inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

please define how it gets better so i have something to hold onto

well, once you gain the ability to hover, moving around the world becomes so much more fluid and fun, and it also opens up new ways for you to attack you enemies. It adds an element of verticallity to everything, making it more tactical in a sense

I keep trying to get into this game but can't. And I love open world games. Someone motivate me to continue playing (I just beat that part where you go through the dark sewers and restart the power). :(
Some of the later "levels" are enormous.
The ones to get through a new island are epic.
The enemies get bigger, much bigger.
You'll be able to grind on rails and cables.
You also get a shield.
The ending is worth it.

You also know there are story missions and side missions right ?
If you want to get through the story quicker, just avoid the non-story missions.

im currently at 98% completion with 349 shards..... jesus tapdancing christ how am i gonna find the last one o_O i think i sweeped the city pretty well :S

Thought I'd jump in and say I bought this when it came out and thought it was fucking awesome.

That is all.

I was like this at first, the graphics really turned me off and it gets off to a slow start but once I got into it, got more powers, starting running all over the city it became super addictive and one of my favorite games this gen. I will totally be picking up the sequel the day it comes out.

Like someone else said, if you're getting bored with it... set it down to easy. It's not going to affect any of your trophies unless you were trying to get the one where you play on Hard the whole way through. Give it some more time, get some more powers and if it still doesn't grab you then maybe it's just not your type of game.

But I'm glad I pulled this out of my backlog, it was the perfect game I was looking to play at the time.

I always beat all the side missions. The side missions generally weren't that well designed in this game.

Anyway, I beat inFAMOUS this morning. I played good side. Overall, I'd give it like a 7/10. Some neat ideas, but in the next iteration, they should implement some of the movement skills from Prototype. Getting around in this game, even with railroad grinding and electric wire grinding, was simply cumbersome especially when it came to climbing.

On that note, I still think in inFAMOUS 2 they'll have to find some balance, since the absolute best parts of the first game was the platforming up that giant junk heap and the Prison. Unfortunately, that's about it for special platforming in the game (the sewers were a joke) and I wished there was more setpieces in that sense. I went to the Historic District think I'd be getting some even bigger platforming ala junkyard heap and Prison Building, but it wasn't to be. It never materialized. The Historic District in general was boring and uninspired.

For inFAMOUS 2, I'd like them to drive even more personality into the city they make, really making each area more distinctive. Side missions could use some fleshing out and polishing. They're kinda lame.

And also, the good/evil thing is nice on paper but it was just really poorly implemented in this game. Probably the worst implementation I've ever seen. The evil decisions always made ZERO SENSE. Even in the context of Cole "ANTIHERO OR SAVIOR OF EMPIRE CITY", the evil decisions were just fucking ridiculous. Never once would I have ever had even one reason to choose an evil decision, with one exception (
trish or THE PEOPLE
).

Anyway, outside of that, I appreciate increase in difficulty, and the game was easy, but the Sons of Whatever just really took more hits and weren't any more interesting to fight. Even though I was gaining power, due to the enemies frequently taking even less damage to my arsenal the stronger I got (as soon as I got to a new part of the city, the damage vs. enemies basically was reset. Even at max melee, for example, the Sons of whatever-the-fuck took 5 melee punches, instead of 2 or 3 for the Reapers and Dustmen), I still felt like I was making little to no progress.

The main story missions were mostly really fun and I think the focus the game had on Cole's electric powers made for a more balanced and cohesive package than Prototype, but the game could borrow some things from that. For one, Cole should be able to hover cars or pick them up. Not just sonicwave them out of the way. And for two, running speed should be increased ten fold, like in Prototype. In Prototype you run so goddamn fast. It's so satisfying. inFAMOUS is the better game, but never be too big that you don't take good ideas from others.

Anyway, I'll probably keep my eye open for inFAMOUS 2, but I'm not a fan of the franchise yet. It's a decent start.

Where do I go from here?

Trying to get to the top of this crane to get the orb.

You're looking right where you're supposed to go in the second pic iirc. Its quite a difficult jump. The vertical bar on the left of the horizontal one.

Correct. You will have to stand on the tip of the vertical bar.

And to Midnight. Its definitely worth picking up. One of the best open world games of last year.

As to platinum, make sure you write down how many shards you have whenever you move to a new island. And do the stunts as you go, not after the whole game is over as there are not enough enemies to go around.

Right, I've got all the shards and every other trophy other than 2. I've done the story and need to get more XP to fully upgrade all my evil powers on my hard run. Where is a good place to grind for XP? I'm so close to the plat I can smell it.

Just defeated Sasha. I liked the use of surround sound for her voice but the battle itself wasn't very good.

I wish their was a way to check my stats. There are so many things to collect and trophies to grind and not knowing how far along I am is frustrating.

Your save files will have some stats on it.

Don't get me wrong, but I'm honestly curious in why a easy or hard platinum matters.
OCD.

Finally bought this last week because I didn't have a PS3 when it released, and WOW.

WOW.

I love this game so far. The platforming, traversal, and shooting all feel so great. The general ideas of a hero with electric powers are just very well thought out as well. Most of all, it's just fun to play. The traversal is slick and fast. I regret not getting it sooner.

Awesome. Just wait until you gain the hover ability!!! Makes a great game with great traversal and electric abilities even better.

I'm not really liking this all that much... weird because I love Sucker Punch to death. I'll give it a few more hours though. I just don't like the combat.

Just finished the game up today. I chose to go the good route. Overall my opinion hasn't changed since I first tried the game a year ago.

Combat is merely ok. I like the upgrade tree and powers such as the sticky grenade and precision shot. But enemies are way to accurate and become annoying very quickly. Bosses are hit or miss. Sasha was a dull fight. While Aldin's massive junk form on the bridge was a lot of fun.

Platforming was solid but there wasn't enough. Sly remains my favorite Sucker Punch game because of it's amazing platforming sections. Infamous didn't really have any set piece moments beyond the underground sections and the tower. They were ok but weren't very challenging. The sequel needs more.

Story is the most disappointing of all.
The narrative didn't go anywhere till the end of the game. I had no connection to Trish and didn't care that she died. Zeke was the most annoying stupid bastard in along time. It's a shame I couldn't kill him, and his betrayal just made me hate him more. Bosses were devoid of any build up. What happened to Sasha or Moya? Worst was the conclusion. Kessler is you from the future.....really? Sucker Punch throws in time travel without any explanation. Stupid. It can be forgiven if all this stuff is explained well in the sequel.

Graphics were fine. Cole was well animated and the city had plenty of detail. Lighting effects were impressive.

Sound was disappointing. Sasha's voice and the underground segments featured great use of surround while everything else was average. I didn't even notice the soundtrack. It was mixed so low and there wasn't any option to increase the volume.

So overall an average game in my opinion that's a 7/10. However I do look forward to the inevitable followup.

The ONLY thing I didn't like about inFAMOUS was Zeke. He is the worst-designed character in years, and possibly the most annoying sidekick in the history of games this gen for me. I wanted to fry him sooooo badly.

Everything else was spot-on fun, though.

Zeke is so bad he's almost good. :lol

Anyway... put more time into the game and I'm liking it much more. Enough even to maybe try to get the platinum.

Pretty much every character in the game is like that. On my first playthrough of the game I was actually glad when
the girlfriend was killed
.

I had a blast with the game. Sandbox + superpowers + platforming = Win! The story and characters though were just awful.

I just picked it up at the new price point. I'll probably post my impressions here and there as I'm playing it.

Infamous was pretty cool, but they should have activated the lifts after you beat the boss on the tower, as it was pretty painful to get up there if you wanted to have a nice view of the city.

I just beat the game and I just had to say that I thought the moment to moment gameplay when you're using your electricity powers was just pure fun. I played this game a lot in between other games, and it was always a blast. As a whole package and I think pacing wise it falls a little short of my favorites this generation though. I think I took a lot breaks from this game to make up for the lack of pacing because it was just seemed like one nonstop rollercoaster of gameplay. The story was kind of irrelevant to me although the ending was pretty good, but I guess the overall picture is decent. Graphically I liked what they did with the game. It's rough around the edges, but in terms of lighting and color I think they did a good job. The way they did the missions was great too. They were well varied, and I never felt like there were too many of them.

i've just got to the last island, and about 46%

game is awesome so far, there was a period near the start where i was getting a bit bored ... but you get hover ...and right there is when alot of variation starts coming in the missions, and i'm pretty much sticking to the main line missions so far.

really impressed, enjoying it far more than gow3 anyways

Played through the game as evil, and kind of want to pick it up again for a normal play through. I may just wait until we get closer to infamous 2 however.

so glad to read the lttp positive impressions, inFamous is truly something special if only for the perfect controls that make the game FUN. Everyone should give it a chance, the game starts kinda slow but as soon as you gain/upgrade abilities it turns into pure awesomeness. Had KZ2 & U2 not been released last year inFamous would have been my GOTY 2009, I guess I'm replaying it this summer.

Good idea, really enjoyable game to just run through. Might pop it back in once I'm done with 3D Dot Game Heroes.

just beat the game, as pure evil. muhaha

prob harder to finish as good? as splash damage would surely cost you karma points in battles.

but hell what an awesome, AWEsome game.

not sure i'm gonna play through again on good as i have to get started on reddead, but i might finish off as many side missions as i can.

can't wait for infamous 2 .. hell ... would love a movie. as weird as this sounds when i was a kid i always wanted to be some eletricity powered super dude, like that jonney B guy from the misfits of science. ha. this game was pure wish fulfillment

i think the key is getting hover, the missions ger seriously vertical. BUT .. at the same time SP really mix up the mission types .. just playing the main mission thread and a few sides it really picks up. love it

not that this will come as a surprise for anyone
teaser image in portugal's officla playstation mag

The magazine ends with a picture showing the eyes of the first game’s protagonist Cole MacGrath and the following words underneath: “The announcement of a great PlayStation 3 exclusive sequel in the next ROPS.”

no linky cuz of scan

Just completed the game. Must say that it's a great game, looking forward to the soon to be announced sequel ( I hope ).

I'm curious about the games budget though. The campaign was quite short and the city didn't seem very big, and the lack of any real cutscenes makes me think that the developer had a pretty limited budget. Dunno if that's accurate?

They have less than 50 people working for 3 years, probably not enough for such a massive open-world game but Sucker Punch probably didn't want to risk the overhead of a bigger team.

So, it is possible to have a 100% game?. I played both playthroughs (evil and good) collecting and doing EVERYTHING on both.

Still 92% on my evil one. =(
My Good file (second playthrough) reads 100%. I did all side missions and picked up all shards on my Evil run, then just rushed through the story on my Good/Hard run, and there it is. Did you play on Hard? Do you have the Platinum?
