So I found dust stuck in between the gap of the glass and the bezel, but it's so thin nothing I've used can get it out.

I did have this problem with the 4, but a piece of paper was thin enough to pick it out, now that I've tried the same thing with the 4s I feel like the glass is so tight you can't get anything in there, yet dirt and dust is small enough to get trap.

Is there any other way to clean this problem....

Not sure but that is covered by your warranty so if the dust bothers you it will be swapped no problem at an apple store. Dust got under my iMac screen and old iphone 3g and they swapped it no problem.

Well, I called in Applecare and I guess it's being replaced. Now I need a way to prevent this from happening ever again...

GAF, what's this Traffic option do?

Awesome, I just reserved a 32gb white one at my local Apple store. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.

I think I might pick up an AppleTV too, while I'm at it.

How about the Incipio NGP?

It does not attract any lint. Offers great protection, not plastic. If you have Normal man hands, it offers more coverage so it doesn't feel like it will slip out of your hands.

You can also buy it from Walmart for $20. That way you can be sure you are getting the newer version with the slightly bigger mute button opening.

Awesome, thanks! Sucks that I was just at Walmart earlier tonight. And I never go to Walmart!

Maybe somebody can help... I'm having some. Calendar problems with my new iPhone.

Basically, I sync contacts, calendar and email through google onto my phone. On my 3GS when I upgraded to ios5 I had no problems, but on my 4s, the calendar is being a bit weird.

My google calendar has my main calendar (which syncs fine), but I also have my last.fm and Facebook events synced to that. When I did a restore to the 4s, I can't seem to get those events to show on my phone at all. They still work fine on the 3gs/google calendar.

This is what I see on the 3GS

Any ideas would be great!

go to m.google.com/sync on your iphone 4s. Select the proper device after logging in, and make sure all the calendars you want synced are checked. After saving your changes, give it a minute or two, and they should sync with you Calendar app

I sometimes have to do this after adding new calendars to google calendar, because a lot of times they dont sync automatically.

Okay gang, a coworker of mine sort of has an issue. She wants to transfer all her iTunes purchased music off of her 3GS onto her 4S but the computer she had purchased the songs on originally is dead. She has access to the account she purchased them but, unlike apps, you cannot re-download songs for free. Is there a way to transfer them off of her 3GS onto her 4S or another computer?

I think you can now... isn't that the whole point of iTunes in the Cloud?

Thanks datwheezy. Must have completely forgotten doing that last time I set this up. Working perfectly now!

Guys I just got a 4S (going to pick it up) and I still have my 3GS which I intend to use. I wonder can I have both connected to the same account? I mean to have same apps and games on both of them?

Yep, I do this with my wife and my iPad and it's no problem.

I'm currently a 1 iPhone family with an iPad and Touch, but plan on getting my wife an iPhone soon. So, I get that you can all have the same account, but how does it work with contacts and such? Like she can have her own contacts, but use the same iTunes?

Your iTunes and iCloud Apple IDs can be separate, luckily.

We log in with the same iTunes Apple ID to share music, movies and apps.
We log in with separate iCloud Apple IDs to access email, docs, pictures, contacts, etc.

Works pretty well. I originally dreaded that my MobileMe Apple ID was a different one than my iTunes Apple ID, but now it serves a perfect purpose since we share a single account for content.

With iOS5 it seems like the battery on my 4 is draining quicker. Any suggestions for getting a little more juice out of the battery?

I'm noticing the same with my iPhone 4. I used to finish the day with ~45% left on the battery, but now I'm barely staying above 20% sometimes (from a full charge overnight).

You got lots of stuff running in the background (notifications/location/wifi/bluetooth)?

Btw, is notification information constantly updated whenever using the phone or just when pulling down the notification page?

Nope. Just wifi, but I have 3g turned off when I'm in wifi.

Apologies if this has been discussed but the thread is huge...

In a few weeks I'm getting a 4S and upgrading from a 3GS (AT&T). I heard that my SIM card can't carry over because the 4 and 4S use a micro SIM card. What's the process like for transferring to the micro SIM card? Should I not activate the phone until I go to an AT&T store and have them transfer the card data?

edit: saw this was discussed a bit on page 64... sounds like I will get a micro SIM in the package and I don't even need to worry about transferring anything over?

I jumped from a 3GS to a 4S. No cards were transferred. Just restored my backup from iCloud and everything was there: pics, apps, contacts, etc.

Just came back from the Applestore.

Replacement denied for the dut problem..

This is really the first time I haven't been able to get it replace, and I'm pretty sure this is a move to sell me their Applecare+ program.

Edit: So corporate/customer relations got in touched with me, and said they called another store and lodge a complaint with the one I went to. They were just following up with my tech support call from yesterday, and asked if the appointment they set up worked out. I just told them I lucked out, and I guess they went above and beyond and set up an appointment with a guaranteed replacement. This is probably because they guaranteed my replacement over the phone with a superviser already yesterday, but I really rather not lodge a complaint against an Apple Store at all if I can help it. I guess customer relations took it in their own hands and did it themselves because this store was stupid enough once to deny me a return on a faulty Macbook Pro.

Thanks Apple!

For everyone having issues with their battery:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/oct/28/iphone-4s-battery-apple-engineers

Apple engineers are contacting some iPhone 4S owners to try to solve problems with battery life on the new device, after some people have seen dramatic drops in longevity compared to previous models.

One owner has told the Guardian that Apple contacted him directly and asked him to install a monitoring program on the phone to try to diagnose the problem, which is so far unexplained.

In its data sheet for the iPhone 4S, which was released earlier this month, Apple quietly noted that the standby time for the new phone would only be 200 hours - compared to 300 for the iPhone 4, and 250 hours even for the original 2007 iPhone. The company did not offer any reason when asked why by the Guardian, but noted that other lifespans such as 3G talktime were as long or longer than previous models.

One owner who was contacted by Apple told the Guardian: "My battery life was extremely poor - 10% drop in standby every hour. I noticed that the usage figure was roughly half that of standby, even when the phone was not being used, so I assumed something was crashing or running in the background. I switched off all the new features including Siri and location services, but it was still really poor. I also tried setting up a clean phone with no apps but it is still really poor.

"I then got a call from a senior [Apple] engineer who said he had read my post and was 'reaching out' to users for data and admitted this was an issue (and that they aren't close to finding a fix!) and asked lots of questions about my usage and then asked if he could install the file below and that he would call back the day after to retrieve the info. I extracted the file from my Mac after a sync and emailed it to him. He was incredibly helpful and apologetic in the typical Apple way!"

Users of the iPhone 4S have been surprised by how rapidly the phone's battery appears to drain, especially compared to the iPhone 4. The 4S incorporates a more powerful dual-core processor, the A5, than the iPhone 4, but the same amount of RAM. According to iFixit, the iPhone 4S has 5.3 watt-hours' capacity - 0.05Wh more capacity than the iPhone 4.

In some cases the short life has been blamed on corrupted contacts imported from Apple's MobileMe or iCloud services, or from Google's Contacts list; deleting and then reinstalling them sometimes seems to fix the problem.

The problem has generated huge discussions on Apple's support boards, with some people finding that backing the phone's contents up to their computer and then restoring it improves the life.

The Guardian's own tests on an unrestored iPhone 4S using Google Contacts and MobileMe suggest that the phone drains fastest when mobile data is switched on, while Wi-Fi usage makes little difference to battery consumption. Neither location services, which try to orient the phone based on Wi-Fi and mobile data information, nor the voice-driven "assistant" Siri, appear to affect battery drain particularly.

Looks like it's not just an issue with people having their settings cranked up and all sorts of notifications on.

Probably, they're way too nice. They also throw in incentives if you even hint at not shopping with Apple anymore. Last time was a printer worth $150 from HP. I have guilt issues so I told them to give me a $70 stand.

Why? If your situation sucked, you should tell them.

I'm just not the type to complain. The person can be having a bad day or what not, and I don't want to feel like I made their day worse.

Luckily Apple took all the hardwork out of my hands and made a follow up call themselves, but with me being who I am it made me feel bad because I assume some guy must have got chewed out at work.

You really shouldn't worry about it. The fact that you're even thinking about their feelings at all means you're in the top 1% of desirable customers. It's their job and they'll be happy to help out someone who's got a legitimate problem they can help out with.

I noticed it from day 1 of the update and this seems to be a widespread problem.

The only thing I have seen improve battery life was turning off notifications, but they are just too useful for me to give them up. I think it is a software glitch and hopefully they fix it soon with an update.

Question, I have been trying to get iMessage to send messages to my wife's iPod touch. The problem is it only sends texts to her phone and I can't find any option to add her under iMessage that doesn't take me to an email.

The email address it's asking for is the AppleID associated with iMessage on her device. In the settings for iMessage there should be an option to associate an email address and iMessage's sent to that email will be sent to the devices that are logged in with that email.

My 4S has had fantastic battery life. I use the thing all damn day and I haven't drained the battery once yet. Usually its around 30% when I get home after using it constantly during a 6-hour work day.

I think the problem is her touch is not up to date as I just found out.

I'm a big fan of these after using them for about a year. I use them at work all day, and they last at least a couple of days on a battery charge (which is standard micro USB). The sound isn't bad. There's a pause/skip/startover control. If somebody calls, there's a separate button to answer the call and a mic in one of the ears. It seems to work great, I've never gotten any complaints when I talk to people on it. I don't have a 4S, so I don't know how well Siri hears through the mic, but I imagine it's fine. The only drawback for me is that they're automatically powered off while charging.

EDIT: It's the Sony DR-BT101, and it comes in white or navy blue. And I think they go for about $50 on amazon.

Okay, these just showed up today, and I have a total idiot noob question.

I paired these with my iMac. Can I pair them with my iPad and iPhone as well without having to do the pairing connection thing each time? Will the headphones keep the devices it is paired with in memory?

Not at home to test it, but just curious.
