Infamous banned gaffers

It would be nice if you could somehow tell whether a member was temporarily banned or perma banned.
I like how the name of whoever is banned becomes grey, but it would be convenient if a perma banned person's name became black instead so you could tell the difference or something...

Shut in nerd? I know for a fact Himuro is more active and is more sexually active than most GAFers. He was upset with her because of her constant attention demanding behavior, passive aggressive posts, and never ending victim mentality - and all the "shut-ins" who rushed to her defense 24/7.

Defending her wasn't going to get you laid. It was quite clear that she was mentally unstable, was not taking her meds, and loved the attention she received. Himuro called her out on it and GAF erupted in an avalanche of white knighting.

I get along well with Himuro on the occasions I've talked to him, and I think you're right to point out that his post isn't indictive of him being psychotic or emotionally unstable or deeply misogynist the way people are describing him. He's a friendly, enthusiastic, funny guy and very passionate about things. I'm sure he'd admit that sometimes his passion governs him a little too much, which you can see in his religious evolution over the last few years. I like him, and he's a good guy.

But his posts in that thread were pretty clearly an account suicide, particularly the second post. And it was his 19th ban, at least 6 or 7 priors for getting angry and insulting people he didn't like. And he was permed prior to that over some other thing and got unpermed after he asked to be let back in. So there was really no other way the situation was going to go down. I actually have no idea who Koshiba is, mind you. That kind of post would have been bannable no matter who it was saying it to no matter who they were saying it to. Even accepting your stipulation that she was a problem poster who had these kind of attention-seeking habits, and again I've never seen a post by her so I can't evaluate that, there's a lot nicer ways of saying it than totally losing your shit like that. This isn't some recent PC-brigade nanny state moderation either, that kind of thing got people whacked from the very beginning on GAF.

I know he was tired of GAF. I know he registered for SA and wherever else afterwards. Good for him if he thinks they're a better fit for him. Like I've said before, every forum has sort of a different size and culture and what works for some people doesn't work as well for others. I posted on SA for 6 or 7 years before coming to GAF. Now I don't really post on SA anymore because GAF is a better fit for me. People doing the reverse wouldn't surprise me at all.
 
So I have a question: What happens to permabanned gaffers that use a friends account? If they let themselves known who they really are, does the friends account then get permabanned as well?

"Each accepted member is granted one, and only one, username. If you are caught using multiple usernames, you will be subject to immediate and permanent banning of all accounts involved."

It's "if you are caught using", not "if you are caught having". A member admitting to be permabanned is almost certainly going to get the account they're using banned, with the quid pro quo that again in some cases people ask to be given a second chance after a long period of time and are allowed one... or in some cases you get a situation like someone getting banned as a junior in 2005 and re-regging in 2010 and that's not really something we care about.

Oh I'm not questioning his ban. You're right, he was clearly angling for a ban and deserved it - although perhaps because he was a long standing member who contributed so much to the forum, I must admit I hoped he could have gotten like a 6 month ban instead of a perma. He's not busted up over the ban though, and is having a good time at that other place.

My problem is more with the revisionist history that labels Himuro of all people some type of mean, misogynist who bullied an innocent girl. She deserved to be called out, I just disagree with the way Himuro did it.
 
I wish himuro hadn't gone out in such a fashion, even though koshiba did kind of deserve to be called out. Oh well. As others have pointed out, he wanted to be banned.
 
Too bad about Blamespace, he was great.

I noticed he influenced a number of folks to start posting the way he did, though, which lead to an increase in threadshitting.

When SunhiLegend posts a legendary gif, it is a good sign that it's time to leave that thread. They almost always get locked soon after. He's like Bishoptl's Silver Surfer.

Himuro went a little nuts with that post, but Koshiba totally needed to be called out on her unhealthy attention whore behavior. She came off as having some serious mental issues and was unwilling to realize that she needed to change things in her life. A bunch of internet dudes white knighting over will not make her better.

Stumples can correct me if I am wrong on this, but I do not believe that there is a set policy on this issue of "We will allow a permabanned user to reregister in X amount of time." I remember one user came back after over a year of being permed, but that was particular to those circumstances and not something you can generalize to every situation.

Well, Himo was permed before that and we lifted it to give him another chance... He was super cool after that.. but for the simple fact that we made sure he got a second chance for his account because he was a long time member that we all remembered, so really there was no good reason to give him any less than a perm for his outburst..

A lot of people see it as how you said it. So its not like everyone is changing it. Even avoiding if she deserved it or not. I didn't recall seeing him post much prior and then eventually that happened. Seemed like he was making an exit either way, deciding to go out with a bang.
