Intentionally limiting your platforms?

Seems like any of the 3 options below:

Skill issue
Not my problem
Seethe and cope

But in all seriousness, I get being spoiled for choice can be annoying and even difficult at time. It's a true problem, albeit a very luxurious one. If I look at my Steam library alone there's a vast majority I've never even installed. I somehow learned to not care about it at all and do whatever the hell I feel like instead.

I'm in the same boat OP, but I have a couple challenges that make it really hard to trim the fat off my gaming stack, First of all, my family forces me to buy shitty Nintendo products. So we have that crap at home. Then, I can't get rid of my Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast. Someone will have to pull these out of my dead cold hands. I also still hold onto a PS3/360 as I have many memories of that gen. Last but not least, my platform of choice rn is PC, which I have multiple of. So far I really only managed to get rid of PS5 and XSX, not very successful. But you're spot on - the less choice paralysis, the better for your mental wellbeing.

Always got all the console and always end up not using them enough. Now I'm trying to focus, I love pc gaming but hardware fomo usually hit me pretty hard and I find difficult to manage it. I'm sincerely torn between ps5 and pc now, kids using ps5 mainly is what tips me towards the console world (easier to play with them and cheaper to maintain one single ecosystem, since I'll have to pay for PSN and ps5 games regardless, also easier to ask for birthday present for the kids... Trying telling someone not tech savvy to gift a steam key or a steam card instead of a PS5 game that can be bought in any physical store). Even now that my 7900xtx died I'm contemplating if buying a second ps5 would be the right choice instead of a new GPU... Anyway I feel you, choice paralysis is a real problem and even if it's a first world problem it can sometimes hit so hard that you end up doing nothing and in the end having "less" could feel waaay better than having too much...

Yeah, that's how it is. I used to buy pretty much every console back in the day and now I just use XSX (got rid of Ps5 and all the old ones) and the gaming has never been better.

I've been a 1 main console (PS4 -> PS5) + 1 side console (XONE -> Series X) guy for a number of years. I like having most games in a single ecosystem and I use Xbox only for Game Pass (not regularly) or some exclusives I can't have on PlayStation (not going to be a problem now ;)).

I've been ignoring PC gaming (despite having a decent PC for work) for more than a decade now and for most part I'm okay with that. There have been only a few games that I desperantly wanted to play and there were no plans of porting them to the consoles. In all other cases I'll pick the console versions, even if theoretically it will be an inferior experience (because of controls of worse performance).

Get a switch 2 and give to me. I'll let you know if it's any good. You can trust me I'm Optimus prime.

I've always maintained a monogamous relationship with my video game platforms, so I've only ever had PlayStation machines. I don't even keep the old ones; sold my PS4 directly after getting a PS5, and sold the PS5 after getting my Pro.

I'm basically the gamer equivalent of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Personally I'm content with my PS5 + low-end notebook for retrogaming. I don't need anything else.

^This is my realistic suggestion for people who ask how to get into games. Start with one or the other and eventually try both.

A ps plays the heavier games from passable to very well for $500. Really easy to just plug into your ht and have all the bells and whistles with hardly any setup, maintenance, or gremlins. You can get the subscription if you are just tarting out and want an instant library. That offsets how waiting for sales sucks on console.

Any laptop covers vast chunks of the blind spot left over. Smaller games+emus run with minimal fuss, and don't so much call for the hdr and surround sound. You can even use the controller from the ps with the laptop. You also have a very convenient portable/private option.

If you made me choose between a $500 laptop and a $500 ps5 to do all my gaming on, I'd actually have a pretty tough time. I could get a shitload of gaming done on either. Flip a coin.

I have stuck with xbox for now and switch as secondary system. Works well.

I prefer to dedicate a lot of time to a limited number of games. This helps me in appreciating all they have to offer.

Also, gets easier to spot hidden gems and bad/mid games.

It's like deliberately choosing to only eat at a certain restaurant. Could go eat a juicy steak at some other place but no for some reason I'm supposed to be happier by only eating at the trusty ol M restaurant.

Nah, not for me. I get cranky if I know I can't play a game. I want to sense excitement no matter where a new game is announced.

I do this for years. I only buy 1 console. The only exception was XSS since it was cheaper and readily available during the pandemic with lots of disposable income and nothing else to do. I cancelled Switch 2 pre order the other day. I only use PS5, basically.

I'm right there with you OP. I only own a PS5 now and it's enough because it has more games I want to play than I have the time to. My backlog is seriously nuts.

I'm currently playing the original PS4 version of DQ The Elusive Age whilst I wait for the DS 2 release. It hasn't aged a bit, and I'd argue that it has some of the best enemy designs in any JRPG.

I genuinely don't have the time for another system, or gaming PC. Life/work/game balance is key.

I used to have a lot of consoles but I sold most of them and now I only have my Switch, my PS5 and my Switch 2, covers everything I want to play.

Yeah I've done the same. Sold my ps5 to buy a pro but was underwhelmed with reviews so I've been solely playing pc. Playing some of my backlog and epic free games and it's been great. I picked up a rog ally and
crossplay/progression is great. I have a 4070ti but now I'm thinking of just sticking with pc and splurging on a 5090. 99% of games come to pc now anyway.

I bought a Series X first and then a PS5 a little bit later - I have always struggled with "too much choice paralysis" and it stressed me out for a while with which platform to buy games on!

I eventually decided on PS5 after hearing all MSs bullshit during the ABK thing and its good - I personally much prefer having all my stuff in one place. Plus I had many more Essentials monthly games that I wanted to play over what was/is on Gamepass generally.

I still use my Series X for some games (fps boost games, Gears 1-3 and select Gamepass games) but would generally prefer to just have it all on PS5.

The Series X as a console is really good tbf and I do still feel I should buy more to play on it - sunk cost fallacy I guess.

I play the few PS exclusives on my PS5 Pro, and all the rest of my gaming is on my Xbox Series X. Essentially a 90/10 split favoring my Xbox. I have like 800+ games that I own on it, and my library keeping growing immensely. I don't do subscriptions.

Switch 2 and PC will remain my go to.
Home consoles with no exclusives or shit exclusives are redundant, paying for Online play is a sad joke.

I played on PC for a long time, but switch for consoles ten years ago. I can't explain, but when playing on PC, the feeling was different.

Now I love to play of PS5, for me it's a really great platform. The console is super ultra quiet, I literally can't hear anything from it. The dualsense is great despite the battery (but I have 4 and a charge station, so whatever) and for my taste, the visuals and performance that it delivers are good enought.

I know exactly what op means. My gaming preferences shift with the seasons, depending on new releases. I've been focused on PC gaming for most of this year, but the Switch interrupted that for the summer. I'll return to the PS5 when MGS Delta drops and so on.

Despite having several, I've never been much of a handheld gamer, and despite loving PC gaming, I'm already on my PC for 8-10 hours a day for work and more for other hobbies.

Because of this, I've been limiting myself to the PS5 for the most part and I've gotta say, it's made me happier for it. It's become my designated game machine and I can disconnect from work, don't have to fret over frames and temps and I can't be distracted by a browser and Discord and Teams and al that.
This is basically me. I already spend most of my waking hours in front of a computer screen. When I want to kick back, I find it better to just pick up a DualSense on the couch and get back to where I was (rest mode rocks, I very seldom do multiplayer). Could I build/afford a gaming PC? Sure. I just have no desire to do so.

Having said that, a Steam Deck is nice for the occasional travel.

100%. The rest mode is SO nice. Sounds obvious, but years later I'm still so thankful for it. I can be playing where I was 10 seconds after deciding to do so. Nearly zero friction though I do wish it had the multi-game version a la Xbox.

Steam Deck is a killer compliment to the PS5. I don't have a good reason not to use it, but I need to start doing so more. I play a good amount of games that are perfectly suited to it.

This is one reason why I got a gaming laptop to treat like a plug and play game console completely segregated from the rest of the PC world. I consolidated everything on that and Switch.

There are no other apps or distractions, even saved passwords on there that would get me into anything else that I should be doing "other than gaming". It's just a taskbar of launchers. Meanwhile my old gaming desktop has 30 tabs open and a server.

Now I agree consoles have a magic and sometimes you want to skip a little of the friction PC throws you. I just get enough of that from Switch. I can use it while figuring out the next texture pack problem or waiting on the next 100GB update.

That said I must admit Sony has a compelling console that will self-impose that focus on gaming. It's a box that plays games with no nonsense, and it has a lot of them. Not much else to say.

PS5/Switch is a great combination. I'm pretty much covered. I use a Macintosh for all actual computer stuff and don't expect apple to support games in a meaningful way.

As platforms become more homogeneous with their games library, there is less reason to own or use more than one. Other than not having nintendo games, ps5 basically does everything and then some. Can even sort of use it portably via remote play. And it is surprisingly good as a streaming device in addition to 4k blu ray.
