In my review, I praised the PSVR 2’s high-res displays, simple setup, and built-in haptic feedback in both the headset and controllers, among many things. The hardware is excellent, but my takeaway was that Sony needs more exclusive games for PSVR 2 other than ports of existing titles on headsets like Meta’s Quest 2 / Quest Pro.
And I was right. Yesterday, Sony revealed the full list of “launch window” games coming to the PSVR 2... and Meta conveniently pointed out to me that the majority of the games are already on Quest headsets — 42 out of 49 to be exact. That works out to 85 percent, which is a lot!

PSVR 2 LAUNCH WINDOW GAMES​

Below is the full lineup of PSVR 2 launch window games. I’ve highlighted the five games that are exclusive to PSVR 2 and not available on Quest or rival headsets.

FEWER PORTS, MORE EXCLUSIVE GAMES​


The number of Quest ports really drives home my point that Sony needs to attract developers to create exclusive titles for the PSVR 2. To justify the hefty $550 price (on top of a PS5 if you don’t already own one), there need to be games that make the hardware worth the money. High-res displays and eye-tracking are nice, but can only do so much to sell a pricey accessory.

For Meta, Sony’s port-filled lineup is a strength: why buy a PSVR 2 when you can get a Quest 2 that’s completely standalone and wireless for less?

The PSVR 2 isn’t the first gaming hardware to lack exclusive games that make it a must-buy. The Xbox Series X had the same issue at launch and post-launch, which is one reason why the PlayStation 5 leapfrogged it. Games — especially exclusive ones — sell hardware.

This game list is just for the PSVR 2 launch window. If Sony’s really committed to making PSVR 2 The Best VR Gaming Platform, it’s gotta open up its wallet and bring out the exclusives. And not just a handful of big ones a year — there needs to be wave after wave of VR-first games that make players come back for more. I know VR games add more to development time, but a big publisher like Capcom announcing on PSVR 2 launch day that it’s just “begun development” on Resident Evil 4’s VR mode feels insulting.


Basically the complaint here is that only 5 out of 49 games are PSVR2 exclusive, and the journalist believes that's not enough to justify the price of PSVR2 (and also PS5 if a person doesn't already have one), and also decided to take a shot at Microsoft as well by comparing it to the launch of the Xbox Series, which he mistakenly called the Xbox Series X, which is only one part of the family. Though it does show X is on many peoples minds, Xbox they should fix those production issues.

Anyway, there is some validity to the concern partially. Yes the launch is overloaded with ports but those ports are enhanced. So while the author does bring up the fact playing these on the Quest 2 would be cheaper and more accessible via wireless, it's also true almost every port looks better on PSVR2, and some ports are said to have some additions specifically for PSVR2.

I do agree there needs to be more investment in non-shared games, but Sony needs to test the waters and see how software sales first before they commit to putting in that much money for a consistent stream of games the way the journalist wants. I think the first month will give us a hint to how solid Sony's commitment is to PSVR2.

i have a quest 2 and rift + psvr 1 nothing beats the simplicity of the psvr2 .. looks better plays better
also many games have exclusive extras, like the dual sense rumble and eyetracking like REZ.

It's an article that doesn't make any sense.
How many exclusives do they want at launch? 10? 15? That is a thing that is never going to happen with any platform given the cross gen and multiplatform nature of most games today.
Also the price must not be justified by the exclusives, who do they think the target market is?
It's not PC users, it's PlayStation users.
What alternatives do PlayStation users have?The stone age PSVR?
Building a PC and then buying an headset with less value than PSVR2?
It's nonsense imo.
This does not mean that I believe that the PSVR2 price is mass market or that Sony will make VR their priority. It won't, it will be a really cool high tech side project which thanks to the already established VR market on PC will enjoy easy support from third party developers.

Pretty on point here. Locking up exclusives shouldn't break the bank since the VR market is so tiny. The bigger issue here is likely the lack of compelling software that's worth paying for exclusivity.

Sony knows PSVR2 is going to be niche. They are not going to allocate resources to PSVR2 when they'd rather focus on getting exclusive games for PS5.
 
The big issue for me is that the majority of first-gen VR games (and I consider Quest games to be in that category) were more like tech demos than good experiences. They're a novelty for a short time (seriously, a lot of them will take you maybe 2 or 3 hours to beat to completion), if you've never experienced VR before. But once you make your way through the available offerings, the lack of quality content starts to become really obvious. You know how mobile phones have 1000s of games just like Candy Crush clogging up the store? Well, it feels kind of the same with VR content. There's a lot of VR "snacks" to try, but they all taste the same, and if you want a full meal, you're going to be starving.
 
Oh god they really hate the PSVR2 some of this so called journalist, i would understand it if there was nothing to do and they needed to get some clicks but god damn this month is full of so many good games that you physically can't play them all if you arent jobless and the train does not stop. But they still want to make articles with stupid claims.

Shocked that Crytek's The Climb games weren't launch titles, especially with the praise that the climbing in Horizon is getting. Those are getting ported for sure.

And how the fuck wasn't Population One not ported?

What? I have a bunch of VR games installed. Some of them from other platforms but GT7, RE8 and Horizon aren’t available anywhere else.

Complaining because they can. Most people buying the headset are doing so because they want to play most of those third party games in much higher fidelity.

I’ve come across a bunch of people playing Pavlov today that have said they came from the Quest version and how much better it is on PSVR2.
 
Those playstation folks always vomiting "we need more exclusives" to justify their console/accessories choice.


Those games are fine if you really want to play VR... Specially if you're one of those that keep saying "I prefer to play on consoles because it's simpler"

I agree which is why I won't be buying one until this changes.

GT7 and Resident Evil aren't enough, especially from the perspective of someone who has a PC compatible VR headset. All the worthwhile sim racing titles are VR compatible and there are some excellent VR mods for the RE titles.

Sony need to do more, what's on offer now isn't enough.

It is a major problem for them. Its fine if you don't have any knowledge of vr and you're willing to buy yourself into sonys walled garden for vr but the reality is this headset needs PC support ASAP and Sony needs to put their money where their tech is to make this work.

Just like the series x the hardware is amazing but lackluster software support will leave it dead in the water with low sales.

If you've been playing on quest for awhile, you may have played many of these games. If you played them all, then yes of course that makes another headset less enticing. Then the only reason to consider psvr2 is for the massive hardware upgrade.

Like is he in agreement with the emailer? Or sad that someone emailed him that?

And I wonder if people know that most of these games that were on the MetaQuest have received upgrades and are Remasters. It's what happened with the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. They got many last gen games at launch, but at a better quality. Most people seemed to think that was good.

lol, no. Putting this headset on PC would make the headset less attractive, as the devs then have to code for more hardware than just a PS5.

This headset has been out a day. It's a little early to start the concern over how well Sony VR is doing.

funny how there was no concern for PSVR, which was a mid-range headset at the time and had 0 support as it was Sony's first venture into VR
 
I didn't read.

For a lot of people this will be their first VR headset and it doesn't matter if many of the games available here are also on the Quest 2 or PC VR. And to be fair, launch window games for all systems generally blow. If the PS5 and Series X weren't back compat it would have been such a shit show.

Nothing beats the simplicity of PSVR2? Eh? What you mean, it's more simple to have to buy a PS5 and connect a cable than it is to be able to take a Quest 2 on vacation and play in my damn hotel room with no wires? Power-wise there's no comparison, but simplicity-wise there's no comparison, either.

Uh if you think plugging ina a USB cable is complicated then charging a battery must be equally so. They are both totally turn key unless you are hooking the quest up to a PC.

Hate to say it but it's not for you. It's for those who only does consoles and did not trust Facebook. There is actually a sizable amount of people like that based on that intersection. My brother in law and his friends sent back their headsets when they realized they needed a Facebook account. Sure it's fixed now but they don't care.
