Reading some of the posts in the Ice Cream Sandwich/Nexus Galaxy announcement thread greatly reminded me of the damage control that always goes on near the end of a particularly troubled MMORPG's beta. "Don't worry guys, it's still beta!"

Stop taking Copernicus seriously.

So I noticed my phone do it again... While on the charger, from a fully charged state, the battery percentage started dwindling to about 90%, then suddenly started charging itself to capacity. WTF. This can't be normal.

I'd post some screen captures if I knew how to upload from my phone.

no idea about the first thing but for the second thing, you can get an app like "picup" that can upload any pic in your camera roll or photo album to imgur.

How is it possible for someone to send a text and not an imessage? Of course, both users are on ios5.

For those that care, the Browser Mark for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (non-final build) are in compared to iPhone 4s.

Newer build

I think we're getting to the point of unnoticeable though. I mean, is browsing on the iPhone 4 really 3x worse than the 4S?

You mean like this?

And they'll probably change it in the first point update anyway. Not a big deal.

No, we both have it. It's annoying because I want to lower my texting plan, but some of my GF's texts are "texts" and the rest are "imessages". Not sure what's up with that.

She has no data connection at the time she sends the message? It'll automatically convert it to a standard text message in that instance.

I'm looking for a bumper case. Between the official Apple bumper case and the SGP Neo Hybrid case, are there better alternatives?

How can there be no data but have phone service? I'm assuming that's what's happening, maybe data msg is timing out. Is there a way to say to the phone, "send imessage or don't send at all"?

It is possible to have cell network connection with no data.

What carrier are you on?

Cell service and data service are not one and the same, and depending on your location, you might have voice service, but no data connection.

To my knowledge, there is no way to tell iMessage to save up the messages and then send them later when you're back on data.

Turn off sms in settings.

Me? ATT. Her? Verizon.

I now see that I can turn off texting and leave on imessage, but it's not a smart system, i.e., it won't text those who do not have ios5 and imessage those who do. Oh well.

i'm pretty sure on the phone it says "3g" when it's just phone/text service and "3G" when it has data service as well.

Along these same lines, I want to be able to tell siri how to pronounce someones name. Some people I know have names that are spelled one way but sound the other. It makes telling siri to text or call them quite annoying.

Two little-known fields in iPhone contact cards are the Phonetic First and Last Names. Fill them in to help Siri understand your requests better and to keep Siri from mispronouncing the names of your friends and family.

To set a phonetic field just go to a contact’s entry from your iPhone, scroll to the bottom, and tap “Add Field”. From there you’ll find the fields you’re looking for.

What do you mean? That's exactly what it does.

woah...thanks for this!

Got my SwitchEasy Vulcan in. It's not bad for the price.

(The only camera I have is my phone, so excuse the webcam pic:)

I kind of feel like its bulging out on the side, but I think it's just because I'm used to the phone naked.

Only thing is that the has just been HELLA greasy from fingers or something ever since I opened it. Almost seems dirty.

Bumped because I want to know this as well.

Can I make Siri change the way she spells certain names of people? Like if I send a text with the name 'Sara' in it, it types out 'Sarah'. I just want her to drop the 'H'.

I spent a good deal of time in the car today and voice recognition was virtually flawless. feelsgoodman.jpg

This app is magnificent. So simple to use – just seems perfect. Thank you for an excellent recommendation.

That's the same one I ordered. Looks really good on the website - hope it's as good as it looks.

...are you saying it's not form fitting? *is worried*

Thinking of getting a Sprint 4S, are the slow speeds on Sprint really THAT bad?
It is not slow to me at all. The speed tests look bad but I can steam, download and browse with no issues

Been a few years since I looked into this... Is there a legit way to scrobble to last.fm live, aside from jailbreaking?

Doesn't Spotify do this? You need the premium account obviously, but...I'm pretty sure it does.

I assume you mean that it scrobbles when you play your music? No spotify in Canada. But there is an app called iScrob which is an alternative music player which will scrobble like that.

But I really want to just scrobble tracks in the official music app.

CloudScrob is the best non-jailbreak method that I've seen. http://cloudscrob.com/
Cool ! I'll check that out.

It's really too bad that Amazon doesn't have a dedicated iOS app for their MP3 cloud player. The web app works, but a dedicated one would be awesome.

iPhone 4S? Pfft! People still love the 3GS:

AT&T: iPhone 3GS sees sellouts, more new subs than rivals

"AT&T is seeing an unprecedented uptake of the iPhone 3GS after price cuts and just recently going free on contract, the company's wireless head Ralph de la Vega said during a call discussing summer results. There was still "tremendous demand" for the now two-year-old phone to the point where inventory was being sold out. It was also the phone of choice for more new customers than any non-iPhone device."

This makes me sad for some reason. These people aren't poor if they're paying for their smartphone plans, plop down $100 dammit.

Would Apple allow that?

I don't see what grounds on which they would refuse Amazon. You can't make purchases in the Cloud player--it simply plays your content. I don't see how it's any different than Spotify, for example.

Yeah, it's quite sad when you think they are only saving $100-$400 on a contract that will cost them $1500-$2000 or so, for a vastly inferior device.

I'm with you. There shouldn't be a sudden jump in people committing to spending well over $2,000 over 2 years simply because they will save $100 upfront. Welcome to America, where people want to cry about the economy holding them down but think they "deserve" a smart phone.

I get bashed every time I bring this up in this thread for some reason though. Considering the amount of smart phone owners walking around with $100+ / month contracts... vs. wealth and income statistics in this country.. it's just impossible that huge chunks of these people aren't being really irresponsible.

With that said, I probably would have paid $200 for the 3GS if it were made available on one of those pre-paid providers, like Virgin or Boost.

That's awesome - but it's weird that the phonetic spelling shows up right under their name on their contact page. One would think it would be better off in the background.
