When I talked to Verizon today, they told me to order it using whoever s # was eligible for the upgrade, then when I call to activate it to make sure and give the # that I want to attach to the phone.

The eligible number will be the one that gets it's contract renewed for 2 years, but the other number will have the iPhone attached.

Yeah, I just spoke to my 3rd AT&T rep tonight and this one knew her shit and they do the same thing. Order the phone with the eligible line then call AT&T to activate it on a different line. No SIM swapping or anything.

She said this stuff happens all the time, so when she said that I knew I got the right rep.

So the 450.00 price for early upgrades...could I get that at Best Buy or only at AT&T?

Because I could trade my iPhone 4 and 3GS to Best Buy and pretty much cover the cost.

For some random reason I just decided to buy a 4S when it comes out and give my 4 to my sister. The increased speed, better camera, and Siri are too tempting.

Yes, you could. But selling your iPhones yourself will net you a hell of a lot more money than trading them in.

If you preorder through the Apple site, when do they charge your card? Immediately, or on shipment?

Thought I could do in-store pickup and payment but since it sounds like we can't, need to know how fast I need to get my card balance down lol

Just called verified with a rep for Verizon:

Eligible Line: A
Line I want the iPhone attached to: B

Order phone using Line A information.
When phone arrives, activate via iTunes, which will attach it to Line A.
Call activation line number *228 > Option 1 with original phone that was attached to Line A, and re-activate it with Line A.
Call *228 > Option 1 with iPhone, and activate/attach to Line B.

Done.

The only difference is they told me to call them before I connect the new phone to iTunes.

Alarm is waking me up at 2:45 AM EST. I am ready.

Not sure which one to go to though, Apple or Verizon...

Just wanna make sure I'm understanding you correctly, they are basically these instructions, correct?

Yeah but BB is a sure bet.

I really don't feel like dealing with Craigslist, you know?

but if it gets close to filling up, can't you simply transfer that data to your computer? Or does Apple have this thing super locked down?

Also, will I be able to drag and drop a song from iTunes into my iPhone and use it as a ringtone?
You can easily sync everything to your computer but do be mindful of what your doing. Also, I probably go stretches before even syncing - due to being away from my comp so I don't always sync/back up.

Not saying that you'll be an extreme case, but with regular use - especially when taking photos, downloading music off iTunes from your phone, recording video or downloading hella apps from the App Store - you can eat the space quick. Throw in watching digital copies of movies that you get off of blu-ray copies, you can fill nearly a gig or two of space (Tangled alone was nearly 1.5gb, Inception was 2.35gb, etc.).

iCloud is gonna be a great service and wireless syncing is a welcomed addition, but sometimes, just having extra space available can give you peace of mind. If money's an issue then get what you feel comfortable with. If you can spend a bit more for storage, then it's totally up to you.

Oh and you can't drag/drop ringtones unless they're in ACC format and not copy-protected.

I think I am going to have both AT&T and Apple open and just spam them both.

Yep, same instructions, just with calling the automated activation line instead of using the web interface.

I plan on trying Apple' site for both the sprint and Verizon one I am ordering, but having sprint.com and verizon.com open just incase Apple is getting hammered.

Wanting to switch from AT&T to Verizon is going to mean that I'm not going to be able to get in on this preorder.

Hopefully 4S models won't be impossible to come by within a month of release.

Thanks for the response...I may go 64GB afterall.

But what is this all about? So I can't have custom ringtones on the 'best' phone on the market? Do you have to buy them from the iTunes store in some special "ringtone only" format, or are you just stuck with what comes in the box?

I'm not good with numbers :(
Yep, just like me in STL. 2am

Me! Alarm set for 2:50 am EST. Ordering one for me and one for the wife. Hoping that it won't be a shitfest - but it probably will be. :| Doing black and white 32 GBers.

I'm logging in to both sites and will buy from whichever site let's me through first.

Cool, thanks!

Sorry guys I'm just not digging those cases you posted earlier....any other suggestions. I've looked online a little bit but nothing really jumped out at me.

Cases for phones are a love at first sight for me.

Anybody else on SPRINT having this problem? (Posted this on sprintusers.com)

About 4 hours ago(Aprox. 6PM EST) I Chatted with Sprint and had the rep upgrade my account to SERO PREMIUM. He said it should take about 4 hours for everything to update on the site, and I got some emails and messages saying my account has changed, but it's still showing as the $30 SERO plan when it should be the $40 SERO PREMIUM plan. And when I go to the following link:

https://buyiphone.apple.com/WebObjec...on/springboard

I get the following message:

"Account type not supported.

We’re sorry. Your account type is not supported. Please contact your Sprint account manager or call *2 from your Sprint phone in order to verify your eligibility and complete your iPhone purchase."

And I figure I get this message because iPhones aren't allowed on the regular SERO plan which is fine, but if the rep upgraded me to the SERO PREMIUM plan why am I still getting this message? Does it often take more than 4 hours for the website to note my new plan?

What I used: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=26956131&postcount=9201

Make sure to get the updated one that doesn't have the partition between the mute switch and volume buttons though. They're different on the 4S/CDMA iPhone 4.

I am eligible for the upgrade but I have zero complains with my iPhone4 and can wait until next year.

The only complaint I have of my phone is that 16 gigs is not enough anymore. Which is crazy because I never thought I would fill it up, but now I have to pick and choose between apps, music, photos, videos.

Uh, no - you can make your own ringtones for the iPhone (have been able to for a while now). And iOS5 supports custom text tones too. I believe they do sell ringtones in the iTunes store (when accessed from the phone) but you can create your own easily - there are many tutorials out on the web, but it's simple.

3am ET and I'll still do it... Just gotta wake up. Then I've gotta call AT&T and plead for letting me upgrade ahead of my December 9th date. I've been with them for 7 years, so I've heard I've got a good shot. That, or I'll threaten to leave no that they don't have me by the balls (other than me still owing 8 months on my contract)

Oh hey CB. Setting my alarm to get up too. Here's hoping I'm back in bed before too long.

If you don't have the upgrade when you place your order you're not going to get subsidized pricing.

So, you think these will sell out fast? How fast after 3AM did the iPhone 4 sell out? Anyone from Canada staying up to pre-order?

I just read that the iPhone 4 was sold out within 20 hours of the initiation of preorders. Hopefully they produce enough to prevent that this time (or maybe it won't be necessary given the perception that this isn't a true upgrade... who knows).

All I know is I hope that, whatever happens, I'll be able to pick up a 64GB 4S locally on November 2nd. I thought I was eligible to jump carriers, which I was going to do regardless of this release due to dissatisfaction with AT&T, but I'm stuck in contract until June anyway, so I'm stuck with them. At least I get to upgrade on the 2nd.

What's the going price of an iPhone 4 32GB AT&T nowadays? Thinking about ordering a 4S at a retail and just selling my 4 to make up for the difference.

really? cant be any worse than at&t (i drive to chicago via 88/290 4-5x a week and i continuously drop calls with an original iphone, iphone 3GS, and iphone 4)...

ATT is also really shit.. I would never get any service in my old apartment even though there supposedly was a tower behind and in front of my apt. I have no problems in my new apartment, and they.. surprisingly.. have the best reception in at my school/hospital.. so i think a I'm begrudgingly sticking with them.

I'd love to go 64, but I just don't have the money. Blowing this paycheck and then some on it, but I have other stuff to buy this October...

32GB has been plenty for my iPhone 4. Don't think I need more than that.

I've gotten by okay with 32GB in my 3GS, but I often max out the memory and have to do a lot of transfer music back and forth. I know it's a first world problem, but I'm willing to throw them an extra hundred bucks to be able to hold more of my music collection at all times and to not have to constantly micromanage my podcasts.

(by the way, is there a way to set it in iTunes so that SOME podcasts are transferred to your phone based on the 10 most recent and SOME are transferred based on the 10 least recent? I have some that I listen to chronologically, like the Tobolowsky Files, but others, like Filmspotting, I only tend to listen to for the current reviews and discussion)

Also, I'm sure I won't use it a ton, but I'd like to save space for video, which I haven't really been able to do before.

Let's say I buy a 64 GB 4S tonight.... could anyone hazard a guess as to what the resell price would be when the next iPhone hits in, say, 1 year?

iPhone 4Superunderwhelming

No big screen.

Okay so they don't want to use USB 3.0, which has been obvious with Apple, but they didn't add any thunderbolt features?
Not sure why you're shocked, apple has never really put the latest tech in their phones

$450 easily if you time it right. iPhone 4 is going for that price on craigslist and the 4S has already been announced. Time it just before the announcement of the iPhone 5 and I'd say $500 could be possible. Thats what I'm planning on doing.

edit: oh, you said 64gb. Hmm. More than $500.
