:OSo iTunes match is live in canada. I signed up for this year and its scanning my library now.
I knew Apple would be international ahead of Google and Amazon. They already got relationships in place from years of having stores open outside the States.
Is there an iTunes match trial? I'm tempted to try it but don't want to be suckered for $27.
LCFiner, is iTunes showing app updates for you after iTunes Match went live today? Mine keeps insisting there are no updates available for me when I had like 50 updates waiting to be downloaded this morning.
Got iTunes Match after the UK release, it's pretty awesome and finally I can access my whole music collection on the phone. I've looked at some FAQs online and tutorial videos but still have a few questions.
How do I actually replace a track with a matched better quality one? Has it already done so?
I'm having a problem on the phone where certain albums will not display album art, how can I fix this?
regarding replacing a track on your computer: in itunes, create a smart playlist with the settings of bitrate < 256 AND icloud status = matched.
then, select all (or some, if you're squeamish) of the files, hit alt-delete, to delete them from your library (but don't delete them from icloud). then, a download icon will appear next to the file in the icloud icon column. select all and download.
regarding cover art missing on the iphone. I am seeing this too. its still a little buggy and I can't find any way to force cover art to show for each track.
yeah, so after a couple more turns around analyzing my library, there are 250 songs that it encounters errors when trying to match or upload. some of them are songs I know are in iTunes and some are not but it cant upload them. its the same songs no matter what.
Im gonna check out some common iTunes match errors online to see if theres anything I can do on my end. Its kind of annoying I cant force the issue and say upload, dammit!
Some songs arent eligible for iTunes Match, but there is a workaround
iTunes Match wont match very short songs, and it wont match songs encoded with very low bit-rates. I found about 20 tracks in my library that were encoded at laughably low rates; each was marked Not Eligible. (You can find your tracks that iTunes Match wont match by creating a Smart Playlist where iCloud Status is Ineligible and Media Kind is Music.) We havent found any tricks to start getting iTunes Match to match songs that are shorter than five secondsthough luckily there arent too many of those. We did, however, come across a workaround for getting the service to match poorly-encoded tunes.
Re-encoding songs with lower bit-rates makes them suddenly eligible for iTunes Match matching.
Control-click (or right-click) on the offending song(s) in question, and choose Create AAC Version from the contextual menu that appears. (If youve tweaked iTuness importing settings, that option may read differently; verify your settings in Preferences -> General -> Import Settings.) iTunes will re-encode the selected tracks with a higher bit-rate. This alone wont improve the quality of the song: Its a bit like using your DSLR camera to take a photograph of a Polaroid picture. But iTunes Match will look at the new track and see a better bit-rate, and will then make the converted track eligible for matching.
Control-click the new version of the track, choose Add to iCloud, and then delete the older version. (Then, of course, use Jason Snells method for downloading Apples 256-kbps version of the song.)
I read a tip on Macworld that might help you.

So I'm looking to upgrade to iOS 5 on my old iPos (third gen; A1318 iirc) touch, it's compatible, right? I was looking through some torrents to get the raw file, but only find 4g iPod touches.
If it is compatible, can someone find me a direct link download to iOS 5/5.01 or whatever, since my search skills turned up nothing.
Thanks, I downloaded this "iPod3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore" a long while ago, and it's telling me it's not for this device. Just found out I DLed the 4th gen iOS 5.

It works as advertised, so if that appeals to you then it's worth it.So iTunes Match....worth it?
So iTunes Match....worth it?
Ok, I'm at this stage in the process, how do I actually do it? Do I have to manually delete each song and re-add it? I found all the advanced tips, but can't find the remedial ones, Lol.
iTunes menu > store > update iTunes match.
just like if you were to manually update genius results.
When I do that, nothing changes.
try turning off iTunes match for the computer and turning it back on.
if you do this a couple times and there are still files stuck at either the waiting or error iCloud status, then try the AIFF conversion and then try again.
Im replacing 100 or so albums of shitty 128kbps MP3s with proper iTunes copies for $25. And my entire collection is now available wherever I go. So for me, yeah, it's worth it.
No, there's no drm. You can keep the higher quality songs even if match expires. This isn't a one off cost is it, you have to continue to pay for that (and any associated storage over the initial 5GB) on a yearly basis if you want access to the music?
I really need to look into this properly.

It can be one off if you want. You keep anything you downloaded if you cancel. The $25 each year is to maintain access to the cloud copies.
So yes, you could pay the $25, replace your music with legal DRM free copies, and cancel.
Thanks. And the *only* stuff that counts against the 5GB storage is music that doesn't already exist in the cloud? Might actually look into paying up on this, allows me to continue to buy hard copies (and archive them in FLAC format) and easy access from all devices.![]()
iTunes Match is somewhat awesome because all my music is in the iCloud. But it is also annoying when it comes to displaying album artwork.
And the biggest thing is practically all of my explicit albums are now clean. Apparently iTunes Match can't decided whether you have a explicit version or clean. So it randomly chooses a version. It's annoying as fuck too. They need to fix this.
I've disabled it as well, shit is annoying.ouch. that sounds awful.
I gotta say, I can't remember a time when Apple has put out so many services and updates all at once which feel so unfinished. I mean, yes, itunes match works but it's buggy in all the user facing areas that Apple usually waits to get right.
edit: I've actualy turned off itunes match on the iphone as the album art and non-working genius issues bugged me too much.

Anyone?I have a stupid question.
My uncle has been stuck in Asia since the summer, and he wants to update his iPhone 4 to iOS 5. But his main iTunes account with all of his songs, videos, etc. is on his desktop in the U.S., and if he connects his phone to a computer in Asia in order to download iOS 5, he'll lose all of the stuff on his phone. Is there any way to transfer the contents of his phone to a new computer so that he can download iOS 5 without losing anything on his phone?
You mean like when they released Mobile Me? Or Ping?
iTunes Match has some issues, no doubt, but the base of what they're offering is sound.
One thing I've noticed is that shuffling all songs on the iPhone shuffles everything, including stuff only in the cloud. Works fine if you leave it alone, but gets laggy if you start skipping around on 3G. I assume its pre-caching the next song, if need be. I need to prune more crap out of my library, that's for sure. lol.
So my dad's using iCloud for contacts and every contact he's added in the past few weeks has vanished. Wasn't even in his backup or control panel and there's no way to get them back from what I can tell. Has this happened to anyone else?
The bit rate is too low (below 96kbps).Additionally, a small number of songs are listed as completely ineligible for iTunes Match: "Darwin" off Third Eye Blind's Blue album (20:50 long--could track length be the cause?), "Waiting for VVVVVV", a 56 second song off the VVVVVV soundtrack, and the entire Sigur Ros () album, as well as "Wish You Were Here" by Incubus off Morning View. And that's it. I wish I understood why they were "ineligible".
