inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Wait...what. We are comparing Mirrors Edge and Infamous now? :lol

I agree the platforming isn't as skillful as mirrors edge, but then infamous has a more grandiose scale than mirrors edge. It is also a completely different type of game. This is a huge city you can move around freely. If it took the skill of mirrors edge to traverse all these nooks and crannies in Infamous that would be a disaster.

I think Infamous hits the happy medium of giving you enough freedom to make jumps, but without a major penalty for having to hit the jump perfectly. I love being able to freely move around the enviroment with little worries of falling unless I choose to do so. Makes me feel like Cole does have some super hero style agility.

Oh great Matthew is back. You tom chick's pet?

I'm at work right now and all I can think about is going home and playing more. Picked up the game last night after work and played until midnight. I haven't had this much fun with an open world game since, well, GTA IV. :D It's also the first game in which leaping from a high building down to the ground below makes me queasy. Nice work!

So I just played a side mission where I had to choose between saving some dude or taking their blast shards and running. I chose to save him thinking they'd just give me the shards (they didn't). So am I not going to be able to get all 350 shards now?

i would like to know this too.

Someone else earlier in the thread said quest shards don't count towards the 350 hidden ones. They only help your meter grow.

Okay, awesome! Thanks!

That's not the early mission where you help the cops is it? If so, you have to grab them yourself out of the locker after saving them.
Nah, it's in the Warren.

I was just linking to Tycho's comments on the game in a humorous manner. It's fresh info concerning the game. I know, it was a little snarky. But it's just a joke.

Would anyone care to comment on his observation, "Something strange happens with platform exclusive titles when they come into contact with the journalistic edifice, and I don't know what it is."

His post was indeed a little lame, but they do have a point with the comic strip.

Said comic had it's own thread and discussion.

We are trying to keep this thread about the game which has enough problems staying on track.

And yeah the comic is funny, coming from someone who loves inFamous :)

I'm just waiting for EDGE to come out with a low score for inFamous so you or someother guy with an agenda can create a topic about it.

Enough with this guy, back to talking about the game.

But I was talking about Tycho's news post. He is not 100% positive. In fact, I'd say that while Tom Chick liked and recommended the game, Tycho tends more towards expressing disappointment.

Stupid question: Is there a stats screen in this game? Cause I want to know how much shit I've collected. If there is none, they totally dropped the ball on that one

The comics are great :lol

You have to look at your save.

Damn this game's addicting. And holy shit @ at all the missions that keep popping up everywhere on the map. All I'm doing right now is exploring and killing reapers.

This is soo my kind of game.

I've never gotten more sidetracked in a game and loved every second of it...When you see a shard glistening in the distance you just HAVE to go get it :)

Sorry, everyone in the thread is actually playing the game and discussing it now. Make another thread or something.

Was my post confusing? I find the comic funny...there's nothing wrong with it. I was saying their point about the fence is true, and amusing.

I with you on this one Lol, it's not only funny but true. I clocked in over 15 hrs into this game and I effin' love it but when I ran into a fence (a few hrs in) and realized I couldn't hop it.. I was a little disappointed but it didn't take me out the experience as much as my other gripes (i.e. inconsistent framerate).

Some of you seriously need to calm down..

Platinum get!

All in all I'd say I played the game for around 24 hours or so in total. Second playthrough was much shorter than the first though (I'd say about 8 hours) because I pretty much skipped most of the sidemissions and didn't go out of my way for anything (blast shards, dead drops) since I got them on the first playthrough. I just spent some time trying to get all the damn stunts. lol

Great game, the 9's were spot on.

Does anyone know what triggers getting good or bad karma for certain story missions?

I'm not talking about the blue or red quests, or the black or white karma choices. Occasionally I will finish a mission and get bad karma, seems totally random.

Maybe I killed a few civilians? Or didn't cuff the baddies when they were down?

Be nice if someone knows, it's kind of bugging me:lol

Spent a few hours with this last night, pretty interesting. It really goes for the whole origin superhero story vibe, and succeeds so far. I'm writing a review of it for a friend's site if anyone would be interested reading it. I'll post it when I'm done if anyone cares. :lol

It's a game about urban traversal where the platforming has been trivialized by a kind of capricious magnetism
I actually really agree with this. It's just not hampering my fun as much as it is for Tycho.

Explain. I was wondering the same thing.
Manually save the game, then go to "Load Game." They'll bring up a bunch of stats underneath the save file after a couple seconds. I really wish they just had a stats screen. :\

Killing downed enemies instead of cuffing them (or just leaving them) nets you negative karma. But it's usually the civilians getting hit accidentally. lol

I wish there were more of those satellite linking/timed race missions. My favorite sidequest. Also want to add that I'm really digging the story.. searching for dead drops inbetween missions and such, most fun I've had looking collecting since crac.. Dammit. Seriously one of the best titles this generation.

Exactly.

"Ok, I'm going to do this Dirty Job mission and...wait, is that a blue shard on the side of that building? Better go get it. And I'll kill those reapers shooting at me."

This is a catch 22 in my mind. If the game did not handle some things for you (you can still fuck up and fall to your doom) then I can see many, many people getting really frustrated with the platforming as you would have to be really precise to do some of the things you can do in the game. The game would not be as fast paced as it is now which is half the fun for me.

Danged if do, danged if you don't.

Really liking this game! Done a couple of the main missions (just unlocked the grenades) and a handful of side missions. Fun stuff just fucking around.

Don't those civilians see a superhero fighting supervillians, those people should get out of the way :lol

Yup, they really nailed the controls for the most part.

A big plus is the shooting mechanics. The combat would have fallen apart had they gone with a lock-on system.

Yeah, they're morons.

Once they followed me for some unknown reason into an enemy compound, where they were quickly slaughtered by both me (accidentally) and the enemy.
It was hilarious. :lol

Two questions

1- edit- n/m, I'm colorblind

2- I accidentally mega-stomped on a dude that was going to give me a side-mission. I healed him, and he got back up and ran away. How do I get him back to where he was so I can do the mission?

This game is insanely addictive. Can't put this shit down. The controls, the violence, the world, karma and ability progression... it's a sandbox full of crack.

1- what are the yellow side-mission icons with the green background for? I know the red ones are for evil karma... are the green ones good and the clear ones neutral?

Green? The blue ones are good missions. I have no idea what a green side mission is.

Side missions eventually respawn, you have to wait a while for it come back. Just leave the area and go back

impressions of first fifteen minutes:

- graphics are a bit eh initially, but look much better when you activate a point of interest. this will probably get much better as i get deeper in, like many games.

- writing is very heavy-handed.

- controls are really tops, as expected from sucker punch. anyone who likes the way this controls needs to check out SLY COOPER; i've only done the first mission with the food, but the way cole moves up poles and dances across railings and such is much like that character.

I remember there was a mission on the second island where they gave me a choice to either blow up an enemy near these injured civilians or let him attack me and keep them safe.

I choose the "good" choice by letting him attack me but then I started chucking grenades and pretty much everything I had at him. I ended up killing all the civilians anyways :lol

Oh well..

Yeah, I dunno, I can see that they're blue now, I thought they were green for a bit. I'm not colorblind or anything. I just finished the fountain mission so I think I must have been trippin' balls along with Cole.

Just opened my copy and the intro is funny in a bad way. Things are blowing up and the cops are just standing there not moving or even acknowledging anything.

I just gotta jump in here and say I am looooooving this game. Played probably 5-6 hours since I picked it up. Just
restored power to the last substation in the Neon District

Feels like the best open-world game this gen easily
