How is everyone taking screen grabs of their phone's screen?

Grrr, I hope this is something that can be fixed via patch(is that possible?).

I literally just got my phone(haven't activated it yet).

I'm not sure if the 4S screen can be considered worse. It's just different. It may be better in some regard.

Also the white doesn't look as sexy as it does in the apple screenshots or even in some reviews on blogs for that matter :(

If I haven't activated or turned on my phone yet, would apple let me exchange it for a black one?
Reverse Gary Whitta!

I think you could exchange... if they had stock.

Got my unlocked 4S delivered a couple hours ago.

Is there a micro-SIM already installed, and I just need to go to the carrier to get it setup on my existing account / number?

Do I need to do any setup on the phone itself prior to that?

Hold Home and Tap the Sleep/Wake button.

Got it and activated it with zero issues. Kudos to Verizon for even providing instructions for syncing your Google contacts to the phone. I'm a happy camper.

Ummm just walked into an AT&T store while down here on work and picked up a new white 32gs from a pretty chick that worked there. I am all set up and going. I don't have any music on it but that's on my old iPhone. I am happy. Upgrading from a 3Gs.. How does Siri work

For a second there I thought that game comparison picture was just a Black iPhone 4S screen vs. White iPhone 4S screen. That would have sucked.

My phone went through a setup.. then said nothing about activation.

It's now usable via WiFi, but says "no service", and iTunes doesn't know the phone number.

This is fucking annoying.
That is very strange.

Did they actually deliver it? Accept the signature and everything?

That's a major fuck-up.
No, they did absolutely nothing it sounds like besides try to call me with an unfamiliar number. The person at fedex I talked to said something about my voicemail not working which was bullshit. They had my address completely wrong and even the Apartment Number was left off.

Now I have to go drive to go pick up a delivery from a delivery company that can't deliver.

Haha thanks!

Taking a second look at it, it looks a lot better in the light(my kitchen was making it look yellowish thanks to the blinds).

But still I have a feeling it will be distracting playing certain games and like some have suggested, the white border giving a placebo effect of not having as bright of a screen as the black iphone.

Same here. I'm in SF and can't get it activated. Oh well, I'll try again later.

Been trying over cell data, but I might try using my firm's wi-fi. If not, I'll try once I get home to the East Bay later today.

What's the process for activating the Verizon iPhone? On-phone, dialing a number, or through iTunes?
My wife just took it out of the box, did the new phone setup steps on the phone itself and it's activated and working.

Shit was magical.

Just got mine activated on SERO Premium ($50 a month). I'd upgraded from SERO $30 to the $40 plan last week. DO NOT waste your time with the reps on the phone. They know nothing. Just do it via chat on the Sprint site :D

Still not activating. Fuck AT&T how are the ones who have had the iPhone the longest, the ones that fuck up so bad?

It's AT&T, it's to be expected.

On AT&T myself and have been trying to activate for 8 hours now.

n00b question, but how do I transfer all my shit from my 3G? I synced with iTunes but my contacts are empty and the last restore point is from 3:30 today (when I first plugged in the 4S).

Been trying to activate for the last 4 hours. A blend of iTunes and directly on the phone. I even tried calling AT&T and the guy just said that I had to sync through iTunes but Apples servers were down (really?)

I don't miss AT&T one bit. I love my Sprint iphone

It's the same for all carriers. Turn on your phone and follow the prompts. You can activate via WiFi or cell network.

You will answer a few questions, like making sure they have your phone number correct, the billing zip code and last four digits of your social security number.

Took me less than three minutes.

So, sounds from this thread like there are plenty of iPhones in stores.

Odds I can get my Verizon preorder arriving next week changed to a pick-up at the Verizon store?

Slim. Asked an AT&T store employee last week if I could do the same just to be safe and she said nope.

So the girlfriend and I got the the store at 5AM and waited for 3 hours because we had class at 9 and didn't want to risk not getting one. Good call, too. Store got roughly 100 in and there was about 100 people in line at 8PM.

So you can still purchase Applecare+ until Nov. 14th from what I've been told when I spoke to the Apple rep on the phone. Of course their servers were getting gangbanged so he couldn't complete the order. Said to call back in an hour.

Speed test on my iPhone 4, AT&T, here in Austin:

220 ms ping, 0.23mbps down, 0.67mbps up.

Yeah. Speed increases dramatically after midnight when network load is lighter. Is it really worth it to keep a now-throttled grandfathered unlimited plan under those circumstances? Doesn't really feel like it.

.23Mbps...

Brutal. I would probably get rid of that.

Why wouldn't you keep it? Unless you're downloading like 20 gigs a month, your speed won't change or anything, you'll just have a cap. Unless you mean jump to another carrier.

Sounds like you test it frequently? That's really horribly bad.

So my weird non-activated but working 4S at least let's me mess around with Siri.

Pretty cool.. I think I'll use this a lot.. pretty much any time I'd normally type I'll probably use Siri.

Tempted to spend time getting everything organized, getting the music and apps I want on it (I chose to start fresh, and not re-use my 3gs stuff since it's unorganized)...

... but my weird sim problem is leading me to believe either this phone or the SIM is hosed.. and I have a feeling I might be having to re-store the entire phone.

Bleh, finally!

I received my phone at 9:15 this morning and just now got it activated. Yeesh, what a pain in the ass.

On AT&T? How did you get through? iTunes, via the phone itself, or some other means?

To those on AT&T trying to activate via the web..

Is this the error you get?

I have to ask because I'm having the unique scenario where my phone isn't activated but it's letting me use the thing over WiFi.. if I'm getting a weird error I'm going to stop trying, since my phone/sim/account is likely borked somehow anyways.

Anyone?

I was able to activate a few hours ago by phone. I'd been trying a couple times an hour since 9am and all of the sudden it worked.

With "by phone" do you mean you called them and they were able to activate it? Or by trying over and over again on the device.

It's the same story... I've only bought one previous iPhone, but it was the OG at launch day. It took about 30 hours to get my iPhone activated, and some people still had no phone service the following Monday.

AT&T's system is simply not prepared to process so many activation orders so quickly.

So my process through the AT&T store was:

Bought iPhone 4S under sister's line, told them to activate but not activate the SIM.
Came home, called AT&T CS to remove data plan on my sister's line.
Swapped my SIM card into new phone.
Synced up and ready to go.

Took all of maybe 30 minutes.

Why do i not get notifications when using gmail + push? With my @me.com account it just works. I do get the mail, just no notification what so ever.

My phone is 15 minutes away at the UPS warehouse and I gotta wait till Monday. It just missed being put on this mornings delivery truck! :(

Just my luck as usual.
