You've seen anything close to Siri on other phones? Get the foo outta here.

Good to know. We'll see once the media gets more hands on with the thing.scorcho said:you really won't notice the difference in speed in most non-gaming use. see: iphone 4 compared to ipad 2. i'm sure the ipad 2 is faster, but in terms of web surfing or interface interaction i've never had a point where i thought the phone felt 'slower.'
i dont see how my post disagres with that? because iphones come out every year developers have to cater to a variety of models with different specs. im not sure if the 3gs is not being phased out or stopped, but you're now going to find devs targetting the 3gs or iphone 4 (probably the iphone 4 because that has sold shit loads). only a few will push the 4s, unless theres some kind of push to make gaming a bigger feature?Marty Chinn said:But that's not true. Even with games, most don't push the envelope because they don't want to fragment their market. Why appeal to the iPhone 4S when you can run great on an iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS? The possible fragmentation is what holds back demanding software and that's not a bad thing for end consumers either. It just means that performance bump you get every year doesn't translate it into being taken advantage of.

Ars had an article a few months ago on the two sensors 8MP Apple could've used for the 4S - http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...phone-5-camera-wont-be-much-of-an-upgrade.arsMRORANGE said:the iPhone 4S still has a pretty dam small sensor most Point and shoot's could easily take it on, people who want this phone because of the camera are mad. 1080p is nice though.

Besides that, there are tons of apps that can be improved, or better yet created in the first place thanks to a better CPU. We're not even close to the point where more power isn't needed.
Augmented reality apps are an entire category that can benefit from more processing power.

if anything, that argument pretty much plays into the 2 year consumer cycle, of that you shouldn't buy the latest iphones because nobody will be taking advantage of them anyway.

I'm not arguing there isn't tangible benefits to nearly double the performance improvements. It will allow better and more complex software, ie Siri, to be possible, my only point is, at some point, speed is 'good enough' and other features become the selling points. The camera is a pretty good one, a new hardware design would be another. Chips, not so much.brain_stew said:By all means, express your disappointment, but lets get real. The iphone 4 isn't anywhere close to "good enough" in terms of performance, and the SOC upgrade will make a huge difference.
X-Frame said:I wonder which iPhone 4 the iPhone 4S looks like -- the Verizon or AT&T one?
I have the AT&T .. and it would be awesome if I could still use the same Bumper cases with the 4S. You can't with the Verizon iPhone 4 though.
HOWEVER, now that there's no antenna issues I might not even use a Bumper. So long as my skins fit (which they should).
bananas said:I don't know about anyone else in this thread, but I never claimed the 4S is shit. It's a better version of the iPhone 4, which was already a great phone.
But it's an updated version of the iPhone 4, hard to get excited over that.
It's got a faster CPU, but the iPhone 4 didn't have any trouble with it's processing speeds.
It's got a better camera, but the iPhone 4 didn't have a shitty camera.
It's got faster data transfer speeds, but those are theoretical and real world results never reach that.
The 3GS had a way better CPU over the 3G which had issues with graphically demanding apps.
That alone made the internal upgraded a significant factor. The 4S's enhancements are significant because the iPhone 4 never had any issues with performance.
Your just like me. I don't play the 3D games. I play the 2D games. As long as games like Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, or Words with Friends are capable of running on the iPhone 4 I'm good till the 2012 iPhone revision.narcosis219 said:No, I don't enjoy playing 3D games on the iPhone because touch controls are terrible for those kinds of games. The only games I play are the 2D ones like bejeweled and stuff like that where the control scheme doesn't hinder the gameplay.
So yes, they are no longer important to me.

big takeaway? it's another cellphone camera.
2:05PM And, five whole elements in the lens assembly -- 30 percent sharper, and it'll go down to f/2.4

Phoenix said:The bigger screen is the only one that would have been a tangible improvement for consumers. There are no NFC solutions out there in common use and likely won't be any for a while yet and LTE/4G in its current roll out is actually hitting where HSDPA+ is coming in at so you won't likely get much more download speed (realistically).
i'll be getting the 64gb white!JackEtc said:Curious, which one will you guys be getting? Size and color. I'll be getting the 32GB, but I'm not sure about the color.
im not making fun of you, you seem p sensible compared to the other loonies. as ive been saying, as a consumer its far better to work by the 2 year cycle both from a financial and technological point of view. i'm on a 3gs, so a 4s seems like the logical step-up (if i bother) because the the iphones have advanced greatly over the last 2 years. if i had a iphone 4, id wait until 2012.bananas said:I don't know about anyone else in this thread, but I never claimed the 4S is shit. didn't apple say that iphone 4 has sold half as much as every other model combined? i cant remember, but youd figure the % of people owning iphone 4 greatly outnumbers the older models. then again, maybes theres an argument to be made that if people are waiting for free iphones then they're probably not going to bother buying the 'demanding' shit?the other chinn said:The problem with this is that the 3GS still exists. Apple didn't kill it; they made it now free. So instead of phasing it out where maybe the 2 year cycle could apply, that's not going to happen. Plenty of people are going to hop on to a free iPhone and that's just going be still keeping the 3GS legacy alive rather than phasing it out.

I haven't kept up with NFC exactly, but I thought NFC devices could talk to each other.
