It says for Verizon, Mobile Hotspot is included with 4/7/12GB plans? I am a grandfathered unlimited, so technically it's all of those. Does that mean I get iPhone 4S Mobile Hotspot for free?
Almost assuredly not. If you want to tether, I'd assume you're going to have to degrade down to a tiered plan and pay for it.

Check it out though, but I'd doubt it.

no, grandfathered unlimited will not be able to tether.

Finally, a case for the redneck whitetrash market.

Is it possible to preorder and do instore pickup somehow? I really need it on the 14th (my Incredible is sending my texts to random people [including one of my bosses and my girlfriends mother])

Damn. Guess I'll just have to wait for a jailbreak or something then.

Not sure, but if you preorder from Apple, chances are you'll have it on the 14th. My friend actually got the 4 a day before release preordering through Apple.

I think I just spoke with a clueless AT&T rep ..

Basically, I want to do an Upgrade Swap. Use my brother's eligibility to order the iPhone 4S and then use it on mine.

The AT&T rep told me NOT to order online or else I will never be able to use the 4S and that my brother will be forced to use it.

Instead, that I NEEDED to call them to pre-order the phone tomorrow so that they can re-associate the phone before it is shipped.

Does that make sense to anyone?

Doubtful. Apple doesn't have any sort of setup for that with their website. In the past if you wanted one from the store, you needed to line up.

I bought my 3GS online and it showed up on the first delivery day as expected. I'll be ordering my 4S online as well.

If I remember correctly, with the 3GS, it almost showed up early for those who ordered online. Everybody's status said it was going to be delivered one day, but then holds got put on all of the orders. Basically, Apple put the kibosh on early delivery and had UPS hold everybody's order an extra day to ensure that nobody got one early (though a few probably slipped through the cracks).

I don't think so. I want to do the same thing on Verizon, and they give these instructions for ordering for one number and activating on another number. They are technically for the iPhone 4, but people have said it'll be the same for the 4S. Dunno if they'll help you, but you may want to take a look.

I did the exact thing last year with my sister's line. I preordered it online from apple and it came a day early. When I got the phone I just went to my local AT&T store and told them what I wanted to do and it took them like 5-10 minutes to switch things around and everything was fine. The customer representative told me that a lot of people on family plans do the exact thing. AT&T doesn't really care who uses the phone as long as somebody signs a 2 year contract. I don't see why it would be any different this year. Just make sure when you order the phone online to enter your brother's # and when you get the phone don't activate at home through itunes just take it to your local store.

Yep. I recorded the last part of the Little Mermaid ride from Disneyland from my last trip over the summer. It's about 22 seconds long, audio's decent, capture is okay since it's on my 3GS. Already I know that it's a couple hundred megs - and that's non-HD.

Just recording bits of say World of Color - that's a ton of space I'll need on my phone.

Sir, I like how you think. Capturing disneyland is always awesome.

And what would happen to my brother's iPhone 3G? Will it still work as usual?

Thanks for the help! I figured the rep wasn't very experienced.

It's not a typo. Apple didn't mention it there but the iPhone 4S also has shorter battery life than the iPhone 4 when using wifi. Must be all that antenna switching

Hmm, 100 hours is a huge drop though.

So I'm an AT&T customer and I'm upgrade eligible. Can I order from Apple.com tonight?

Yes. As part of the purchase process, you need to plug in your current cell info. It will then re-verify that you are eligible and give you the correct price.

Standby time is a useless figure anyway. I mean, seriously, when did your phone ever last for more than 48 (let alone 24) hours on one charge. The regular use battery time is equal to or better than the iPhone 4's. That's all that matters.

If your rep does everything right then it should continue working like usual. IIRC all they really do is "reprogram" the sim that comes with the new phone. So they associate with your account instead of your brothers. And no problem I was having the same issues as you last year.I was worried about it thinking things could go wrong lol

Any thoughts on screen protectors vs. naked? I wouldn't say I'm particularly rough on phones, but I do carry it around in my pocket most of the day. I'd hate to diminish the awesome display though...

^ I carry my iPhone 4 in my jeans pocket all day (with nothing else in there of course), and it's fine. Just don't go weeks without cleaning it off and you'll be fine. Screen protectors ruin touch feel imo.

Welp. Looks like I'm not pre-ordering. Just called Sprint up and I'm eligible for a full upgrade in January. Me and my Evo remain friends.

my android phone has lasted 5 days before as I only make calls as I leave work or some texts now and again, I think standby time is important.

It's not a phone but my ipod touch 4g sometimes goes for a week before I need to charge it at all, including use like wifi browsing or angry birds :P

I used screen protectors for the longest time on my 3G but towards the end of it's life I stopped bothering and found it much better. Since getting my 4 last year, I haven't ever put a screen protector on it.

For someone like myself that is careful with their phone, works in an office and carries it in their pocket (without keys or whatever), screen protectors end up diminishing the great feel of the glass display, not to mention how easy it is to clean (with the oleophobic coating). I can understand there would be some people that would prefer a protector (phone is carried in a bag with other items a lot, works outdoors in a dusty/dirty environment, has butter fingers) but for myself, I like using the phone as comes. In fact, I'd prefer to not even use a case but I use the Apple bumper as the rubber edges stop it sliding slightly tilted surfaces (like my leg on a bus).

Awesome. I kind of want to call AT&T back just to be 110% sure but what are the chances I get the same rep? Lol.

If anybody is as anal retentive about cases as me, and absolute hates giant ugly cases, you should check out the iSkin Claro.

http://www.iskin.com/iphone4/claro/

It's a very slim case, that's basically just a clear polymer wrap-around case with a hard plastic center for added protection on the back of the iPhone. It is the ONLY case I can find that meets all of my criteria (which I don't think are all that picky). It is 1) slim, adding minimal bulk to the phone itself, 2) clear because why would I buy a pretty looking phone and cover it up with an ugly ass case and 3) rubberized so I can keep a good grip on it.

I've used a similar iSkin case (the solo) on my 3GS for the past two years and it has served me very well. The only difference is that it doesn't have the hard plastic inner. It's all rubbery.

Thank you and definitely agree.

I often show the pics of Disneyland to family members that haven't gone in a while, co-workers planning trips with their family and the big one: making all of my friends that didn't go jealous of what I see/watch.

Also, there'd just so much to see and it's handier snapping a pic/recording some video with your phone than camera.

Yep. I'm going 64GB for the same reason: I know I'll fill it up. Very glad I went with the 64GB iPad, and happy to throw an extra $100 at the iPhone to make damn sure I have all the space I need. Plus I plan to record a lot of 1080p video, and never want to feel constricted by lack of storage.
but if it gets close to filling up, can't you simply transfer that data to your computer? Or does Apple have this thing super locked down?

Also, will I be able to drag and drop a song from iTunes into my iPhone and use it as a ringtone?

Okay thanks. I really want this but $733 is a lot of money. Don't really know what to do right now.

Can anyone put a guess on when iPhone 5 will come? Is early 2012 most likely?
iPhone 5 won't arrive till next summer at the absolute earliest, I highly doubt the next apple phone comes out in less then an year

(Liu Kang Baking A Pie answer) It comes out October 14, 2011. It's the fifth iPhone.

(serious answer) And steal all that iPad 3 hype? No way.

Hnng, I'm in the same situation with my brother's line, but for Verizon. They gave these directions for the iPhone 4 for switching the line, but I feel really paranoid that for some stupid reason it'll all of a sudden not work with the iPhone 4S. I kinda wanna just take it to a Verizon store when I get it, but that's like a half an hour away...

When I talked to Verizon today, they told me to order it using whoever s # was eligible for the upgrade, then when I call to activate it to make sure and give the # that I want to attach to the phone.

The eligible number will be the one that gets it's contract renewed for 2 years, but the other number will have the iPhone attached.

That works? I thought iPhones were pre-programmed with the number, and you activated them through iTunes, not through calling.

Also, is there an option to pre-order on the site and pick up in store?

Not sure about your second question, but from what I remember of the 4, it should arrive the 14th (some got it a day early, probably people on the west coast)

Apparently? I think they more or less meant calling the customer service though. Either way, the iPhone wont be activated on the line until i choose to do it, so I'll make sure to give myself some time to get it all squared away whether through their online interface or through customer service.

If iPhone 5 won't be till a year from now then I'm jumping on the 4S now. Just put my 3G on craigslist lol. I hope to get at least $150 for it because some people are asking over $220.
