Threw it at your door? I take it you already signed for it online? O.o

Just to add, for comparison.. Zefah, a Verizon customer, from earlier today, down the street from me (probably a mile away)

According to the Speed Test app, here in North Seattle on Verizon 3G I'm getting:

92ms ping, 2.13Mbps download, and 0.83 Mbps upload.

Does anyone know what Verizon's theoretical maximum download speed is for their 3G connection?

No 3G option in Network or any settings that I can find. I read somewhere that it's always on, but my internet isn't working without wi-fi. And I know 3G works here because my 3G was working fine using it earlier today.

I had this problem after getting my phone setup at the Apple store (ie: no 3G icon, no connectivity, no option in the settings), I ended up having to reboot the device and the 3G icon showed up.

Marty Chinn argues that an iPhone replacement costs $199, while with AppleCare+ the cost would be $99 for 0 replacements, $149 for 1, or $199 for two, and so it's not worth it.

I agree that if those figures are correct, it's not worth it, but I don't think I've ever read that Apple had a flat $199 fee for fixing iPhone problems. They certainly don't here in Canada, and AC+ is not being offered in Canada anyway, so no big deal.

So it's a gamble like all insurance? I've had my iPhone replaced by Apple on good grace for a broken screen once, he said it would've been $199. Theoretically I have to break this thing twice to make use of it? Sounds like any kind of insurance.

Siri: "I'm sorry, I couldn't understand you"

Mom: "Speak louder, I can't hear you!"

Siri: "I'm sorry, would you like me to do a search for 'I can't hear you' in your area?"

Kidding! ;)
That's awesome of you to get one for her. Hope she enjoys the tech.
I appreciate the humor!

I just hope she can handle the awesome!

Wow that is stupid
Probably. But to be fair, iOS has never let the user pick video or photo quality.

If you're desperate you could take photos and video using the front camera... Good luck seeing what you're shooting, though.

That's really weird. If your internet isn't working without wifi you have no phone service (including edge probably). I'd get on that.

What's a good case and screen protector for an iphone 4? I don't want an otterbox, i'd like to keep the cases slim as i don't want a big bulky phone, but the screen protector's imporitant because i keep fucking putting it in my key pocket :lol

It's a bad gamble because, in order for you to make use of it, you pretty much have to know you're going to break your phone 1 to 2 times every cycle. If you go for one cycle without breaking it, you would have been better off paying the $199 fee. Insurance is great when you're paying a small fee that you might not never need but when you do, you come out ahead compared to the replacement costs. AppleCare+ makes it so that you don't because it costs 75% of the replacement cost over a very short duration. I would only get it if you know you're likely to break your phone every cycle. Even if that's the case, maybe you should think of getting a better case instead of breaking expensive electronics so frequently.

This actually fixed it! Thanks.

Ugh, my boss, co-worker and I all ordered around the same time (give or take an hour). My co-worker got her 4S (Verizon), my boss' is shipped and arriving tomorrow, and mine is still in processing. Fuck you AT&T!

How much do one of those bulky protective cases cost? $50+? So it's $50 to hide the beauty of the iPhone 4/S and if that breaks you're out $199. Hell I only had a case on my previous 4 because of Antennagate and the screen broke, granted it wasn't really a protective case. Even breaking the phone once and you're still a $50 winner.

Originally pre-ordered one from verizon.. but it never charged or shipped.. walked into a store and they had plenty! upgraded from OG droid, enjoying it so far

Got my 4S! No thanks to Rogers/Fido online reservation system.

At 2PM after wallowing in pity all morning that I'd never get the phone for days, I decided to just call the store. Huh? They had a bunch just sitting around! So much for online preorders meaning a damn!

Rushed down there and picked it up. Surfing on a bus right now and it's so fast!

Um, which store? :)

Just discovered a cool/annoying feature (since i didnt now how to turn it off lol) if you tripple tap the home button it turns on/off voice overs.

Finally activated my phone, but since my backup was going to take hours, it's basically able to call and text right now.

Once I get home, I'll probably sync with my old 3GS backup from my computer so that it all transfers onto my 4S.

It's so much better than my 3GS, but I still love the old thing. Hopefully my mom will like using it. Otherwise, I'll just keep it as my spare phone.

Can someone go over setting up icloud to download past purchased music without connecting to your computer?

I have the Store setup in place and checked the sync over wifi box but i'm not seeing how we can access our music without connecting directly to computer.
There is a tab in iTunes.app called Purchased.

Voila.

Even if you don't use a case, you most likely lose out. You only win if you know you're most likely to break it once per cycle. How many phones have you had? How many did you break during the cycle. Now multiply the number of cycles you would have paid out $100 minimum that you didn't use compared to the price of replacement. I understand how insurance works, but this is not a good one to invest in.

So my siri just broke. It worked when I first activated the phone. Now anything I say makes it "There is a problem would you like to try again?". Even "What time is it" and the most basic things.

Hah, so awesome. I just got a call from AT&T saying that there has been a delay in the order of my 4S and that it might not show up in time, but they are giving me a $50 credit on my next bill.

Win.

I wonder, since Siri does most of its work through a server, could the server be overloaded with everyone playing with Siri?

And my status order just added "10/13/2011" as the shipping date. My boss just got the same call and his phone is arriving tomorrow. Both of us came out of this like bandits.

Last last phone this Droid X will take! (As my phone, at least).

Guy said to be there at 7, I got to the service center at about 7:03, but they were closed. I knocked on the door, and convinced the lady to let me in, and I got the phone.

We had a good run, Android.

This phone though...BIG upgrade over 3GS.

Agreed completely. My friends with 4s - they so jelly at the moment.

But yeah, this thing is leaps and bounds better than my 3GS... The white is so pretty and the colors don't look washed out to me in the slightest.

I want to set a reminder with Siri like "Remind me to buy beer when I arrive at Harris Teeter." Anyone know how I should set it up? I tried adding the location as a contact and putting it in Reminders, and even adding it as a location under my own contact info, but Siri, she just don't get me.

Is Harris Teeter a place or what? If it is I would assume adding a contact and marking it as 'company' and including the address in the info (and naming it Harris Teeter obviously) would work.

There should be a simpler way, but i'm not a 4S bawler so I wouldn't know for sure.

- make sure you have a compatible sim in there
- make sure your connected to wifi

Okay, so I biked around Austin just now and speedtested a bunch of times... in my building and in the vicinity of my building, downstream is 0.10-0.40mbps. Other side of downtown, 5mbps.

Crap :|

I don't know if I should switch carriers just due to shitty cell data in the direct vicinity of my apartment. Urgh.

For some reason, I can't send an iMessage to my wife. She can send them to me just fine. Maybe the servers are just overloaded...
