantasy and adventure itself.

Well, this is what I do when I have time at the end of the year: I skim through the thumbnails and whenever I see a cool picture, I check the video and the website, and if there is an alpha, I try it. It is exactly like Greenlight.

That's exactly what I do every week, well almost, for #SS, with an exception for some dickheads posting their personal photos with the hashtag.

I just grabbed it and played a few stages, it's great so far- hard, but feels doable. Lots of focuses on dodging and counter attacks, lots of flying around in the air kicking people's faces off.

hmm Toma, any comments on the latest IGS game?

I had lots of fun with the Survivor squad demo, but others reported that it had a rather dragging endgame. For 1$ I'd definitely recommend it.

Also, would anyone try the MP of Survivor Squad with me?

Can't right now, but I'll be online later tonight.
