inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Finished my first play through on hard (infamous). Was never at any point during the game captivated by the story. What made the game for me were the skills. Being able to figure out combinations for different situations or just spamming the missile was amazing. The parkour and platforming lost its charm near the end and the game wasn't particularly hard (probably ended up retrying one of the satellite uplink missions more than anything else).

Had fun though, most main story missions were interesting. First quest on the 3rd island was a highlight. Even though I was compelled to 100% each island, the side missions were trivial (most likely a result of being spoiled by saints row).

frame rate, character models, and get rid of all those bugs.
I'm hoping for a complete game play art style change to fit with the comic scenes. I agree with the framerate issues. The bugs aren't groundbreaking but yeah that too.

Sandbox games are sure prone to bugs.

THIS.
I think the game looks great but I am hoping they go with a comic look for the next game. The cutscenes in this game are what I associate with the games look despite the fact they are not gameplay, if I could play in that type of style it would be awesome.

Character models definitely aren't that great but I didn't find the framerate too bad. Bugs here and there with regards to certain objects you cannot grab but again minor in my experience.

I'm surprised people are having a hard time with the stunts, I completed them all yesterday without ever grinding for any of them, just through the normal course of the game. The only ones I really had to work extra for was sticky bombing an airborne enemy, which just required me grenade spamming guys I launched off buildings for a minute or two. I think I've killed more enemies with their own grenades than I could count though.

For people trying to grind out the stunts, I would say just play normally until the third island, if you haven't unlocked them all at that point then maybe start grinding through them. The only one, in retrospect, that would be hard later on is knocking 3 or 5 enemies off of the roof with one blast, I did that during the very first Dark Waters mission but I haven't seen that many guys on a single roof since then. I mean, technically you can't even complete all your stunts until the 3rd island since you won't have the Lightning ability unlocked yet.

Would be pretty cool if they do those outline shading like borderland. I know it's not called outline shading but I have to name it. It does kind of fit the art style of the comic scenes.

I agree. The only comic-ish thing I don't want to see is words poping up in-game. :D

You can push cars away with a shockwave man. Just have that coming out from the feet and there you have your double jump.

That would be awesome.
Or you can have a giant shockwave that propels you up 3 stories or use the shockwave for aerial maneuvers :D

Indeed. OMG I can't wait for the sequel already :lol

On both playthroughs now I've always gotten stuck (well, or at least the pause menu item always stops) at the "Precision while you're riding a power line" until I consciously do it. It's just not something I find to be very useful between the wonky aiming when you go into precision combined with the movement on the wire.

I promised impressions days ago, the night it came out. Sorry.
But if it means anything, it's probably because I was too busy having fun to be bothered to type anything up.

Just beat it as a Hero on normal, with 49% of the trophies.
I don't think I'm going to do a hard mode evil run anytime soon, but I will eventually.
In the meantime, I've got other goodies to play (Uncharted 1) and on the way (Assassin's Creed 1).

Game was rough in many respects, but ultimately a very, very fun game with some pretty neat new concepts that, IMHO, successfully tweak both third person shooters and open-world action games.

It was almost a Crackdown-like experience at times (loved that game, though I never finished it), but the narrative, tightly woven into the game progression and overall gameplay experience, gave it a very nice momentum and direction. I also appreciated the smaller open-world scale, to a certain extent. Though it was smaller, it didn't prevent some annoying copy/pasting of features.

I type this as I finish watching the credits, which compound the already pretty shocking ending by adding an even more depressing slant to it. (Bonus scene post credits, folks).

Saving and looking at my file, I see that I'm a Hero with an 83% completion rate, 52 powers/upgrades (including the GS preorder bonus shock claws), 84/84 districts found, 32/32 dead drops found, and something like 335-340/350 bomb shards collected. Not too shabby for a first go at the game, particularly since I played through the entire Neon district not realizing that I could hit L3 to scope out nearby dead drops and bomb shards! Alas...

I've only managed 12/21 stunts. I got stuck on the one that you're supposed to sticky grenade a fool and then precision/shockwave him away before detonating. Never quite managed it, despite the fact that I accidentally stumbled into plenty more stunts beyond that. I think I'll put the game down now, with stunts, bomb shards, and trophies in complete.

I had a great time, and I'd recommend it to anyone, even those not so inclined towards open-world action games, such as me. I'm happy I trusted Sucker Punch enough to give it a shot. <3 Sly Cooper and definitely looking forward to Infamous 2.

Edit - I suppose I should list out some flaws which could do with fixing for the next game.
1) The vacuum effect when platforming is jarring and more annoying than helpful. It makes much of the platforming rote and easy and makes dropping down levels exasperating.

2) Not so much a complaint as a confused observation, but I'm surprised at just how many powers don't drain electricity reserves at all. Unlimited bolt ammo? Bolt ammo that actually recharges you when you hit baddies (though not Kessler, I noticed) once it's powered up enough? Head scratchers, for sure.

3) Some of the side quests sucked hard. As inventive, involved, and occasionally city-transforming as the main missions are, the side and karmic missions ranged from inoffensive to downright bad. They lack variety, and sometimes you get the same basic one 3 or 4 times in a row (such as the tar trucks and tar canister quests).

4) Distinct lack of enemy variety. The combat feels basically samey all throughout. Where it not for the occasionally interesting-looking stunt list, I rarely even bothered to mix up my attacks so much. The bolt is more than powerful enough to take out just about anything, and (as a decently powered up Hero at least), nailing headshots will chain the lightning to nearby enemies, restore your health, and recharge your reserves. Just a bit overpowered, I thought.

5) Distinct lack of satisfying boss fights. They could have done so much more. I'll make it easy for you. Ray Sphere goes off in the beginning of the game, Cole gains lightning powers while other nearby victims similarly mutate instead of simply expiring. Mutate in different ways, of course. Alas.

6) Glitches, glitches, glitches. Pop in of characters, occasionally off collision detection, sometimes wonky platforming (especially in the beginning, before you're able to really move around normally). Enemies that get knocked into the air and never land, just keep on flailing away as if they're flying through their air, despite the fact that they're stuck in a wall or something... Nothing game breaking, but lots of jarring moments.

Do it on the Train tracks it's so easy.

I think you folks recommending a graphic novel style for the overall art design on InFamous 2 are on to something, I don't think it's going to be to far fetched considering the next game they are working on is a Sly Cooper game:D The engine will be in place for it at that point.

I'd like to see it done as a 'ride the lightning' type thing, where a solid lightning bolt strikes you (or you reach out a grab it) and you ride it up like an express elevator before launching off it. The more you upgrade it, the higher you can ride it/the longer the lightning bolt remains :)

Just beat the game, holy shit at the ending.

So was Sasha Trish from the future? Or did Trish from the future die anyway? If Sasha was indeed Trish like Kessler was Cole, then that whole plot line starts to make sense. Kinda. I think I'll do a playthrough on Evil next time around with a new perspective on things.

Speaking of an evil playthrough, I read what happens to you when you activate the ray sphere again instead of just flat-out destroying it. You get red/black lightning and an extra 4-5 energy cores on top of what you already have? That sucks when making the "good" decision gives you fuck all, it's things like these that make you think you're not having as much fun as you could if you played on evil. Oh well. I'll likely replay on evil after I'm done with clearing out what's left of my backlog.

And I wonder what happened to Alden. You were about to kill him, he escaped... and he was never mentioned again. I wonder if Sucker Punch will bring him up in Infamous 2. Maybe he's the Beast? Or maybe John somehow survived and turned into it? The Beast is likely some entirely new character anyway, so whatever.

I really want an Infamous 2 now, though. Disappointed to hear they're making a Sly 4 after the ending. Oh well, hopefully by the time Infamous 2 is released it can be on the PS4 and really amp everything up (pun not intended).

Oh, and I forgot – going into the sewers to activate the last power station, then coming up early and essentially having unlimited energy to unleash lightning strike after lightning strike on enemies and semis is the most satisfying thing ever. You always kept on getting additional powers throughout the game, but there was still a sense of vulnerability. Then near the end, you get the lightning strike which trumps all other powers combined, and you're fed an unlimited stream of energy. Then waves of enemies and trucks come on in, and you fry them with ease. Seeing all the utter destruction you're causing while you're hearing the XP roll in is pretty amazing. Well done, Sucker Punch.

All in all, amazing game. Definitely the best game I've played this year (including Killzone 2, Gears 2, GTA4 and Left 4 Dead, but L4D comes close). I would call this my GOTY of 2009 if I didn't know Uncharted 2, MW2 and Forza 3 were coming this fall. But even still, it's my favorite PS3 game that's been released thus far.

about the ending

the cole from the future...how did kessler get super powers exactly? the cole we play got super powers from his future self.. so who gave future cole super powers?

He invented the Ray Sphere (as well as the various gadgets that he's wearing) and it sounds like he gave superpowers to the Red Beast and himself using it. I'm curious about all that, because Cole doesn't seem like an inventor in the least. He brought the Ray Sphere back in time to give his younger self superpowers YEARS earlier than he had obtained them in his former life so that Cole would be more powerful by the time the Red Beast arrives - though that requires him to invent the Ray Sphere again, unless it turns out to be John.

I need major help please, where is the third Jammer??????

edit found the damn Jammer hiding in between some cars.

Haha...I wasn't being serious at all. None of his powers really have much to do with how electricity really works.

Not that it matters at all (just a video game), but my favorite example of this is the fact that you can "suck all the electricity" out of something like a street light.

Kinda late but beat the game on hard (good playthrough) and loved it. Then immediately played it on Infamous (evil) and had even more fun. I felt like a freaking god lol. Chaining combos together feels sooo satisfying in this game cause it actually takes skill. Also, holyyyy shieeeeet @ ending...bring on Infamous 2!

Now apparent issue I'm having on my third ran, less sticky climbing. I know it's great to have sticky but sometimes it's too sticky. Just a tad less would be great.

I don't really care for A.I with 100% target and aiming on you because you can just strafe them and a lot of those shots will miss. I know because on my 2nd play through on hard I was on a verge of dying tons of times and strafing saved my life and net me some extra exp because I don't have to walk all the way back to fight.

I'm reminded of static shock even though I've never watched it.

After finishing the game, are there any story moments involving
Moya or Sasha? It's revealed that Moya wasnt FBI, but then they never explain who she is. Sasha keeps asking you to kill Kessler at the end, but no resolution for her either
. I'll play some extra missions if it explains more stuff. Cuz they arent fun enough to really do only for 100% completion

The sequel will probably explain up on that I hope, but for now I call Moya to be terrorist organization trying to get a hand on the
Ray Sphere
. There's something really fisher about her saying
how she will keep the Ray Sphere safe and locked up
and how she said it too.

No.

All these answers are likely to be answered in the sequel.
Can't wait to continue working with Sasha. <3

If you listen to all the Drop Zone messages it explains about Kessler and Sasha's relationship a bit more

They continuously insinuated that Moya is
higher than FBI, in some really black black ops group, like DARPA or so.
That's the only thing that's pretty much feasible, seeing as how she actually was there during the machinegunning of civilians.

Found all the shards woot.

What if the "Red Beast" turns out to be Zeke?

Is it wrong that I do all the side-missions before I do the available story missions? I just started the second island and I already have over half the blast shards. :lol

What a fun game. Thanks Sucker Punch. :)

That's what I did. It's how I prefer to play games in general, which usually means in RPGs that I'm completely overpowered for the end bosses from doing all the sidestuff beforehand.

Good god I hope not, because that would mean my dream of Zeke dying in the first 5 minutes of inFamous2 would not be realised. inFamous may be in the running for GotY but Zeke is the one to beat for Worst Game Character of the Year.

I'm on the stunt where it says defeat a conduit with a thunder drop.

I'm on Historic...

Who's a conduit on this island? Or should I go back to Warren and look around?

Conduits

Neon -
White warping guys
Warren -
Spider throwing guys/ Golems
Historic -
Giant growing guys

Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head.

Then the sequel would suck before it was even out. I kept trying to find ways to kill that fat bastard. Was really dissapointed that he survives in both endings, if he is the beast then Kessler had more then enough chances to kill him yet he chose not to.
Same theory applies to John, if Kessler knows who the beast is then it would have been much easier to simply kill his past-unpowered version. And there would be no need to train/push past Cole into becoming a hero.
