You're not serious are you?

Do people really get worked up that much over graphics? I only noticed the lack of aliasing once, when I was standing around and realized how jaggy a particular shadow was.

This game has a decent number of short comings but for some reason the core elements are so much fun that I am able to look past them.
No, I'm not serious at all. Just sort of a jab at the way some people have portrayed the graphics.

lol come on, I didn't think a sarcasm meter would be needed for that. 'Even if you can't see the jaggies, they are there'? I think the game looks great; I barley notice any of the problems people speak of.

I think almost everyone who got it early is missing out on the beta code..I know I didn't get one. Thanks to Qore I'll have it after all.

Yup, I didnt get the beta code either. Dont have qore either, so i'm royally fucked. :lol

Well there will be a thread of people asking for code and maybe some websites will be doing contests for the beta code.

I don't think that's a fair "jab," though. Some of us are really that sensitive to that particular issue, and to me, the game cooks up the perfect storm of clutter, with aliasing issues crowning a really quite detailed environment. I'd in all seriousness be willing to pay another $60 (or more) for a patch that improved edges in the game.

Don't worry about it. If the code is sharable there will be people sharing it.
I'll definitely share when I buy the game if it is.

Well, I didn't try to name anyone because I wasn't trying to take a personal shot. I think there are some reviewers (and a few people) who just arent admitting to being hyper sensitive to the graphics, and have just panned that aspect of the game. I really just thought there were some over reactions, didn't want to point any fingers.

So, I preordered this from Amazon a while ago. It shipped on Friday. However, unlike some on cheapassgamer, I have not received a separate email that confirms I am getting the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta voucher. From the sounds of it, not all copies of this game have it. What the hell?

Well, for the record, I think that flatly panning the visuals is completely unfair, as it does quite a few things very well. The lighting is top notch, which is awesome since, hey, it's a game about blowing shit up with lightning. The textures are generally pretty damned good for the genre (even if I think that it meshes poorly with the aliasing). And Cole looks and moves fuck awesome.

And NO SCREEN TEARING (tm) which I think is huge. That's the issue I notice the most. To be fair, reviewer talk about the things they notice the most, and often that's the problems they notice.

Edit: GTA4 had less jaggies for sure, but that fuzzing haze that seemed to be there all the time really bugged me. I think inFamous looks much more defined.

The demo made a very good impression on me from both a visual as well as an audio standpoint. The effort required to get Cole to move from place to place was minimal and was quite enjoyable. I love the comic book presentation. And is Cole's voice the same as Gabe Logan from Syphon Filter? All in all, I am really looking forward to this.

Hence why we all have a jolly good laugh when they, or others, refer to their field as "enthusiast press."

But I'm being unfair. The game seems to have really hit the right chords with a lot of people, though, and that's great to hear. There was a comment in the 1up podcast, what was it... oh yeah, "not the best game, but the favorite game." Like, a game made by people whose true area of expertise is to make fun games.

If anyone wants to find a way to extend exploration time in the demo kill the women that give you missions and kill yourself when the timer comes up. You'll always wake up on a cot and the timer will be reset. You need to kill the person that gives you the mission again when you wake up if you want to repeat this.

This is the game that will push me over the edge into PS3 ownerdom.

LOVE this developer and the vids look like all kinds of awesome :D

I have to admit that the very nice DTS 5.1 and sound effects that accompany the Sucker Punch logo at the opening of the game made me utter an audible "Hell yes!". Touch the lightning!

As long as your copy is marked with the sticker, it will include the beta code.

Except the stupid running limp animation at the start of the game. We were mocking that one pretty hard at work.

To step away from the visuals for a second; the sound design is phenomenal. The DTS track is really rocking my sub and I'm only a few hour in. It more than makes up for the occasional pop-up and low res textures on some of the surfaces.

Yup. Sound is too often overlooked this generation. inFamous is not Metal Gear Soild 4, but it is pretty damn good (in the demo no less)

Is it just me or is the game lacking in music? It seems to only have music when you're on missions. I love the track that plays when you're on the
Follow the Courier
type missions.

man, I am SOOO hoping that I can find a place around me that is gonna let this thing slip out either today or tomorrow. I mean why not. Memorial Day weekend and all. You know shoppers are gonna be out. I don't understand releasing it after Memorial Day weekend, let alone one day after. Especially when all the retailers already have it in stock but just haven't put in on the shelves....

Just spent about 4 to 5 hours in the game. It really is like Crackdown though the platforming elements are a little less precise and more forgiving which actually makes for a better experience.

The way Cole can use his powers to help locate hidden shards is great and it really helps in reducing the tedium normally associated with such collect-a-thons.

The side-missions are fun at first but I'm only about 50% through the first city and I'm getting really sick of them already. That's where the Assassin's Creed comparisons come in, I guess. There certainly is a wide variety of different side missions to do but none of them are terribly interesting and most of them are not very rewarding either.

Main missions so far are also pretty lame. The areas you go through are very repetitive and I have already encountered several laughably bad plot devices (tar in the face, you'll know what I mean when you get there). Zeke is also an annoying little bitch.

So far, I'd rate it a solid 8 to 8.5 and put it on par with Crackdown and just slightly above Assassin's Creed. If you like Crackdown and to a lesser extent, Assassin's Creed, you'll definitely like this game.

EDIT: I just thought I should add that the graphics are not as fantastic as some people make it out to be. Technically, AC is definitely superior and I'd even rate GTAIV over this. That's not to say that the graphics aren't good because they really are. But the jaggies are definitely there though a good thing is that I haven't really notice much, if any, slowdown.

This game is kicking my ass, on Easy and still died about 10 times during the demo!

Very fun, tight controls/platforming, GREAT sound and graphics (kinda jaggy like people said, not gamebreaking)

Difficulty wise I would say this game is really frustrating at times. It borrows the annoying design decision from Crackdown of having enemies all over who shoot at you from way out of your line of sight. On hard mode it is not uncommon to be walking around and get waxed by guys you can't even see. In all honesty in most fights I don't actually feel like a super powered bad ass, I feel like a normal dude being swarmed by enemies and doing my best to barely survive. I've upgraded all my powers beyond their initial level but I still feel like each encounter is frenetic and at times extremely frustrating (could be that it was late and I was tired, I dunno). Sometimes the game makes me feel like maybe I should be playing it like Gears and going from cover element to cover element slowly picking dudes off which isn't quite what I want out of this game.

Well, you *are* playing the game on Hard. If it bothers you so much, switch the game to Medium and enjoy the game the way you want it. It doesn't make sense for you to ruin the game for yourself like that.

being shot doesn't really bother me as much as you can just run to the nearest lightpole and heal to max health again, or do it to a lot of cars if under heavy fire.

Never played Crackdown but the side missions are definitely more varied than GTA games, also doing side missions makes the territories controlled by the people so enemies won't respawn in that area.

Aliasing you don't notice when moving around, but anytime you stand still on the roofs you definitely see it around the edges of Cole. Doesn't bother me though as the gameplay is still rock solid.

Jumped off a few tall buildings, got the spidermen type rush, it was pretty awesome.

Sweet man. I knew there would be some little bug like this to keep playing.

I didn't get this email...The beta was honestly a huge reason why I decided to buy inFamous...I better get a voucher in mine...

:lol

You're buying a great game mainly because it contains the beta for the multiplayer component of the sequel to a game that had terrible shooting mechanics?

I think Infamous really deserves more than that.

Because you're sure they feel the same way right? :lol
EDIT: By the way they said "huge reason" not "mainly", and they wouldn't have included it with the game if they didn't think it would somewhat influence sales.

Well, the first game certainly didn't give me any confidence that it would be any better!

At least the people who bought Crackdown for the Halo 3 multiplayer beta had perfectly valid reasons to expect that to be good.

Here in lies the issue, they are not you. It may not be enough a reason for YOU but that is hardly a reflection of how THEY feel.

Not to mention I haven't heard anything bad regarding Uncharted shooting mechanics.
EDIT: The whole thing comes across as a "point and laugh" which is just rude. A lot of people see the beta as another reason to get the game.

I guess you don't like the shooting mechanics in this game either do you?

In Infamous? It's no Call of Duty or even Gears of War but they work well enough in the context of the game.

I know it certainly wouldn't work well in a multiplayer context. Just look at Crackdown and GTAIV's multiplayer modes and how long people actually played those.

Uncharted shooting mechanics are much better than GTAIV (I didn't like it's mp much at all), I think it'll be much better. Do you like Gears multiplayer, or are you just not in to 3rd person shooting multi. I have to admit I can't think of a 3 person mp shooters I like, although I hear socom used to be good.

Demo was quite fun...aliasing was very noticible at first, but when you get beyond that, the graphics are pretty good I think...It may not be as impressive as AC, but having played that game recently, it hasn't aged as well as I expected. Scaling the environment is quite fun, sometimes the range of animations seem a bit limited though

Also worth noting is that the lightning, sparks and explosions own the living shit out of the lightning, sparks and explosions in Assassin's Creed.
I don't even remember any sparks or explosions in AC.

I prefer the lighting in AC, but I think that the lighting in Infamous is one of its strongest visual points nonetheless.

The thing to wait for will be the lighting in AC2, as it features a day/night cycle.
