Insomniac on the release of Spider-Man 2: The disc contains the entire game and is playable from start to finish with no patch or online requirement

Oh fuck off you know its true.
Never said it wasn't...
Cracking Up Lol GIF

Obviously great news, but as others have said, the fact that this is noteworthy at all speaks to the crappy way things work in some quarters.

Super niche weirdo question. Insomniac has pioneered the 40hz quality mode. On previously released though I believe that feature was a post release patch. Does Spider-Man 2 mark the first time this has happened on release code (I.e., on disc)?

Significant polish does not equal not the full experience.

Yall are trying waaaay too hard.

While you are right, games like Callisto Protocol are also technically fully playable via the 1.0 disc start to finish. But that doesn't mean its an ideal scenario that anyone should be forced to suffer when there's updates that make it a much better experience.

The developer(s) of the game themselves want you to get the patch before you start playing:

The Last of Us Remastered had a 40hz mode at launch, but in that games case the mode was poor and they actually *removed* it with a patch, post-release.

edit: As did Plague Tale 2 (but that is a non Sony game).

They lied and they have faulty discs. It's a shame.
And they somehow had the nerve to publish a pompous message "the entire game is on the disc, we da best", only for the game to have additional modes later through an update, and the actual discs not even working.

This is called karma.
Updating the game after launch and disc production issues doesn't change anything you angry little nuggets.

Edit: I went a bit overboard my apologies.

Anyways this problem is due to a manufacturing issue with the disks. It doesn't make Insomniac liars or bad devs.

Seems like you both are just trying to make the devs look like the bad guys when they actually did a pretty good job with this title.

While unfortunate I don't believe the defects with the physical disk is their fault.

I know its like saying that my faulty copy of Predator 2 means the movie is broken.

Yes it sucks that it's happening to some physical copies but that's the manufacturers fault for making defective copies of the game.

Does it even matter if the game is on the disc, if the developers are insisting the shit out of not playing the version that's on the disc ?

Maybe imagine it not working without the disk if it makes you feel better.

Truth is to those that can't update it at launch they can still play the game. So it does matter to some people.

The implication that the game is shipping in a competent state and not in need of patches.

Riled the fans up to praise them and it turns out the games as buggy as the buggiest games this year.

Actually you are lying if your saying its broken like Golem was. That's one of the worst games I've seen this year.

Plus the statement still is true from them but the best experience is with the patch.

Shit, I didnt even think about a pos like golem. OK let me rephrase as buggy as any big triple A game released this year.

My PAL disc is working. Shame though if it isn't for some.

I don't want to upset anyone with this, but this really made me laugh, I had looked at this thread and seen people saying how good it was for a game to finally release finished, no patch needed. Perfect, straight off the disc. Anyway, and I promise I didn't seek these clips out, they were just pushed at me on Twitter, I don't follow either of these accounts.

This is outright disgusting. This shit should be illegal. Why is this shit only happening in gaming where devs can sell you an unfished product without telling you in a clear upfront communication that the GAME NEEDS A DAY ONE PATCH. WHY ARE YOU PRINTING THE GAME ON DISC WHEN YOU CLEARLY KNOW IT'S NOT THE COMPLETE VERSION???? Disgusting behaviour by Sony.

Never buy games day one. Best lesson to learn.

I mean, exactly.

Sure physical games are cool for 2 obvious reasons : you can lend and sell your games. But nobody wants to play vanilla versions, except maybe for some research purpose. Who wants Bloodborne vanilla ?

What I am telling to my friends since more than a decade, but they keep laughing at me, is that wether or not you buy physical games, you NEED internet to download the patches and to play the final game. So in the end the reasons to want a physical version for me are just : you want a box on a shelf, you want to lend your game, you want to sell your games. Other than that there are no reasons.

If you never sell any games, if you keep everything, you might just go all digital, and that's usually that type or profile who chose to go all digital first, the people who anyway never sell any game.

The Sony fanboysim that makes people say "hell yeah the whole game is on disc", even though this is still the cast with the VAST majority of games... That is quite impressive.

Yah this game isn't polished well.

I just started this game and this is what I encountered

So it's Redfall bad?

The game is great, just super buggy. Had a few hard crashes during my playthrough and I had to reload checkpoints MULTIPLE times to get past bugs that would basically freeze you out of playing. Like one Sandman crystal locked the camera in a strange position and I couldn't break it open, then another time there was a new move prompt on the screen for Miles and the controls were just frozen.

Cant laugh at a obviously buggy game, that will be fixed?

The game is awesome. Nothing wrong with laughing at the odd bug that 90 percent of people won't even witness.
Oh, you can. I just remember when we were laughing at Starfield — you weren't in on the jokes. :p

And Spider-Man 2 has bugs. It's not really a "buggy game" (bit of a difference). I reserve that for games that are unplayable due to a significant amount or gaming breaking/kill progress sort of bug. Otherwise, every game is buggy.

The tweet in the OP explicitly states the best experience is to download the day one update lol.

But you wouldn't consider the game being broken or unplayable right?

There's no way it's extremely broken otherwise we would have seen it in plenty of reviews or performance analysis.
