iOS Gaming October 2015 | Just when you thought your TV was safe from mobile games

There's a ton of Sega and EA games that have been removed from the store.

Most of EA's older titles as far as I know are just delisted from stores but not removed.

Ok. Wasn't sure what kind of list was being put together. For instance, Project 83113 is also still available via download history.

Edit: Oh, crap, I was wrong Project 83113 is no longer in my history. I said that because I literally just downloaded it a few weeks ago. Guess it has a permanent home on my Mini now!

Edit 2: Probably would take a while to go through the EA games, but just looked for Dead Space and it's also gone from my history. So are Mirror's Edge and Flight Control. So sadly, I think the EA games are completely removed.
I'll try make a list of games that have been removed from the store, and not necessarily from your purchase list.

I will appreciate any help.

My word... I know I'm late to the party - only recently gotten back on the iOS bandwagon - but 80 Days is an incredible game. I've just finished playing the sorcery series (up to the end of sorcery 2 anyway) and wanted a slight change of pace, and 80 Days delivers in spades. What an incredibly well written, enjoyable and engaging game - In fact I really can't remember a game that captures the feeling of going on a proper adventure quite as well as this seems to. I'm only 22 days in to my first journey (and already low on cash and not even out of Europe) but it's quite possibly my favourite iOS game so far.

Are there any other games in the choose your own adventure style genre that even come close to being as well put together as this? Aside from the Sorcery series?

Heavy Metal Thunder + sequel Sol Invictus

Not as unique and expansive as those, but well-written with great artwork and has some cool RPG elements

^^ Fantastic puzzler, well worth the 1$ asking price...

And in some Land Sliders related news, their twitter account reached 100 users! :D And as for me, I found the puzzle skull again but only two baddies to lure into the trap... needed a third one to join the party... oh well, next time...
If it helps, I found the other day (by accident) that at least if the game doesn't restart to the splash screen (that's how it was in my scenario at least) it's cumulative. So if you find that same skull thing again, even if you die, you'll have 2/3 done :)

Ps. It's now morning here in Australia, so expect something to happen re that Twitter account any time now (I hope!).

And I'm not even sure that all of the apps being pulled have anything to do with iOS 9.

It is the first major update + new devices since this policy change:

https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=12172014b

As we announced in October, beginning on February 1, 2015 new iOS apps submitted to the App Store must include 64-bit support and be built with the iOS 8 SDK. Beginning June 1, 2015 app updates will also need to follow the same requirements. To enable 64-bit in your project, we recommend using the default Xcode build setting of “Standard architectures” to build a single binary with both 32-bit and 64-bit code.

Do any of you have Final Fantasy VII? How is it on mobile? I really digged Final Fantasy VI on Android and plan to buy it on iOS. But I saw FFVII is here too.

Does it run well on an iPhone 6?

Really excited for Dust. From the TA forums:
! I spent a LONG time perfecting the controls, as I'm really picky about them myself, particularly for platformers. I couldn't be happier with the results
So I expect it to control really well. Which would be very impressive for that kind of game on mobile

I have it. It ran great on my 6+ and continues to perform well on my 6s. The controls seem kind of shoehorned into the game with limited touch interaction outside of the controller template drawn on the screen.

It also features a toggle to turn off random encounters and an option to max your stats. That aside, it's the game you (likely) know and love.

Guys, you'll want to keep an eye out for this one next week

Not actually that important
So if nothing interests me this week I'm thinking of buying some new games. I have $8 in App Store credit and deciding between a mix of these games:

•Altos adventure
•Hopiko
•Geometry Wars 3
•Card Crawl
•Horizon chase
•Race the sun
•Divide by sheep

Horizon Chase for sure.
They're all pretty good (didn't care for AA) but the GeoWars3 port is amazing.

Got myself Final Fantasy VII.

Man it feels good being back to iOS gaming! Besides the obvious removals. I really wanted Jet Set Radio.

I'm confused. What does that have to do with the apps being completely pulled from even download history?

----

I am in need of a gaming break.

I just spent 3 hours trying to get my home network set up for parental controls. My TWELVE YEAR OLD was accessing porn. Jesus Christ. He's so sweet and innocent and I never in a million years thought he'd look at that stuff. I was dead wrong and, yes, it's my fault for not putting in parental controls earlier. I guess I am just as guilty as he is. Kids on the bus apparently got him into it.

Ugghh...

Time to play some games to forget about this. So disturbing.

Damn, that's messed up.

My brother told me what 69 meant when he was in sixth grade (12 years old). With the internet and kids in school, they learn about stuff a lot earlier than you might think. I remember he'd sneak Spartacus on Netflix to check out the sex scenes (he's 13, I'm 23); he'd use my Netflix profile so our parents wouldn't see what he was watching

Yes, it's scary how young kids are learning about this stuff.

BTW, I hope everyone realizes that the 69 in my user name has nothing to do with that act. It's the year I was born.

I read his tweet too, so I'm pretty hopeful!!!

As he is a GAFer...he is certainly welcome to participate in this thread!!!

Hey, sorry been such a busy week, trying to catch up though!

Super excited to have the news of Dust on iOS out there...It's honestly something I've wanted to do for years but didn't want to do it until it was done 'right'. Dust is such a fast game that I wanted the framerate and input to be just right, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I'm half nervous, half excited to see how the controls translated to iOS. Very few mobile games attempt deep hack n slash gameplay

It doesn't look like this, right? :p

I have to say, we've had a pretty nice streak of PC ports with surprisingly good controls (Geometry Wars 3, Don't Starve, Transistor, etc.) so I can't wait to add Dust to my mobile library

Hehe... no, I love Rex Rocket but I think my solution is much more elegant. I'll probably share some actual UI screens shortly.

Yeesh. I can't imagine going through that as a parent.

For the record, I started looking at porn when I was 11. Back in the day where there was not much on the internet besides penis . com and shit like that. By the time I was 14, it was a completely different ballgame.

Just saying, kids will be kids and they'll start seeking that stuff out way, way, way, way before you are ever prepared and they will go way, way, way, way out of their and your way to get at it. So don't feel bad.

Woot!
Thanks for coming here and share!!!!

I'm really excited about Dust on iOS...and really hopeful it controls and looks very well.
I know I've really enjoyed past 'similar' games on the platform.

No worries, welcome to the iOS thread :)

My confidence in Dust controls and iOS polish has risen to a max level now, thanks for sharing! Can't wait to get my hands on Dust as soon as it releases.

I bought Final Fantasy VII impulsively last night and it have been great. I'm enjoying that and Tactics. Now I just need to get FFVI that I had on Android.

Does Tactics have a lot of story?

Because I love stories.

Also, Dust were my first Steam game so I can't wait to try it out. Will it release on iPhone as well or only iPad?

If you meant Final Fantasy Tactics...yeah it has a very big and imho utterly awesome story.
Maybe one of the best story I ever experienced...tons of twists till the very end...it has a 'game of thrones' flavor way before game of thrones was popular.
The game is fantastic too.

So I see Ghost Trick is coming back. Capcom are trying to fix the game.

I'll store all of my apps locally from now on.

[edit]
Just bought Final Fantasy VI, This Is Not a Test and 80 Days on a whim. I had 80 Days on Android but want it for my iPhone. It was alright, I'm looking to play it more now.

Any other games one can sugges that have come out this year?

Have you played Lara Croft GO?

No, I'm going through Hitman Go at the moment, so I'm having my eyes on it. :)

Is Dragon Quest VIII worth anything on mobile? I know it is downgraded visually from the PS2 version which I never really started but nothing else has been downgraded right?

No need to worry, Dust plays great on touch. Gesture/swipe-based movement on the left, right action buttons on the right. Super easy to do combos, dodge, counter, etc.

Lol, I don't know why but I had a dream last night that Nintendo's first mobile game would be a Crossy road clone with a super Mario Galaxy skin.
(and it would be an iOS timed exclusive)

why were they removed?

It's not exactly a list of apps, it's a change of policy from Apple.

If a developer decides to remove game from the appstore, you can no longer redownload it through your purchase history.

Previously you could mostly redownload it every time you wanted.

"if [developers] remove their apps from the store, they cannot be redownloaded until the app has been resubmitted to the App Store".

makes it sound like a developer can resubmit the app later.

And even if you backup, it's been reported that IAPs cannot be restored.

huh? i have ever app i've ever purchased stored locally on my Mac, i've never had issues installing a pulled app back on to my phone.

I'm not pleased with this change of policy but it seems that it's temporary while the dev resubmit the app.
So when SE, EA, 2K, Capcom will figure out what's wrong with their apps or process them with the 64bit SDK (like Apple says since 1.5 years ago, tbh) they will probably be back for everyone.

Still sucks if for whatever reason a dev pull his games....then they are gone forever.

We all know that digital purchase and forever aren't concepts that go well together, but to my knowledge it's the first time the problem is such a big issue in the gaming scene....Apple should change this (pulled apps remains in history, even with a big red warning if necessary, and restore purchase should always work).

I think he means that even if you reinstall the game (which you will surely be able to if you have the file in iTunes) some games still require to 'unlock' the levels (because they were maybe free to try and a single unlock opened the whole game).
And the whole restore purchase thing won't work for pulled apps.
