inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Someone pointed out that the unwritten law about playing good or evil is to always play good first, since evil will inevitably be more fun and will make playing good afterwards difficult. I agree with this statement. Playing good, I'm constantly worrying about collateral damage and won't even use the Thunder Drop just because there's too much of a risk hurting civilians and I refuse to bioleech ANYONE, even enemies.

I can't wait to play this on evil so that I can just destroy everyone and everything to hell

Friday.

My Play.com order shipped today, might actually have it on release from them for once!
Ah ok, thanks for the info! :) Is that the day for all over Europe by the way? For example, if i remember correctly, Killzone 2 was released 2 days later or so in the UK compared to some other european countries.

The store that i bought my copy of inFAMOUS in didnt have the games set up in the shelfs though, so i had to ask if they had the game. But i called the store's support before i went to buy the game, and the guy at the support told me that today was the release day for inFAMOUS and that the store had 8 copies in stock. Since the game wasnt set up in the shelf, maybe the guy at support missunderstood something? Or maybe the store "just" got the game into their stock and that they hadnt taken the time to put the games on the shelf? I dont know.

Some other online stores in my country does however list the 29th of May as the release date for inFAMOUS though, but a guy on a gaming forum i use to visit sometimes said it was going to be released on the 27th of May. It was from him that i first read that inFAMOUS would be released today (on the 27th of May) in Europe, or at least in my country. I thought myself that the game was going to be released on the 29th of May where i live :)

It doesnt matter too much though, but i just got abit confused about if the official release date for inFAMOUS in Europe is on the 27th of May or on the 29th of May since i have read that both days are the release date, so i just wanted to ask which release date that is the official because i am curious :)

And i hope that you get your copy of inFAMOUS already tomorrow by the way :)

EDIT: I added some text.

Listen man, I dont have a problem with critisicm of a game but I'm getting tired of people trying to paint a consensus on "sony fanboys" the last couple of months. People jumped on you and that other guy because you said some dumb shit, not because you criticized a game. You pretty much implied that you wish you didnt have to buy ANY game on the PS3 even though you own one. That is a dumb thing to say period. The other guy said this game looks last gen. Go into a 360 exclusive thread and say that, see what people say. Look how many people here are comparing this negatively to Crackdown, and hardly any "fanboy" said anything (graphically and gameplay wise). Now go in a halo thread and bring up Killzone, see what happens, or a GeoW thread and bring up Uncharted's lighting and shadowing and see what happens.
I didn't say any "dumb shit". You are much more concerned with gaming wars than I am as the rest of your post consists of fighting over console superiority.

I own all three consoles. I prefer XBOX 360 over the other two consoles for many reasons. I rarely play the Wii and the PS3. The two PS3 titles I have purchased are EXCLUSIVE titles to the console. They are both great games. If they have more EXCLUSIVE titles that attract me I purchase them. To this point the only one I admit to not having the chance to play is MGS4. I came in the thread with excitement over a game I was about to purchase...there is no read between the lines anywhere in that. Most of the people with problems are under 1k posts and just post here to get into wars...I don't. Hence again owning all the damn consoles for their unique games when they have them.

There are separate good, and evil side missions, as well as missions that offer karmic choices. Then there are missions like the train one that you just do and don't really have much of a good or bad pull....Well scratch that I guess thinking about it the train mission is good in nature :)
Your pretty much Moya's puppet early on a tleast which would explain having to do a good hearted mission being evil

Well as good cole you could see the train mission as him helping the city. As bad cole think of it as just attempting to find that one dude just so he can selfishly leave the city.

Man this sucks, I just got the game and there is no Uncharted 2 beta code inside, I'm very sad.

Man, that does suck :/

Maybe this has been discussed, sorry for my lazy ass not looking thru the thread, but I got 2 beta codes, one inside the box, and the other the GS guy gave me. The one inside the box is dated for June 3rd (I think) start time, and the other is for August 18th. So I take it beta will be next week during E3? :D

Speaking of the moral choices, I was a little disappointed in one of them.
The one in the sewer where you have to choose between frying the guy or telling him his wife died.
Does it make more sense if you're playing evil, because I can't help but think that
lying to him and telling him you saved his wife
would have been a more fitting evil choice.

I'm digging it as well. As I said before it feels like Bizarro Crackdown... My biggest problem with the game and many of the sandbox games is I feel very distant from the city I'm in. I wish they would start adding more interactive objects in the city even if the ultimate effect is simply a gag or something to play around with.

Exactly. It's the little things in open world games that make it feel real. I auume it's just a technical limitation.

I'm wondering this as well. I'm doing an Evil run, and I completed 2 missions that made me "slightly more Heroic." I don't want to be a Hero! I want to be INFAMOUS dammit! :D
That's weird because it wouldn't even let me choose the very first good side mission. I was a Thug after the first real story mission (
the food drop
) so I couldn't pick any of 'em. Fine by me though.

My favorite so far was right after you learn the
R1 downed attacks
.
These cops offer you a stack of shards if you heal their downed comrades. You can just walk over, steal the shards, then kill all the cops.

Yeah, I thought that one was a bit anti-climatic on the evil side.

Hm? Not sure I understand. Frying and lying are both bad.

GTA IV looked much better to me but that might be because I find Empire City so terrible looking to begin with. It's fucking hideous. Maybe it gets better when you get out of the Neon District. Still loving the game so far though, even the courier missions.
It's possibly not as cut and dry as my previous statement makes it out to be, but my reasoning is that GTAIV looks blurry. It's like it has good graphics underneath a smear of vaseline. inFamous is noticabley sharper looking and has very good art direction. The art direction isn't the same as GTAIV obviously, but it has its own unique look that fits the comic book universe they were going for.

Wait, Bioleeching enemies adds to your bad karma?
Yep, just like healing adds to your good. A good indication of what an action did is the color of the XP message. Blue adds good. Grey is neutral. Red is evil.

He's saying lying would have been a better option for the evil action. In that situation, you can only
good: tell the truth (his wife is dead) or evil: fry him.

By saying that one comment was unnecessary you are essentially. I made no comment that bashed anything and just expressed my honest opinion. That opinion is also shared by many people who take it to much larger levels which I do not.

Right, but
lying to him about his wife seems much more fitting with the story being told in that mission. Killing him just seems to come from nowhere, especially since Cole has already realized that the guy thinks he's protecting his dead wife.

Baker said:

I see. Lying would have been neat, especially if they do a small followup later like after the mission.
EDIT: I would imagine he'd ask for proof though no?

Picked this up last night and had a blast. I finished the first 11 or so story missions
I restored power to the entire first island
and got about 75% of the way to clearing out the first island. Found all the Dead Drops and a ton of blast shards.

The controls are really smooth - I'm impressed. The only problem I have was during that one train mission when
the Reapers are attacking the train and you have to drop down and recharge the panels before the trains moved again
, I kept getting that damn "magnetism" to nearby poles, when all I wanted to do was drop onto the street. It's a minor inconvenience and doesn't detract from the gameplay, but it's a pain at times.

Overall, very happy with it. I'm very glad I went straight for the defense upgrades though, because those damned Reapers like to swarm in some areas. I want to leave work right now and play :'(.

Seems like some need to re-download and install AFTER the game does its own install. Give that a try. It'll show up in your powers menu then mapped to D-pad right.

One thing that concerned me is that I have done a few missions, and I'm trying to play as good as possible (labeled a Guardian, I keep accidentally hurting pedestrians or I'd probably be a higher ranking) and it says that I have completed zero good missions when I look at the power upgrades. Are their neutral missions? Because I know that I haven't done any bad missions, and I've done some side quests and a couple story quests. Any ideas?

The side missions can be good, bad, or neutral. If it shows up on the map as a yellow ! point with a blue background its good, red its bad, none (just the !) neutral.

True, but you did post something you didn't have to right? You had the PS3 since launch and only two or was 3 games have interested you? I mean what do you think the response would be in a Sony exclusive thread? You may not be a villain, but don't act coy when the responses focus on you and what you wrote. Remember this is a message board in an exclusive game thread. Well hope you enjoy the game.

Most of the side quests are neutral. You need to look for specific moral-imbued ones. The good ones I believe are blue with yellow outline (the evil ones are red).

Having a blast with the game. It's so fluid and smooth. My wife walked by while I was playing, watched me for a bit, and goes "That looks like crap." I lol'd and she goes "Well, compared to other games I've seen you playing it does." I had to agree, the jaggies are off the charts, but man once you get going you really don't care, and once you see 10 cars blasting up into the air, bodies and debris flying all over, you realize why.

Love the game, can't wait to play some more.

It is funny MS offered the new premium theme to play more crackdown. Now this is a hint Crackdown 2 will be at E3, but with Infamous out I do feel like I am playing Crackdown evolved. Thanks MS for the reminder!

anyone else on the same boat?

This is pretty typical for my amazon orders. Don't look at those estimates, they are never right. If you chose free super saver shipping it is pushing out those dates 3 to 5 days to overestimate when you'll get the game, so next time you choose a different shipping option.

If they are prepping to ship the game should go out today and you will get a tracking number later tonight.

I always use free super saver shipping at amazon, and my items always show up about a week or earlier from the estimates.

Also I'm not sure you get points detracted if you accidentally kill civilians, I believe actions only count toward Karma State if the exp shows up in a color, red or blue. Reviving a citizen gets you blue xp, I only get red ones when I aim directly at a citizen and continually shoot til they die(says "execution"), not they accidentally die when my grenade toss is off. Not sure though.

Do you know whether the side missions are good or bad before taking them? That would make life easier. I like how the split them up, I am not one who replays too many games but that is almost like DLC in the sense that it provides a whole new experience from the first playthrough.

Did anyone else have issues with the combat when you first started? That first part when the bad guys show up to take the food i must have died like 5 times....:lol

Over time its gotten much easier, and the controls are starting to feel like 2nd nature! Love the game!!!

When you get near them, the icons on the map will either turn blue or red.

IIRC they show up as blue or red no matter how far away you are from them on your main map. (Going off playing tired last night so I very well could be wrong, but thats what I remember.)

BTW the audio is still pretty crappy IMO. The dialog gets buried under the music and sound effects and everything sounds like it's smooshed and has absolutely no dynamic range. It's a far cry from the audio in MGS4.
Cheech said:
No, it's not MGS4-good, but it's pretty damn good. Can your receiver decode DTS? The game sounds amazing. I don't have a megabuck setup, but it was still rocking the house.
Of course there goes the obligatory "it's gotta be your system" reply. Can my receiver decode DTS, lol I've got an Onkyo TX-SR607 that takes the uncompressed PCM audio from the PS3 over HDMI and I've got the top of the line Polk Monitor series speakers as well as one of the better subs out there, the Elemental Designs A2-300. And it sounds GREAT with Blu-ray movies as well as other games like MGS4 and KZ2. But the audio in this game is badly mixed and way too compressed (dynamic compression, not data compression).

As for the sound effects themselves, they do sound great. The mixing of them however, does not.

There are 15 "good" and 15 "bad" missions - the rest are neutral and only exist to expand the territory. Good missions are yellow circles filled with blue, Evil missions are yellow circles filled with red.

Again not really. I'm a Playstation 1 launch day owner and have owned every Sony console since in the same fashion. This has just been the first console with very little exclusive games I have been interested in is all and the rest have been multi-platform. It just seems there are many new fanboys with much aggressive attitudes here that is all.

This second city is seriously kicking my ass. I go from completely dominating everyone to being gunned down in seconds depending on my location.

This game is the anti-asscrud. The side missions are so fun. Satellite uplinks ROCKS. It's like the races in crackdown.

I got killed by citizens throwing rocks after that first mission. I'm all "Oh lololol they're throwing rocks at me. That's annoying but shouldn't hurt much." Dead.

But yeah, I've always sucked at aiming with a sony controller, but I'm getting pretty used to it after a while. It helps that the electricity stuns the baddies for a bit so you can smack 'em a few more times easily.

It's not the controller, it's the controller of the controller.

How far do I need to get before I can unlock the electrical rail grind on the power lines?

I love platforming to the top of buildings in Infamous. I hope there is something like the Agency Tower from Crackdown in this game. That would be awesome to scale.
