I've never seen macro shots that good from a phone before.

seriously.

my Point and Shoot isn't coming out much now. heck, it doesn't even do auto HDR (but it has optical image stabilization)

If i were more serious about photography, the only bigass jump for me would be to get a DSLR. carrying around a dedicated point and shoot now seems like a waste of pocket space.

I'm going to sound stupid, but.... How the hell do you make the pictures look that good? I don't even know how to change the camera's settings. The only picture I've taken so far is of my nephew and it's a blurry mess. :/

Typing from my 4s on Verizon, the connection on downloads seem slow. Overall I'm enjoying it. Coming from a thunderbolt, that was a horrible experience. I like android but I'm ready to try something new, 32 gb white.

I thought iOS 5 safari had tabbed browsing?

That's the same one I ordered. Looks really good on the website - hope it's as good as it looks.

...are you saying it's not form fitting? *is worried*
No, it's definitely a tight fit, I'm just not used to looking at the iPhone with the case on it I guess.

Buy Camera+. Once you load it up, just touch where you want it to focus and turn on the image stabilizer. Once you take the shot, edit it and use the Auto filter to correct the colors and such.

Just broke my iphone 3gs screen after not beating my fruit ninja record of 842, rage

Sorry to here about that. Perhaps it is time for a new phone. If it makes you feel better your 842 is much better than my 490(arcade)

iPhone 4S? Pfft! People still love the 3GS:

AT&T: iPhone 3GS sees sellouts, more new subs than rivals

"AT&T is seeing an unprecedented uptake of the iPhone 3GS after price cuts and just recently going free on contract, the company's wireless head Ralph de la Vega said during a call discussing summer results. There was still "tremendous demand" for the now two-year-old phone to the point where inventory was being sold out. It was also the phone of choice for more new customers than any non-iPhone device."

These people are so shortsighted. The price of a smartphone is nothing compared to the 24 months of $100 phone bills. The iPhone 4 is a vastly superior phone compared to the 3GS. Even people who don't care about tech should get at least the 4.

Who says they're looking for a smartphone at all?

Some people can afford a monthly bill, but not to drop the cash up front. Some want a smart phone but just don't need the best one. It does seem shortsighted to folks like us, for sure. But not everybody has the same needs. For some people, the basic features of the iPhone will be plenty, and as such the 3GS is a good choice since it requires zero up-front cost. I also imagine most of them will not be going over $100/month on bills. If they're the type that only really needs a 3GS, there's a good chance they won't be using lots of data.

Yeah, and that's probably the market Apple is going after with the $0 phone. People that really don't care and simply won't shell any money upfront for a phone. If there wasn't a cheap iPhone they would just go for another brand.

But actually I think that the 3GS is still a great phone. Would be hawt hawt with a retina display, which is truly THE generational leap that the iPhone 4 brought over. The rest is pretty much gravy.

Yeah, I can't imagine there is much of a difference between a feature phone plan and a smartphone plan. 15$ a month? If they went in for a basic phone, and saw they can get an iPhone for free with a slightly larger bill, I imagine many might say 'why not, I'll give one of these smartphone things a shot'. Especially when they are being encouraged to do so by a sales rep. 200$ up front is not much if you are in the market for a smartphone, but is a lot to someone that has no interst in getting one.

I think the 3GS is a bit shortsighted only because I was able to see first hand how quickly the 3G went downhill with Apple's updates. After a year it was almost unusable, and by the time my wife got an upgrade it pretty much literally was unusable.

Still, I suppose if my parents wanted to upgrade phones I'd probably recommend it to them, since they absolutely 100% will NOT pay for a phone upgrade.

To be honest though, most accounts that I've read have stated that the 3GS actually copes very well with iOS 5. It's no iPhone 3G situation.

Right now, sure. I'm not sure I trust it to stay like that. My 3G worked pretty well when I got it, obviously, and then there were a few steps on the road where it got a bit faster, but then it'd just get slower and crappier later.

I was pretty surprised that my 4 got faster with ios5, too. Hopefully Apple can keep on with that. We'll see.

The 3G was done and dusted and slow as fuck by the time it reached 2. I actually bought a 3G second hand in April of last year, thinking that it would do me fine for a year - I was buying an iPhone 4 before July met its maker. The 3GS is older than its predecessor was upon the arrival of iOS 4 and a heck of a lot faster. I suspect that Apple have both learned a lot about optimisation and won't allow future phones to have updates that compromise their functionality unnecessarily.

Got my iPhone today, my battery life is pretty rough. I shut off location services and wifi.

Why do people turn off Wi-Fi? Wouldn't setting it to not ask you to join networks be enough? That way you'd have to manually join any Wi-Fi network and the device wouldn't constantly be searching for one. Surely it's more efficient for the battery to do data transfers over Wi-Fi rather than 3G, right?

Definitely, by miles. If you are in an area with Wifi it would be crazy to use 3G for data unless you just like running down the battery for the sake of it. I can understand turning Wifi off when you're not near a connection, but otherwise...

The data plan says so.

Isn't a smartphone plan way more than a dumbphone phone plan? I don't know. I haven't upgraded my plan in a long while.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a bunch of people getting the 3GS are picking the cheapest possible data plan.

highly doubt they are paying anywhere close to 100 bucks a month. probably closer to 50 or 60 max

Yeah, it's quite sad when you think they are only saving $100-$400 on a contract that will cost them $1500-$2000 or so, for a vastly inferior device.

And no resale value on the phone. Anyone buying a 4 over a 4s is being pretty short-sighted as well

People who get free phones with their plan aren't the same people that sell their phones when they upgrade.

Iphone 4 isn't free though. It's $99 for 8gb if you are upgrade eligible. The extra $100 for a 16gb 4S which can be sold when 5 comes out is more than worth it

So I saw some pics of this, is this something affecting all phones or just a few?
As far as I can tell it affects only a few phones. That said, this also happened during the iPhone 4 launch (not sure about previous launches as I wasn't into smartphones back then).

Supposedly it's an issue with the adhesive used to seal the screen not evaporating before the phone is shipped, but (again, from what I've heard) it's supposed to go away after a while.

Does 3G drain more battery life than wifi?

anyone have the no matches error in itunes? i can browse the store just fine if i *dont* search, but typing in a search will result in no errors regardless of wifi or 3G/1xrtt. using a sprint 4S 64GB...

I have an iPod touch problem that just started on my wife's iPod touch and I figured this might be a good place to ask. Her iPod touch just stopped staying connected to our wireless router. My iPhone, iPad, and anything else can still connect. Her iPod can find our router, but it won't connect to it. I have reset the router and powered it off. I've run out of ideas, anyone have any possible solutions?

Awesome - good to know. Love the look of the iPhone, I just don't want to scratch the back up.
