iOS Gaming June 2015 | The future is now

Could use some recommendations for my parents .. They got hooked on a game called Languinis, which is a match 3 game that reveals letter tiles and then you have to achieve objects spelling words by using those tiles. The problem is they ran out of levels to play so I was wondering if there are any other games like this that I could tell them about?

Of course, there's Threes which is probably the most well known and easy to understand number game. There are a ton of word games like Spelltower and W.E.L.D.E.R.

A little more complex matching game is BlastBall MAX.

A fun and challenging memorization game is Rules!

Hope those help.

Not sure of any games like Languinis, but Spelltower and W.E.L.D.E.R. are great letter matching games.

Guys I am thinking about getting a pad for iOS to play World of Tanks Blitz more comfortable. I've been looking at the Mad Catz CTRLi Mobile, is there something better I should be looking out for?

Thank you. I'll pass the word on to them.

If you're jailbroken, you can get an app that allows a PS3, PS4, Wii U Pro or any number of other bluetooth controllers hook up to an iOS device as an MFi controller. Hell, I play Geometry Wars 3 on my iPad Mini Retina with a Dualshock 3.

Yeah. Not going to happen.

What is funny about TA's desperate plea for financial support is that a bunch of people who even made the slightest negative remark about a poorly designed F2P system (even wording it to show that there are still good ways to do F2P) were banned for such minor infractions.

Now, TA is not getting the advertising support they need because many of those lucrative F2P companies have now moved towards user acquisition campaigns over advertising (at least on the web). So they may be done in by the very companies they tried to "protect" with gag orders and mass bans.

Oh well, I'm quite content here where there is freedom of speech and anyone can clearly see that I am not completely irrational when it comes to freemium (Blood Ire is a recent example that I have supported financially despite its F2P model). I judge every game - premium or otherwise - on their own merits. So life will go on with or without TA.

Just read about a game called Silver Bullet: The Prometheus coming out his week that looks very promising. Being termed a "tactical action stealth" game.

http://www.droidgamers.com/index.ph...y-this-week-with-silver-bullet-the-prometheus

Link is from Droid Gamers but it's also coming out on iOS.

Looks good, will DL and take a look tomorrow.

Game is out on both platforms.

Played up until the first boss. Levels are fairly short. Controls are a bit different than a standard dual-stick shooter. You can either tap an enemy to target or it will auto target as you move around. Takes a bit of getting used to, but I also don't see any option to turn off the auto-targeting.

The game is a little rough around the edges with some English translation issues, but not horrible. Looks nice graphically aside from animations for the lead character being a little wonky.

All that said it's a pretty solid game with a very Japanese monster movie / anime feel (the game itself is Korean). The Droid Gamers article referenced a Perfect Dark influence on the main character and that's pretty accurate.

Only real complaint so far is it being on the easy side. And while I have "leveled up", I haven't figured out quite what that actually did. On the main menu there are circles on things like damage, max hp, accuracy, etc. Apparently demon souls are required for upgrades and I don't have any.

Anxious to see where the game goes and if it gets more challenging as well as when the upgrade system kicks in.

Will post more imps when I get a chance to play more.

Hey all,

After 5 long years we're finally there - Heroki will soon be available on the App Store and I wanted to share this new trailer with you:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-e9SNkk7lM

Hope you'll enjoy it! :)

/shameless self-promotion

Nice!
Hope you'll see some success on the Appstore!

From Toucharcade:
Sega's trying a $7.99 premium release with Heroki, a platformer developed by Picomy over the last 5 years, and finally coming to iOS this year.

On the fence with this one. I have so many tactical turn-based shooters that have gone unfinished, including X-Com, Breach & Clear, Call of Duty Assault Team and Frozen Synapse (the latter of which I had trouble getting into at all).

I like the genre but something always pulls me away.

Anything different about this one that may be more addicting to keep me playing?
It's my favorite tactical game. Actually it was my first PC game purchase back in 2013. $5 is an insane deal, the PC game is $20, and the amount of content is just huge.

6 themed campaigns, with more to come. 80 single missions. A scenario editor for endless challenges. Skill trees, squad classes, and customizable loadouts. A simple control scheme that always felt like it was better suited for mobile.

And way more tactical depth than Frozen Synapse and Breach and Clear. FS provides more complexity, but Door Kickers provides more "real" tactics. You can split your team between a stealth and assault force, stack up on doors, use flash bangs or breaching charges, set up go codes and simultaneous breaches, use non-lethal tactics. You're rescuing hostages, performing drug raids, and taking down terrorists and cartel gangs.

The game is fantastic

Thanks. Less complexity than Frozen Synapse is actually a plus for me.

Now just to decide between this and Her Story. Leaning towards Her Story just for something completely different...if I can figure out how to get enough space for it.

Do you know if the $4.99 for Door Kickers is a launch price?

Edit: also saw on TA that some "super secret" premium game is coming tonight. Maybe I should wait to see what it is. Anyone have the inside scoop on what it might be?

As a matter of fact I never managed to get into Frozen Synapse either, despite having tried several times both the SP campaign and Multiplayer.
I always felt incredibly dumb.

I'm pretty packed right now regarding TBS anyway :)

After what I'm doing right now I'll get This War of Mine, then Transistor, then I'll play (hopefully) Omega, then Galactic Keep then possibly Banner Saga 2.

Glorious year for TBS.

I'm going to bet on Kotor II.

not sure how anyone could finish Sword and Sworcery without looking at a guide. Just the whole moon phase thing after getting the first trigon seems like the sort of nonsense that would have the average person looking for answers online. I would've never guessed to
change the moon phase and then go back into the dream world.

Monument Valley Is Bringing Ida’s Dream To All Platforms Free On June 25

Nice, didn't expect that. I never got around to buying the expansion.

wonder if the huge backlash they got for not making it free got to them. It's only going to encourage the same shitty behavior in the future but, hey, i'm no businessman

Fuu

Formerly Alaluef (not Aladuf)
Ida's Dream is the mini-expansion (just one level, albeit a longish one) that they did as part of a charity thing.
Ah right, I got it confused with the the other expansion, which is actually called Forgotten Shores.

Yeah I thought it had something to do with the backlash too, but since it's just the charity level going free then it's indeed better and won't set a bad precedent. It was pretty silly how people reacted to the DLC back then, but I guess that was to be expected since the game got so famous and expectations work differently on mobile.

I read that the save system in the game was real bad. Did they do anything to fix that?

Yes, they did. I believe both the normal and easy modes have more disks. The easy mode also has more computers to save at, which was my main issue.

Still would have preferred just a way to save your current state (still leaving the penalty of dying).

Shmup lovers - Icarus-X: Tides of Fire, which is supposed to also have Rogue-like RPG characteristics is out tonight.

Been waiting for this one so instabuy for me.

Kingdom Rush Origins appears to have gotten a new update with some new content.

Sounds like it includes a new mini-campaign and two new hero characters (I think at least one of them was community created and might be free).

I haven't updated yet since I'm at work (no wifi), but I'll try it out later tonight.

I was initially so put off by the save system due to playing mobile games here and there and not for long periods that I stopped playing it. I have it with the update on my device and plan to get back to it. It is a very well done game. Just too much to play and too little time to play them.

I'd say if you are a survival horror fan, it's definately worth a buy, especially while it is on sale.

I co-sign all of this. Thought I'd love Frozen Synapse but it never clicked. Door Kickers is a 10/10 of what it's trying to accomplish. I hope the controls translate well.
