Hasn't it been about 18 months since the 4 launched? I was eligible for the nice price and they definitely ignored the half a year or so left on my contract in regard to pricing.

No need to be worried about the glass on both sides?

What about "bumpers"?

Something not so...bulky? It's a beautiful device. Help him out boys, I'm just visiting this thread from camp Android!

No cases should be fine, just don't slam the thing down. I am kind of surprise to see so many talking about cases and screen protectors and cleaning wipes, it's a waste of money if you put in even a little bit of care.

Yup it's a very lucrative satellite business predicated on people's anxieties. But the phone is extremely well built and difficult to put a dent in. I've dropped mine several times and I'll still get close to 100% of the resale value when I sell it next week.

My phone order's still "processing" but I'm not too worried about it as even if it arrives on the 15th (which I doubt), there will be someone to sign for it as it's being shipped to my office.

I've got 2 cases already lined up for my phone: an all-white otterbox (despite the bulk, I love it for when I use it while raining) and a white bumper. Despite the chance of the bumper scratching the metal, it'll only be used for the most minimal of uses. Bumper's still unopened (obviously) and I can return it if need be.

I'll probably go caseless until it starts raining more regularly.

My 3G screen doesn't have a scratch on it. I don't know how you could scratch that unless you drop it. I've never dropped it and put it in a different pocket than my keys. Done.

The back however does scratch easily. (especially silver apple logo) Laying it down on a desk is enough to scratch it. But my 3G has had a case on it from week two. So, it is pretty much perfect.

I went with white for the 4S because I know fingerprints are less visible and that's really my biggest issue with iPhones. I can't stand how nasty the phone looks after a few hours. I don't know how the back material of the 4S is compared to the 3G but I plan on going caseless. Hope it's not as scratch prone or fingerprint prone.

I think I've just about to decided to head over to the Verizon shop (which is very close to where I live) at around 3am or so on the 14th. If there are a ton of people there, I'll head to the Apple store (which is about 10 miles away), and try my luck there. Honestly, I'd rather get it from the Apple store, but the Verizon store is a lot closer and more people are likely to show up at the Apple store. Everyone knows they get the most stock, but since it's only one model this time, all three provider's customers will be fighting for the thing. I'm already nervous that I might not be able to get one!

I didn't think I'd be this excited for the thing.

Only option I get online is the $500-whatever + renewed 2 year contract, which is a ripoff. Do I need to go get one in-person in the store to get the no-commitment pricing? Urgh, that's annoying.

To say the least.

The 3G is simply vile in comparison to the 4. It's not even hyperbole, the difference is night and day.

I'm generally not worried about actually breaking the phone or rendering it inoperable... but it's such a shiny piece of art that even minute scratches and scuffs are bothersome. I'd also like to keep it good as new, if I ever want to resell it later. To that end, a case is desirable.

Although that said, my cousin did somehow manage to crack my 3G's screen after about 90 seconds of handling it. While you and I might take care of it, you never know when a loved one might want/need to use it.... and they aren't necessarily treating them as the delicate godly objects that we know they are.

I'm using cases 100% of the time now.

So you love the design of the phone so much that you want to cover it with a case and never really see it?

The only real function of a case is to preserve resale value since almost every single one I've seen makes the phone looks worse, not to mention bulkier.

Hearing stuff like this just makes me giddy. I'm posting from my 3G now and after ditching jailbreak and moving from 4.1 to 4.2 last week, I actually think it's become quite decent again. Still can't wait to pass it on to my mom next week. I'm sure I'll be blown away like I was when I got my 3G three years ago. Probably moreso.

You make it sound like a burqa for phones, lol.

I'll probably find a nice clear one so it doesn't change the look much.

And I'm telling you.. my cousin found a way to accidentally break an iphone in 90 SECONDS. That was like a personal phone 9/11 to me. After that, safety precautions can be no joke... :P

No AppleCare+ in Canada either.

I never let anyone touch my phone. I learned the hard way when my 8 year old cousin jacked the shit out of my psp analog stick.

Now I don't let anyone touch my electronics unless it's my ps3 controller.

Craigslist.

I got a clean ESN Verizon iPhone 4 on craiglist for a reasonable price. I just press F5 like mad, and text the first number I saw with a low price.

And if is for CMDA, always always always do the sale at a Verizon store so they can confirm the ESN is clean.

I just follow the same basic routine all the way back to when I was with At&t. Except I didn't have to worry about the ESN thing until now, but it's worth the coverage from Verizon.

I hear you on that... but if it's a girlfriend or other family member you might end up in the doghouse/guilted into letting them use it anyway. Especially for a phone, where calls may be important to whatever degree. And I don't want to have to give them the nerdy "please take SPECIAL care of it" speech every time.

Using the boost battery case. Yeah it makes the iPhone bigger and heavier. But I work on a manufacturing floor a lot of the day, and dont get a chance to plug back in.

It has only been 15 months.

If you care about keeping it in good condition, you need a case.

My 3G was caseless for all its life (2 years) and by the time I swapped it out with a 4 it was scratched to hell and back. Mind you, with the screen powered on there were only two scratches that were visible... What I can say however is that thing was a tank. It hit the floor many times and even had an external hdd fall down on it corner first.

My 4 I used a case with and after a year it does have minor scratches (which boggles my mind, but whatever).

So it all depends on wether you care or not about these =)

When I had a 4, my ONLY marks were from dropping it hard on concrete and metal. Even then, only the antenna rim and very, very edge of the front was marked at all - I got lucky, it probably could have shattered. With that said, the point is that it's not at all scratch prone - just be sensible and it will be fine; fingeprints aren't a problem either, due to the all-over oleophobic coating.

I keep mine in a slip case purely for when it's in my pocket. There's no way I'm going to have a device that looks like that in any sort of case while I use it.

No AppleCare+ in Canada either.

I've seen a lot of broken iphone 4s. I've got no problem with people not wanting to use cases (I didn't for a while, and now use only the thin snapcase), but don't listen to those that tell you it's somehow indestructible and you don't need a case if that's your concern. That is incorrect.

Though definitely AppleCare+ now helps with those worries, at least.

the only case I use is a bumper for when I go to the gym. It's already saved my ass once when I dropped my 4 while on the elliptical. The regular apple bumper is a POS though and is already stretching and tearing, same thing happened to my brothers. That bumper on steroids, as ugly as it looks, has me intrigued for gym use.

Anyone have any experience with the iphone 4 dock? The apple site says it works with the 4s, but it doesn't specify if the dock comes with a usb charge cable. I want to have another usb cable, one for home and one for work.

It doesn't come with one.

But you may be the only person in the world that doesn't have a dozen of Apple's white cables hanging out all over your house being unused.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't come with one, but I'm not 100%.

I'm a little more than pissed off with Sprint at this point. I had trouble with them all Friday, having been passed around from one clueless representative to the next for 2 hours in the morning and then 2 hours in the afternoon. I assumed by the end all was taken care of and the last person I spoke to said to wait for the initial 24 hour period to see what status changes occur in my phone order before taking any more action.

I wake up and check my order only to view no changes. I call early in the morning and find out one of the representatives who was handling my porting information screwed up multiple lines in the form. So guess what? That halted the whole thing and screwed me good. The guy this morning had to effectively cancel my phone order and replace it with a new one. He couldn't guarantee when I'd get the thing, either. No idea how all this nonsense happens... so despite placing my order at 4 AM on Friday's crack of dawn, having my card charged, and dealing with their hot potato customer service, I am still staring at an order status screen that says my order is being 'processed'.

Fustercluck with a capital F.

What? iPhones don't come with the USB cable any more? That doesn't sound right.

The poster who wanted the dock wanted it for a second place to charge.

What about a good belt-case? I'll need the phone accessible quickly for work, but I hate putting phones in cases generally (ruins their thinness/beauty). Want something I can pull it out of quickly and my pockets are full of keys, cars, pens and other sharp items.

it doesn't. But on a side note, I do think iphone docks are some of the most easiest dyi projects available.

I made this with 4 big binderclips and 1 small one. Took me less than an hr, including brainstorming lol.

Same thing happened to me but after a few hours of being on the phone with Sprint's customer service, they got everything back to normal and apologized profusely on the error of their doing that caused all of it.

RE: cases, bumpers are excellent. Barely cover your phone, but those few millimeters of wrapping add a lot of protection in case the phone falls (unless you drop it on a pile of rocks, it will likely always hit the bumper) and when you're putting the phone on a surface, as the back or front panel won't be touching anything.

It's win-win. The case is minimal, yet offers plenty of protection. And honestly, the white bumper with a black iPhone (or vice versa) looks amazing.

Ironically, cases that cover the back can scratch the glass since dust particles get trapped inside and move around.

Does Applecare do accidentals?

And I can get Applecare up to a year after purchase, yes?

Anyone have the direct link from apple showing the exact terms for their one year out of the box Iphone 4S warranty? I used my american express card, so basically it extends the original manufacturer's warranty an additional year through Amex so I basically get 2 years of warranty for free.

Apple does cover accidents if you purchase AppleCare+. It's not the normal AppleCare which just extends your manufactures warranty for another year and does not cover accidents. AppleCare+ I believe has to be purchased at the same time you buy your phone and replaces your 1 year warranty. Covers two accidents for the year and it's $99.

Normal AppleCare is $69 and can be bought anytime within the first year. Extending the manufactures warranty to two years.

Xamdou, I'm not sure how the American Express warranty works. I know MasterCard has something similar but have never used it. Don't know how easy it is to file a claim with them but I know Apple warranties are good and I've never had a problem replacing an item. Very little questions asked as well. Maybe someone else can help out more.

Ah, cheers. There was no mention of Applecare+, but maybe it's only in the US (I'm in Australia). Thanks for the tip, though!

Yeah, I think I'm going to use a bumper with this phone. Don't have an iPhone 4, but I had all the previous iterations and never used anything.

Are the regular Apple bumpers decent? Or are there better third-party options?

Standard warranties are worthless for phones because they don't cover accidental damage.
