Fuck, beat me to it! If you back at even $10, you get instant access to the alpha!

Slowpoke.

Repost for the new page:

Secrets of Raetikon Alpha can be purchased by backing the just released Indiegogo campaign:

Just noticed that the Spark Rising Kickstarter has a week left in it, and it looks like it's gonna be a close call. I generally have a rule against voxel games, but I like the twist they're putting on it. They've added alpha access to all $10+ pledge tiers which'll probably be out within the next few months, if that helps sway anyone's decision.

Is Great Permutator any good? It's the new IGS feature. Getting a SpaceChem vibe (and no I haven't played SpaceChem yet)

Dude!

*points at avatar*

We need to talk about your Indie thread posting privileges.
;)

Great Permutator is less grand, but comparable to the SpaceChem style of game and a very good puzzle game too. Its less flashy, but the puzzle gameplay is still very solid and def. recommended in addition to SpaceChem.

We featured it in april in the indie threads:

indirect_2012-12-11_22-49-40-93.png

SpaceChem Lite. You have boxes on top of the screen and need to transport them to the bottom by using several machines at your disposal. There is a free demo, and I think I'll buy this eventually. Its not as exhaustive as Factorio or SpaceChem, but still seems to be a pretty well done puzzle version of this gameplay style. A game that seemingly got downrated for being too hard. Try the demo!

Really easy recommendation for $1.

Edit: Any particular reason you didnt look into SpaceChem yet?

So I was reading through the Space Engineers Steam forums and it looks like the devs are deleting most threads and posts criticizing the game. This type of behavior is usually a red flag for me. They also put up their own strict "rules" on what can be posted there, I remember some trainwreck of a game (edit: The WarZ, now renamed to Infestation) did that before and Valve ended up stepping in. Anyway, something to keep in mind if you are thinking about the game.

Surprise, surprise.

Guys, be careful about Space Engineers, I'd still very wary about it because it simply doesnt look "fun" albeit impressive.

I was sort of expecting such an outcome.

I played through The Screecher mod that got patched into Don't Starve today, it was pretty good and worth a playthrough if you have the game. It is also a great example of how complex mods can be for the game as it plays nothing like the main game at all. Hopefully this will step up the creativity level of mods people are creating!

Just read toddhunter's impressions of it over on SteamGAF, I'm definitely going to check it out.

Sounds like the whole Garry's Incident fiasco from a few days ago, too. Definitely a big warning sign.

New Incognita update
Two new features were added this update to help bring the players planning to a higher level than previous. They cut down on the times when enemy will catch you in situations you really could not have prepared for. Tiles that can be seen by the enemy are now shown in red. As well, the paths that guards are patrolling on are displayed as white arrows.

Guards become both more dangerous yet less lethal with their new "Arrest Mode". They will approach your agents and knock them out while protecting their own butts with overwatch. Teamwork will be important for the player.

Programs add new options for the player in Mainframe mode. These abilities will offer new ways to spend credits and CPUs. The first available is Ping. It lets the player create a distracting noise around the map.

Floating text common to old school tactics RPGs now spell things out like when action points are used and when CPUs are gained or spent. You can also see more easily when critical hits are scored.

That sucks big time! I really dislike companies who pull this shit.
Bought it on release and content aside, it's really great for what it is. I think the potential of this is extremely promising.

Kind of strange since the dev team did Miner Wars and through the whole game's dev cycle they were constantly engaging with the community at their own forums. Wonder what changed.

Looking at the rules itself, it's mostly just 'don't be a dick to others & don't speak russian'.
Still kinda weird to try and impose the ruleset and ultimately will backfire as deletion is too synonymous with censorship even when used in the trenches that is the steam forum.

They invite constructive criticism that's written in a polite manner. Sadly the steam forum can mostly just do criticism in a non constructive and lew manner. That's just asking for trouble.

Welcome to the Discussion section of Space Engineers. To promote a positive atmosphere and keep this community “clean” and constructive we must insist that you conduct yourself in a civilized manner at all times when participating in any facet of the community.

Apart from the standard Steam Community Discussion Rules, which are in effect in this community as well and we strongly recommend you to read before making any post, we have added a few more guidelines which you should take in consideration as well.

Discussion Rules
Posts must be made in English, any threads or posts that are posted in a language other than English will be removed.
Piracy! All messages that include linking, mentioning or promoting piracy will be deleted immediately!
Spamming and Advertising are not permitted. Posts that include links with the purpose of promoting other products or selling items (gold) will be immediately deleted!
Any kind of violence, abuse, vulgarity, bad language, calling names or pornography is not accepted and messages will be deleted immediately.
You should not at any time openly argue with the forum moderators or administrators about imposing rules.
You may not at any time attack Keen Software House or insult any Keen Software House employee.
You may not at any time impersonate any Keen Software House employee or staff on this forum.
Respect other user's opinions. Don’t criticize or deride what other members believe about the game.
Try to keep all messages in a constructive and polite manner. Posts that don’t include any arguments neither provide any suggestion on how the game can be improved will be considered as spam and will be deleted. For more information of what is Feedback and Constructive Criticism, please read below.

Feedback and Constructive Criticism
We invite you to post your feedback, either negative or positive. Without this we won’t be able to improve the game and resolve any problems/bugs. Try to be as more constructive as possible by providing reasons why you like or don’t like something in the game and what can be done to make it better.

If you have any suggestions/ideas please share them here: http://forums.keenswh.com/?forum=313735 or here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/244850/discussions/2/.

Hey, does any of you know of a good solution to play indie games on a handheld?

I guess the Vita has a decent library, but are there any good open alternatives?

That seems pretty reasonable. So the devs aren't shady, after all?

Well not saying that as just taking a quick glance at the forums, people seem to complain about the removal of topics. From what I can gather though, the topics that was removed was due to people complaining about Miner Wars & general spam of 'Early access' (ala SpaceBase DF-9 complaints) and nothing really with Space Engineers.

Also it's to note that the devs don't actually close topics, steam mods are doing it.

So Long story short, don't think it's fair to compare them to War Z yet :p
(Even though I know they weren't. The situation was likened to the whole debacle)

I was on a Don't starve fast so that I can work on other games' backlog and jump back into Don't Starve on PS4 but I'm going to have to look at this now :)

Some more info from the forum

And then we find something like this Link which a guy posted showing that hsi post was removed from this thread Link

Kind of disheartening to see as clearly the guy was not 'trolling' or at least not being negative just for the sake of being a dick.

Btw just to clarify; Only reason I'm looking into this more than any person should is because I've been pretty hyped for this game and has been pimping it around here. So I do feel I have some level of responsibility as

Having to submit information for CRB checks today - could take up to 6 WEEKS before my conditional job offer is confirmed..

Fuck. That's way longer than I'd anticipated.

I suppose that's a whole lot of indie games I could play...

Yeah, this is a huge level of retardedness on their side.

Yeah that guy's post was pretty reasonable, definitely not trolling. The other guidelines they set seemed okay, but deleting stuff like this does not put them in a good light

Yeah. I think they got the message as I've seen they just lock the spammy shit now and ain't deleting anything.

Really sad as the core functions of the game seems to be really decent and depending on the update structure, could end up being something special (Dev spoke of FTL meets Shattered Horizon down the line with procedural story telling etc).

Oh well, back to finding the next big thing to hype myself up on :/

Ah, Shattered Horizon. Your moment in the sun was all but too brief.

And here we are, on the eve of another Call of Duty and Battlefield, where evolution is measured in dogs.

Shattered Horizon is THE best multiplayer FPS I've played in the past... 5 years? Maybe more.

Especially vanilla SH - one gun was all you needed. In age where we need 50 weapons that are all pretty similar, endless customisation options, hats, costumes, perks and upgrades Shattered Horizon remains a landmark in simple game design.

I hate everyone who didn't buy it. Literal, seething hate.

Toma why?!

FPS... Multiplayer... I am not particularly fond of either, unless MP is for Fifa, MP is turn based or if the FPS has a really good setting other elements that makes it stand out from most FPS (Bioshock, thinking of getting KZ for PS4 on launch). I cant stand TF2 either if that is any consolation :p

I've never heard of this game before.

I'll let you off but only this once. But other people who didn't buy it will still get a right earful! I'm not about to go soft!

I don't mind FPS games, just not generic shooters. Games like SCALE, Portal, Inverto, even FEAR (awesome slo mo and enemy AI) are cool

But I really, if ever, play multiplayer in anything. Only games that I devoted any time to MP were Assassins Creed, Max Payne 3, and GTA V. I do plan to get more into Frozen Synapse multiplayer, but I need to get better at just playing in general

The Cornerstone devs released a free pre-alpha build on Desura. Probably the same as the other demo, but try it if you haven't. For such an early stage, I found it quite fun and open-ended. Game has a lot of promise

I didn't spend much time with Shattered Horizon but the little I did, loved it. I kinda hope that Cloud Imperium takes a few notes from it for Star Citizen for their FPS combat if they have any zero gravity combat planned.

Then come at me. I'm not going to buy a MP-only FPS that I'm never going to play, no matter how awesome it looks. Colossal waste of money to do so.

You can play single player with bots! It's just draining to see Battlefield 20, Call of Duty dog wars be so popular because they pander to the lowest common denominator.

Shattered Horizon is worth a few bob during the next Steam sale, as it has bots and is absolutely gorgeous. It was a bit of a victim of tying itself to things - Vista at the time, DirectX 10, dual core GPUs - laughable now, sure...

Ahead of its time, and certainly befitting of this thread regarding greatness gone relatively unnoticed.

Edit: Atta lad, Moobs. On the same page.

If it drops to £3 or so in the Steam sale people should absolutely give it a shot. Even if only for a couple of hours.

Indeed, Moobs.

Oh, quick How To Survive impressions. I really dig it! Only played about an hour and a half, but it's a solid little package. Really enjoying the crafting aspect - which seems a lot deeper than you might give it credit for - and the combat is simple, but effective and satisfying.

Rather taken by the bow.

Thought I was all zombied out, but this is just different enough to enjoy as an arcade adventure with a bit more in the ballast than many might expect. Can't wait to start crafting a few more firearms - only created a pistol thus far.

Anyway, my take. Thumbs up, cheap as chips, good fun. Pretty much all set for the rest of the year with X Rebirth preordered and Broken Sword V an autobuy.
