The next level of excitement is going to come from when people are getting mystery shipments early, or seeing if all of our shipments even get there on time.

I've got one Verizon phone and one AT&T phone both ordered from the carriers coming supposedly next Friday...curious to see if they both get there on time or at the same time.

Finally ordered the White 64GB with Three. £280 up front, £35/month for 2000/5000 (any/Three) minutes, 5000 texts and unlimited data. ^_^
have you been with Three before? they have utterly awful customer service, been charging me for a contract i don't use for over a year now as they won't let me cancel even though im out of contract period (they just hang up when i call them, sent them a letter and they claim my details are wrong on it even though i copeid and pasted off my account info on the web).

Quick question.

- If I preorder today, I can just go and pickup my phone on Wednesday?

- How do I carry over my existing contract? Going through this process looks like it wants you to select new options? I don't want to lose my unlimited data with AT&T.

No, first time with them. I have friends who use them who haven't had issues though so I'm not too worried - I guess I'll just have to hope I don't have any issues!

Also, £109 QuidCo for those that are thinking about it. :)

Ordered the 32GB 4S through Verizon's website -- which was really quite simple, even as a new customer transferring my phone number.

I guess I should probably call AT&T this week and let them know I'll be canceling my service.

anyone have any idea who will be hte best provider in the UK? currently with O2 but i'm up for changing.

You could try Tesco Mobile (when it's up for pre-order). They use o2 for their signal and the tariffs are really good.

I'm on their iphone 4 tariff on £25 a month and I get 250 mins, 5000 txts and 1gb of internet. So if they offer something like that on the 4S then it looks to be the best from all the other networks that have put there prices up.

Ok so my coworker said that I can preorder and pick it up in-store? I'm confused now, the website doesn't seem to give u that option. I dont think its true.

All clear with AT&T, confirmed the shipping address wasn't whatever that email sent, and the scary thing is that the dude on the phone couldn't figure out where that address came from. I'm thinking that it has something to do with the account address associated with my FAN number or something...but whatever!

It's shipping to the right address, and that's all that matters!

Ergh; just found out O2 aren't doing pre-orders at all and I can't queue up on Friday for the phone due to work so I guess I'm shafted unless there is oversupply.

Oh man...good thing I went through AT&T and didn't depend on that Apple.com reservation:

Dear Apple Customer,

Unfortunately, we were unable to complete the set up of your carrier account online and you will need to visit an Apple Retail Store in order to complete your iPhone purchase.
Click here to find your nearest Apple Store.

Thanks,
The Apple Store Team
Not sure if this implies that my reservation is still valid, they just can't do it online, or if I would have essentially lost my reservation and they are telling me to get one set up in a store.

Also entirely possible that me going through AT&T despite having a reservation messed things up....but either way, I'm good to go!

Hopefully not the case for everyone getting a reservation.

Your plans are amazingly cheap over the pond.
Yeah, I've been looking at some of the US pricing and it's crazy. Three are comfortably the cheapest over here though (all things considered) because they're the new kids on the block. I dare say we get comparatively shitty data speeds too.

And, success! I was able to reserve mine during the fracas at 3:30 a.m., but could not get my wife's order to go through. Luckily I was able to do that this morning and finished up my own order. All still shipping for Oct. 14, so - I'm happy! No standing in lines this year for me! :)

Also I did end up getting AppleCare+. Seems like a good enough value and it will be nice having coverage in case I do drop the phone. Maybe I can go without a case for a while. :)

I'm trying to order one from Verizon, and they're making me pick data plans and text message plans. I just want to stick with my old shit (unlimited). What did other people do?

I keep hearing Wednesday mentioned - it's Friday isn't it? iOS5 on Wednesday?

I can't really get to a store, that's why I'm getting it delivered.

Do you guys preorder because you don't want to wait in line on Wednesday?
Even if you pre-order for an instore pickup, you're looking at an hour wait in line minimum...and that's if you show up early.

Of course you could swing in later and pick it up with little to no hassle, but if you're getting it in store, what's the fun of waiting until later in the day?

That was the coolest thing about waiting in line to get my iPhone 4 (waited 12 hours to get it)...I was able to bring it into work and show it off day of instead of on Monday. Rubbing that juicy hot iPhone in everyone's faces. Mmm....

I don't want to deal with lines. Didn't some people get theirs early when they ordered online?

edit: I wonder if this is a mistake or what... So I ordered with my full upgrade discount. However, I can still process more orders with the same discount after my initial one. In other words, I can keep ordering phones at the subsidized rate :O

I wasn't given the option to pick up in store when I went thru Apples site.... Crud! It seemed like it'd only let me have it delivered.

Will I be out of luck if I just show up to a store early on Wed?

The 14th isn't Wednesday... wtf people!?

edit: I should have just highlighted it and said that yes you will be, as your phone won't be there. :lol

I think in-store pre-orders is/was an entirely different process. Friday is when the phone is coming out, though.

If you're going to try and line up without a pre-order, be prepared to be there stupid early depending on how popular your Apple Store is nearby. For the 4 I was planning on getting there 5 hours early...only to see online that people were reporting that on the news they saw 50+ people online already and it was 10PM the night before.

My advice to anyone trying to visit a store physically would be to check the MacRumor forums talking about the iPhone 4S launch. They typically have threads for every Apple Store in the country with a decent population and people report what's going on locally.

Without a pre-order...get there early, though. Early early.

I appreciate your help, even though I had my days mixed up. Thanks! lol.

Now I'm regretting going with white.

I dunno why, exactly; maybe the white version feels more like a toy. I like the way it looks, but I don't know if I want a white phone for the next two years.

I'm going to try and switch my order to the black model, as I know for sure that I like the look of that phone.

Damn you, my crippling indecisiveness.

Got my white 64G ordered! Was going to go with the 32, but I saw I had a $50 loyalty discount or something, so I technically only spent an extra $50 for the 64.

edit: ^^Get your dick on straight and stick with the white. Come on, man.

are you a woman? because whenever I have seen the white iPhone its owned by a woman

I'm trying to order from Sprint and they will not give me the discounted price???? I try and order and they tell me I can buy it with a "0 Year Contract" which means the phone is full price.....

If I want the 32GB version it's going to cost me 850 bucks!

WTF, I thought I could upgrade my phone after a year!!!

DAMN YOU SPRINT!!

I've been switching iPhone colors ever since I got into the iPhone game so they feel new to me always.

Black iPhone 3G
White iPhone 3GS
Black iPhone 4
White iPhone 4S

...I prefer white, they just didn't have them for the 4 on launch day. Not sure if I'll continue the trend or not, but it does help with the "newness" factor even though it's just a color.

I've also only seen women with white iPhones.

The reason I don't like white is because it looks like there is a frame around your content. Black gives the illusion your screen is floating in the air.

This. I've only owned black up to this point, so in a way ordering a white version gives me that "new" feeling since there wasn't going to be redesign. #shrug. Plus I like going against the grain.

Nope they changed it. It's something like 22 or 20 months now. I remember reading a little blurb on their site about it...

Found it:
As of 9/9/11, to receive a device offer, qualified customers are required to have 22 consecutive months since their last device discount. Customers upgrading on or after 10/2/11, the next device discount will be available after 20 consecutive months.

Anyone in Canada get an expected delivery date of next Friday? I ordered at 7 am est and expected delivery is the 24th-31st :(

I have a white iPad, so I was thinking synergistically, now I'm thinking I'd rather my phone be a low-profile accessory.

ordered my wife's this morning. tried really hard not to order one for my self. I lasted about 10 seconds and then ordered mine =|

I ordered this morning around 8:15 from apple and still do not have a confirmation email. Anyone else have this issue?

When you guys pre-order, do most of you choose free shipping or pay for shipping? I'm curious about the difference in actual delivery times.

As far as I know, AT&T and Verizon were both offering free release day delivery.
