Damn, I created a thread for it, but considering I just played that game for another 3-4 hours in a row, here is another shoutout for Factorio:
Thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=527028

This is my current factory. To the left walled in turrets because most enemy attacks come from that direction. Still on the left side the power generators and attached water pumps. The conveyor belt around my factory is filled with ammunition for the stationed turrets. Other than that, there are 3 mine spots for resources (iron, copper, coal) and a huge research facility in the middle of the picture with 10 buildings.

I LOVE this game.

Sorry if I was away for a bit but this thread proved to be a bit dangerous for me. Just wanted to punch in to say that I'll finally get to my self imposed assignment of playing a bit of Factorio this weekend and I got on the Alpha for Door Kickers a top down tactical Swat Team sim game à la Frozen Synapse (TOMA!!!!!! FROZEN SYNAPSE!!!!!) that you can pre-order HERE.

No, YOU are dangerous to my wallet :p
Speaking of which, I wanted to reply with "BOUGHT!", buuuut.... any chance I could ask you to grab that Early Bird Special tier for me and I'll transfer the funds to you via Paypal? Is that even giftable? No credit card here, so I am a bit out of luck.

Have fun with Factorio. Such a fucking awesome game. I am now... 10 hours in or so? Still blows my mind how things work and I am maybe 1/3 through the research/tech tree in my freeplay run. Soooo awesome.

Ah well, Corto was an awesome person to help me out yesterday and I managed to check it out anyway.

Still funny coincidence.

Dammit, I needed money for this weekend, but now I have just brought Door Kicker. I sorta enjoyed Frozen Synapses, but Door Kicker looks like everything I wanted that game to be. Look forward to bopping around with that alpha a bit. Randomly, I still have a copy of steam Frozen Synapses which I've been sitting on for an age. If anyone wants it just shoot me a PM with your steam name and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Also, everyone who cares probably knows by now, but Anodyne is now on steam. Their was a post on the Desura page saying we will get codes soon-ish.

Door Kickers is not terribly deep, but fun. I still prefer Frozen Synapse vastly though, because it offers way more depth and preciseness to anything you do. I'll include Door Kickers in next months thread.

Probably random, but I just wanted to congratulate and thank Toma for such an awesome work here with the indie thread. I have a strong feeling that the monthly vote-tally-recap thing is going to be an awesome thing for those with less free time, including me.

Thanks, Toma. You and SalsaShark are truly fighting the good fight.

Another one who wants to thank Toma for this thread.

A lot of games out there I probably never would have heard off if not for Toma.

I just got Factorio (awesome game - try it) and there's a lot on the list Im interested it

Here's hoping we can abuse Toma's kindness for a long time. :D

These threads are dangerous for my wallet.
I know that problem, especially since I try to give fair recommendations. I think I bought every game in the OP. Someone should pay me for this :p

Trying to think of an art game I actually hated, but not coming to mind right now. The artiest game I have played yet has been Tale of Tales' most recent game Bientot l'ete.
jJLZNVYvBduKy.jpg

Giant Bomb even did a quick look. Took me 5-6 hours. Abstract as all fuck. While I didn't get much out of it emotionally compared to The Path, figuring out what went wrong in the relationship in this holodeck beach setting and trying to figure out the gameplay loop in itself was intriguing. The "poetry of the waves" effect is really unique.

Mix Facade, Solaris, and French new wave (even though I've never seen one of those movies) and you can get sort of an idea what it's going for. There's a last item you collect, and it does have an "ending", that might put perspective as to what happened to match up the abstract clues.

If nothing else, the visuals will give you something to gawk over.

i7COQvZoVTZEp.gif

Thanks to a Steam sale, I was finally able to pick it up and I'm enchanted by what I saw.

Bientot l'ete is not a great game, not because it's not exceptional piece of work, it's simply not a game. There's a certain attitude the player has to adopt to get anything out of it, and most importantly there's no point in treating it as a game with its usual illusional antics. The interaction comes not from thoughtlessly repeated actions, but from trying to understand the nature of human relationships.

Even though I've never read any of Marguerite Duras' works, those wavy phrases resonate with me deeply, because they're as universal as feelings we deal with all the time in our lives, they're reflections of our inner longings and fears; in this virtual simulation of life gaining experiences, represented by a scraps of childhood memories of a beach divided by a mirrored like wall, we learn how to break it, how to make our voice to be heard on the other side, which happens in the cafe in the multiplayer part of the ''story''.

It's not as hermetic and unapproachable as some would like it to be, actually it's pretty straightforward, it only needs a little bit of a commitment and curiosity, just like in a physical world.

Awesome stuff, I also started it a couple of days ago, going to be an interesting experience.
More people should get in on it.

Well, I cant see it being that interesting yet :p But we'll see!

Quick reminder that we'll start on voting for the top 5 games (only the from the ones mentioned in the OP) this month starting tomorrow :) The thread is already full enough, I'll put every game that has been mentioned and is not yet in the thread into the april OT (which gives them more exposure anyway)

Well then, I suppose I'd better get on with trying out more games from the OP then :) I think I've only played about 3-4 of them so far. Time to delve in further!

That would be perfect ;) Most games are relatively short anyway. I think I a leafy have my top5 set.

Toma, will Super House of Dead Ninja be included in the list? It was released last February, I think, so I guess that disqualifies it? If it's included, I already got my top 5 of the month. :)

Additionally, Intrusion 2 is 66% off right now on steam, making it 2.67€ (probably 2.67$ as well). As mentioned before (I'm almost sure I learned about it in this thread or SalsaShark's), it's a pretty awesome Contra-like with a sort of physics engine. I played through the entire demo and gameplay is quite better than it seems:

You can ride a giant wolf and shoot a railgun at the same time. A GIANT WOLF. Also ride mechas. Some pics:

Whoa, first time hearing of this. This game looks badASS. Thank god for demos! I don't have the money on my card to mess with after all the other crap I picked up on sale, and I've gotta get my hands on this.

Not for this month, but I have no problem including 2012 games in these threads either, so I'll put Intrusion and SHODN into the april thread, where they'll get more exposure and are then open vor votes. I wont add any more games to the march thread, meaning the games to be voted on are already final.

I decided against adding new ones at this point, because most people arent looking at the OP right now anymore anyway, so that the next thread will give them more exposure. In general I am fine adding any Indie game into these threads however, that came out in 2012 or 2013 and have not been added in any of the (currently unavailable) previous threads. I want to make these threads the culmination of 2012 and 2013 Indie-nes.

Any gaf hype for the upcoming Sang-Froid? As a huge fan of orcs must die, this one looks pretty great. I found this video that explains pretty well what it is:

Not yet. People seem to be interested but I found the presentation and gameplay mechanis not all that appealing so far. Although the movement by these hook lines was a cool touch. I am still a bit wary about that game.

There's one game that certainly will top the list, so I won't vote for it.

Oh, and what have you decided to do with the upcoming games' list - the same like with every other mentioned title?

Yeah, the ziplines were pretty cool. I also loved the way wolves circled the bonfires. :)

Yep, its just getting out of hand otherwise I think. Most people arent even checking this thread, so imagine what happens if the "coming soon" list gets even longer. I think the idea of having the spotlight on the (still rather sizeable) collection of games each month works well enough. Besides, old threads arent dead, and I will link them in the next threads to make sure people check them out since they still contain lots of lovely games and recommendations.

Random aside: Big Toma Indie Games information/ link drop incoming. Plus my screenshot saturday posts.

Have been following it on and off since it hit Greenlight. I have always wanted to play a French-Canadian werewolf-slaying lumber jack, and this does seem like an interesting concept.
It's a game 'm sure I'd suck at, but would love to try.

Where do you find the time to check all those games, respect.

Haven't you thought about puting up some blog/site to give them more exposure?

For what its worth, the OP is basically my blog :p
Besides I think that the thread format works better for these kind of lists since its easier to arrange a nicely viewable list. Indiegames.com has basically every Indie Game of note, but its harder to keep track of since the blog format is not all that clearly arranged. In the end, "my" blog would just contain talk/posts about Games that the big/cooperative Indie Blogs are talking about anyway (like Indiegames.com), so I dont really feel like there is a need for it.

Oh and I havent checked out most of these games I will post in the thread (other than "they look interesting" maybe), but I might check them out properly later. It also helps to keep track of them and give you guys some hints what other games people might play. I am basically just throwing games at the wall and hope something sticks (with you or me). If I like a game enough myself, I'll make a proper impression post and then put it in the OP, if not maybe someone else does so I can put it in the OP :)
I do however try to play all the stuff that I put in the OP.

Toma

Lets start with something smaller:

Only Forward
onlyforward.png

http://jonathanwhiting.com/blog/?p=6

Free game, Ludum Dare game concept. Pretty small game but I still spent a few minutes playing a few levels, so it cant be that bad ;) Its basically a take on the Pacman formula, in which you need to collect people and guide them to the exit by taking into accountthe movement patterns of the ghosts. This could be quite fun if it had leaderboards and custom level creation.

Toma

Bloomfairy
http://www.purplescape.com/bloomfairy

Free demo, 5$ purchase. Some type of action game which starts you off by finishing levels in which you grow seeds to plants by "activating" them, which is really nice to look at thanks to the lovely pixelart and animations. You then earn points, with which you can buy over 350 seeds to plant in your own garden.

Toma

Upcoming Marble Madness type game called InFlux:
http://www.impromptugames.com/

You are a ball and solve environmental puzzles. Doesnt sound too exciting in theory, but they didnt go for "levels" in this game, but instead went for a semi-open world approach in which you explore the world and solve the mysteries. Really cool touch. Also, the game looks damn good and varied. Check the videos on their website.

Toma

Order of Twilight:
http://stabyourself.net/orderoftwilight/

Another 2D puzzle platformer with an interesting twist. You need to "cast" your actions with the arrow keys. It starts out fairly simple but gets rapidly more interesting. Really nice idea, although it could use some more polish for some more intricate and more interesting levels. Its free and still fun though! Worth a try. (Yes, I actually played the game :p)

OK, I'm slightly confused about the vote procedure.
1) Is the list in the OP the list of eligible games? It contain several upcoming games, which, by virtue of not having anything playable yet, don't seem like they could be voted for.
2) Where should we post our votes? Here? New thread? I'm asking because if I remember correctly, you mentioned voting would be done during the last week of March, which we're already into.

Sorry if I'm asking about obvieties, I just want to have everything perfectly clear. :)

Haha, dont worry, I was planning to put up a voting procedure tomorrow (Because the last week of march starts tomorrow :p). But to answer your questions:

1. Only the games in post 1 and 2 (aka the released games).
2. We'll post here, I'll tally it up and make it a nice list for newcomers in the april thread :)
