Well that's nice.LCfiner said:the nice thing about newstand (and you could make the argument that iOS should have had this for a while) is that it allows for background downloading of items without user action. no need to get a notification, then open the app, then wait for 200 MB to download and process before reading.
more than just the pretty shelves, this is the killer feature that makes reading more care-free.
I don't find the adobe apps to be slow (nat geo, wired, etc) when i browse but i do hope that they will move away from static images to allow for selectable text, smaller file sizes and voice over capability.
In order to use iMessage, you need to either be on wifi or 3G. Could that be the problem?timnich said:iOS 5 has been a frustrating mess to me so far. So many things not working as they should. First off, i have installed the GM on a couple of friends phones so that we could use iMessage rather then text. Half the phones refused to activate, and the ones that did activate refuse to send the message when in iMessage "mode". I know I set everything right; you just turn on iMessage in the settings app. Not working.
Next, the notification system. I have facebook, mail, twitter and appshopper set up to appear in the notification center. Only mail works. I've tried everything to get the others working but with no luck. So Notification Center is pretty useless to me at the moment.
iCloud. This works pretty well, and I REALLY like the fact that you can redownload purchased music. I got back so many songs I thought were lost forever. The only thing not working is Find My iPhone. I have it set up properly, but my phone always appears as offline. It has never found my phone, the send message to phone has never worked, nothing, nada.
And lastly, Newstand. Granted, this only really came out this morning and make fix itself over the course of the day. Apart from the crappy selection Canada gets, it appears the folder itself doesn't work as it should. I download a couple magazines from the Newstand section of the store to test it out, and they refuse to show up in the Newstand folder. So it's kinda useless..
I've restored my phone and reinstalled the GM to no avail. I'll try installing the public release to see if it helps, but as they are the same build I don't see anything changing. Such a disappointment.
This is ol- oh wait. They did another one?Live Free or Die said:

I know for a fact I had those turned on for both devices when testing. I've only had one message successfully go through iMessage, the rest refuse to send.snack said:In order to use iMessage, you need to either be on wifi or 3G. Could that be the problem?

For sure. Next time I might even wait a week or 2 after release so that major issues get ironed out. As for other peoples' phones, it was at their request and only after a warning that it might not work.teamaxe said:My advice is that next time, wait for Apple to release it before you update your phone and other peoples' phones.
Ack, that sucks. It's the one thing I envy on Android.teamaxe said:4S only. Siri and dictation use the same server-side technology.

I dunno how to do this, but I'd love to share my Photo Stream folder with my Dads computer. Because I'm across the globe, it would be cool if he got my photos automatically instead of having me send them individually. Dunno if iCloud allows that tho.AbsoluteZero said:The problem with Photo Stream is that I regularly upload my videos from my iPhone to iPhoto, so there's gonna be alot of duplicates in the mix.

iPhoto has a 'Deselect Duplicates' feature like Aperture, right?AbsoluteZero said:The problem with Photo Stream is that I regularly upload my videos from my iPhone to iPhoto, so there's gonna be alot of duplicates in the mix.
I think if he installs the iCloud control panel and signs in using your iCloud account should work fine.Majine said:I dunno how to do this, but I'd love to share my Photo Stream folder with my Dads computer. Knowing him, he probably wants his own id attached to iCloud aswell tho.Epix said:I think if he installs the iCloud control panel and signs in using your iCloud account should work fine.
