Xbox has the games. Sony has the sales. How???

Let's not act like Microsoft has been putting out GOTY. Avowed getting a 79 metacritic score is hardly cause to throw a parade. Especially now that "Xbox" is just another PlayStation publisher.

Because the vast majority of people dont buy consoles because of the games. They buy what their friends have. While it is possible to get a significant amount of new people with a new gen. Mid gen it's not gonna happen. Ps5 would keep outselling xbox even if they had zero exclusives for the rest of the gen.

When comparing 1st parties, yes, Xbox has the better games this gen. However you then have to take into account games like Demon's Souls, Stellar Blade, Final Fantasy, etc. that were published by Sony or moneyhatted for exclusivity. You then couple in that Sony won the digital library generation (PS4) and that most the top games in general are all 3rd party multiplat games, you just give people a reason to stick with Sony. Sony 1st parties leave a lot to be desired this gen so far, but Microsoft hasn't made a compelling reason for gamers to ditch their digital library and move to Xbox.

The scores have been inflated, and the actual games have been mid or outright bad. Even if you think Indiana Jones is a W, it's not a genuine high 80s game, let alone a 90.

Because you gaslighted yourself into thinking that Sony only released Concord in the last year.

The thread should have been closed immediately after this comment because nothing more needs to be said.

OP's post completely ignores an entire year of GOTY candidates on PlayStation. What Xbox game last year was GOTY worthy? Pretty much only Indiana Jones, which came out too late for the awards season. Hellblade 2, Starfield Shattered Space, and STALKER 2 came and went; After about a week no one was talking about them anymore.

Xbox only "has the games" because they spent $80 billion on multiplatform developers/publishers only to realize they have no choice but to keep them as multiplatform if they ever want to recover their investment.

If only Playstation released a game that would go on to win GoTY at The Game Awards. Or one of the most popular action games of 2024. Or one of the most popular RPGs of 2024. Or one of the most popular Online Live Service games of 2024.

If only......

Xbox has games but 90 percent of them are swimming in 7s and are just dumped to GP as filler.

Games like Indy are a rare breed in Xbox portfolio.

Simple. Kinect. When Kinect became a hit, MS lost its fucking mind and thought it was the future of gaming. They stopped focusing on putting out bangers for the last couple of years for 360, and instead focused on Kinect shovelware.

They thought it was going to be such a big thing that they built the Xbox One around it, even sacrificing HW power to lower the price, since every XBO was going to come with the Kinect 2.0. They also had their head so far up their asses, they thought their draconian DRM policies would fly when there was another competitor in the market. It was embodiment of the meme of the guy celebrating like he won, when he only came in 3rd.

So what did they do to fix their situation? Did they do what Sony did when they stumbled with the PS3? Shut up, put their nose to the grindstone and pump out great games, letting the games do the talking? Nope. They continued to embody that meme, talking even louder. They worried more about pumping up their shills than they did pumping out great games, instead releasing mostly mediocre games. They lost a very important generation, as that was the one that saw the great expansion of digital libraries. Libraries that would carry over to next gen.

So, with a new generation coming, they must have learned their lesson, right? Nope. Again, they had their heads so far up their fucking asses they kept the talking going, even louder this time, and thought the 12>10 talking point would carry them through. It was still evident that they had no idea how to make a good game considering the state they were going to launch Halo, their largest franchise, in. Looking like a 360 remaster. So they launched a brand new console without a single big exclusive, and didn't get a major one for months.

Then, they bought a couple big publishers thinking it would make their console the hottest shit, only for the cost of running said publishers forcing them to go 3rd party to keep themselves profitable. MS/Xbox, like Sega, had only themselves to blame for how things turned out.

TL;DR

This has basically been Xbox's strategy....

Even if this were true, and it's not, this is what happens when you go multiplatform.

Avowed is yet another crappy MS game that will get overrated by the simps like Colt.

Are you aware 1st party games are coming out on PS5, right? Last year, Astro Bot was the GOTY for several places. Helldivers 2 was one of the biggest MP games too.

OP, did Jigglepuff draw a lobotomy on your head or something?

Xbox has been killing it with 1st party titles in the last year but HW sales have gone down.
Sony had Concord and somehow it's destroying Xbox in HW sales.

How is the even legal?
Sony had better first & third party games for years, plus Sony always has something worth the GOTY, while Xbox don't.
Also, Xbox acquired publishers that used to publish and sell more on Playstation,

I disagree that Sony does not have games. 1st party is nice and all but what really sells consoles is exclusives and content. People whine that Sony money hats and then they ignore it when they want to say Sony has no games.

Sony weakening last year and sputtering out this year...isn't going to kill their momentum over night, especially when Microsoft is porting all their games over.

Sony became the default multi-plat console because their exclusives were better early in the gen with equivalent horsepower, and they'll ride this for the rest of the gen even if they fuck up this year + the next.

I'm more interested in seeing that since graphics have hit huge diminished returns if the Switch 2 doesn't pick up more marketshare for third-party games.

2024
- Call of Duty is on PlayStation.
- Indiana Jones wasn't a hit
- No one cared about Hellblade 2
2023
- Starfield wasn't a massive hit
- Hi-Fi Rush was a super niche title
- No one cared about Forza Motosports
- Diablo is also on PlayStation
2022
- Overwatc2 is also on PlayStation
2021
- Forza Motosports 5 was the best game. Generated players faster than Starfield and it sold well on Steam and Xbox
- Halo Infinite couldn't maintain its momentum after launch.

2025 & Beyond
Avowed, Doom, Fable, Gears, Perfect Dark, Outer Worlds 2, and State of Decay 3.

Xbox didn't have a strong lineup for the past 7-8 years and now they're bringing their games over to PlayStation.

So what's the major selling point for Xbox if all their games are being released on PlayStation? Game Pass and this it?

I mean

Look back to when the series X and S came out

There was nothing for a few years

Whereas Sony had first party titles

They're riding momentum waves now and still shooting out first party titles and benefited from timed exclusives

Look at the top 20 best sellers in the US for 2024 below. How many games there can you not play on PlayStation? I see at least three not on Xbox.

Xbox decided to do everything but make games for like 7 years. Too little too late now.
Not even...it's brand power, sony is the apple of gaming, people (casuals) buy because its the popular "safe" brand or default you can say, this gen is literally a perfect example of that when you look at the lineups

Xbox would need a literal exclusive madden, 2k, fortnight, or cod to recover, but as long as both consoles can play these games ps will always sell more by default.

Well, for me, it's because I can play them all on my more powerful PC. I gave my Series X to my daughter. No exclusives and they are working on erasing even console exclusives now. Idk what they have in store for the next Xbox, but if nothing changes, it will sell even less than the Series consoles.

Playstation has enormous brand recognition. And Sony's core pillar, since the beginning, is to have all the big third party stuff on the console. The mass market does not buy a Playstation for Sony's first-party stuff. They just need to ensure that Call of Duty, Fortnite and Fifa/Madden are on the platform and the occasional blockbusters like Elden Ring or GTA 6.

Because the vast majority of people dont buy consoles because of the games. They buy what their friends have. While it is possible to get a significant amount of new people with a new gen. Yup. Xbox permanently lost the console war last gen. When most people started to build their digital libraries. Phil Spencer admitted this.
