Sometimes when I email photos from my 4S they get rotated 90º or 180º when viewed by the recipient. Is this happening to anyone else, and is there a fix?

When you take the photo with the volume buttons facing the sky and then transfer them over to the PC (haven't tried putting any of my mac yet) they'll be upside down.. maybe that has something to do with it? I'm not sure how to fix that.

I think in the iPhone 4S promo video, the person taking the photo of the people in front of the air balloon is holding the camera as I described previously.. upside down.

Yeah using the volume buttons for the shutter is embarrassingly awful. The lens placement is all wrong.

111111!

Hah, that's my birthday. Trying to come up with something particularly unique to do but having little luck so far.

When I tried it my hands were covering the lens.

It's definitely a bit awkward at first. I got used to it quickly, though. It's nice to have the option, in my opinion.

I remember reading about this in the thread. I don't think the orientation of the camera is the problem, because it's not a consistent thing. Of three photos, two were taken in landscape with the volume buttons on top, and only one of these was flipped upside down. The third photo was taken in portrait, and was rotated 90º.

The option is definitely welcome.

So about gamecenter.. can you just turn it off?

Also, the camera button the lockscreen.. The iPod Touch I played with had the icon be persistent, but on my friend's 4S you have to doubletap the home button to bring it up.

Is there a way to make the camera button persistent on the phone, or do you have to doubletap to bring it up? Because that sucks.

You can email attachments with a jailbreak app if(when) it ever happens. Or download documents to go and you can send anything in your google storage/Dropbox as an attachment.

It looks like I'm just crazy and the camera button wasn't persistent... Thats a huge bummer and kinda kludgy. :\

Don't turn it off, play some games/challenges with GAF on the gaming side!

Eh, I am very excited to play Sworcery and a few other titles but from what I've seen of Gamecenter it looks to be like more of an annoyance than anything. I'm sure I might change my outlook once I use it a bit. Just from looking over my friend's shoulder and seeing the little "welcome back" messages etc looked terrible though. It was at complete odds with the game's aesthetic. It is good to know that I am not forced to use it though. Thats all I was worried about.

Eh, it's got to the point where I barely notice now. Still worth it for scoreboards imo.

Well, I'll let you challenge my bit.trip beat scores! :P

if it was always there, you could risk it being clicked in your pocket and taking pictures. it's better for it to be hidden unless there's a couple home button clicks.

Bahaha, yeah right. It would never accidentally activate in my pocket. And if it somehow did, who cares? It should be an option.

Cross posted from the iCloud thread, 5.0.1 beta 2 is out now. Also available OTA to 5.0.1 beta 1 users. Release notes are currently inaccessible so I can't tell what's changed between the two.

I have an iPhone 4 from the launch last year. The screen is starting to click a little when pressed lightly. Is there anything I can do to jam that sucker back in place? Will they be able to do anything at the Apple Store.

In my experience it impacts accent recognition as well. British Siri can't understand me at all while US/AUS Siri can perfectly. Which is weird since I have a mild British accent. :D

That's a shame. I do like Brit-Siri though. Is there any update on when UK-Gaf will get location services with Siri?

:o It shipped! Bastards faked me out thinking I'd have to wait a week.

location services in countries outside the us will be coming in 2012 according to apple.

I'd love to be able to change the voice. As much as I kinda dig voices that try to sound human, there's a certain uncanny valley-quality to it which I hate. Just give me the option to have it sound like Dr. Sbaitso or the computer from Wargames.

Jtwo, how many phones do you have? Are you going to be using an Android device and an iPhone at the same time?

Sadly I gave my Ice Cream Sandwich dreams. So only one. I'm also a slave to the 2year contract so Its going to be a while before I can check out Android again, too.
That makes me really sad now I think about it.

so i got my iphone 4s yesterday, trading up from a 3g its a big improvement. i have a few questions.

how do i use a nickname on game center rather then my apple id

does itunes wifi sync only work once a day? the button to sync doesnt work is there a way for me to force sync?

how do i take a picture in the lock screen

is there a way to tell what games are retina games in itunes (like the + sign for universal games)

Oh yeah, forcing sycn is gonna be key. With gmusic it automatically starts uploading tracks the second they're added to itunes. Which means effectively realtime sync on my phone. I definitely add stuff all the time just before I'm about to leave the house, its a bad habit. But I'm gonna need wireless sync to sync on command at all times.

Click on the account name and view account, there's an option to set a nickname in there.

I think I read that the phone needs to be plugged in to power?

Double-click the home button

I don't think so. But I haven't come across anything recently that doesn't support the full resolution.

Congrats on the new phone. If you haven't already you can enable wifi syncing by plugging the phone into iTunes and enabling the checkbox on the main iPhone page towards the bottom. After it is enabled it should auto sync whenever you plug the phone into a power source and it is connected to the same wifi network as the computer. Manually syncing from the phones settings should also be possible as long as the phone holds enough of a charge to complete the sync.

I have a question: when you're in a family plan and a member wants to upgrade/renew contract for a phone. Does it affect the rest of the people in that plan or only the user who upgraded?

Any room for an extra UDID on your devacct? I'd like to get this battery drainage shit under control.

Thinking of going to grab one of these today and have 2 questions:

I read an article in the paper yesterday about some battery issues that Apple are trying to fix. Will this just be a firmware fix or should I be waiting a few weeks for a revised model?

Also, this is the first time I'll have had a contract phone (UK). Does anyone have any advice on the best provider? I'm more interested in the data than calls so I'm leaning towards 3 at the moment (£35 per month - 5000 texts, 1000 minutes, unlimited data) but people keep saying that 3 have terrible coverage. Would I even use the 500/750MB a month that the other providers offer if I was just doind a little web browsing on the move?

It's a firmware fix. Apparently it has do do with location settings constantly being on and draining the battery and the latest betas of 5.0.1 are fixing it. 5.0.1 will eventually get mass-released to everyone, so buy your iPhone without fear, as even if the battery is jacked it'll be fixed soon.

Can't answer your second question 'cause I live in the US, sorry.

Am I the only one who thinks that iOS5 has also made the battery drain faster on an iPhone 4 and iPad 1?

I have never charged my iPad as much as I do now, I literally have to charge it every night.

I hope 5.0.1 lets us change the video quality settings in the camera app. 1080p is overkill for most things that the everyday person would be recording.

Only changes the contract of the upgrader.

Got my iPhone 4S today. My very first iPhone. So exciting!

Well, actually it isn't that exciting since it was virtually impossible not to touch an iPhone several times during the last years and get to know how it works. It's a really great device, though.

I was only able to afford the 16GB version, so I'm already feeling like I'm running out of space ;(

Anyway, I've got a question regarding iCloud. Since I don't have unlimited 3G access a month, I worry that it might eat all of my 3G ressources if I decide to activate it. Is it possible to configure iCloud so that it only calls home when I'm connected at home / to a router?

I don’t know how much 3G bandwidth you have but iCloud should not be a worry as bookmarks, contacts, calendars don't use up much data at all. the bigger stuff might be documents and photos.

here’s what you can do if you’re really tight on data:

go into iCloud settings and turn off the data and documents and photo stream features. even though apple has limits on devs for how much data their apps can sync up, this setting will shut that off entirely.

separately in the mail settings, you can also set up your mail accounts to not fetch or push to your device but instead only get mail when you open the program (I don’t really recommend this since email notices are valuable and messages are usually very small, but anyway)

finally, you can turn off 3G data entirely in the network settings. the phone will now wait till you’re on wifi before doing anything on the network. I would only turn this on if you’ve hit your monthly limit for data

Is there some reason the neogaf app can't be an actual app with the slide refresh options and what not? I would even pay a dollar or two for it lol
