Sprint finally got my upgrade figured out. White 32GB order placed, though I'll be surprised if I get it the 14th like the email said I would.

The checkout process let me order AppleCare+ right there, too, so I don't have to worry about calling Apple or going to the Apple store to get it.

Quick question to iPhone owners: is it possible to have multiple iTunes accounts be tied to a single (or multiple) devices? Since iTunes only lets you have one account per region, I want to have both a US account and a Japanese account. If I buy apps from both stores, will I be able to put them all on a single iPhone?

Yes. My wife and I each have our own accounts tied to each of our phones but she also uses my account for paid apps.

Yes. When you go into iTunes, you can sign out of your primary account and into a secondary one with your email and password. Once there, you can purchase/download whatever you want and keep them onto your phone.

I did this with a couple of songs/apps off the Japanese store and they're still on my phone.

How many iDevices can you have tied to a specific account? I see that you can have up to 5 computers 'allowed' per iDevice. My wife is getting an iPhone, too, and we'll probably get iPads at some point in the next year or two, but obviously I'd rather not purchase the same content multiple times.

They underclock the processor on the phone for battery purposes. It was the same with the iPad 1 (A4 1GHz) / iPhone 4 (A4 not disclosed clockspeed). The iPhone 3GS also had an underclocked processor.

Why does everyone recommend the Incipio case so often around here? What makes it so good? I've never had an iPhone so I don't understand why there are so many cases and differences between them. I mean if it fits it fits, right?

Well I imagine a lot of those pre-orders are coming from america where at the moment you can only buy it on a 2 year contract, so it's not that much money up front. Either way 400,000 more pre-orders then the 4 is impressive.

Last year's 600k figure included all launch partners, not just AT&T. The same holds true for today's 1 million figure.

I was off a bit.. more like $550-750. Apple gets that money whether you are on a 2 year contract or not.

Ya, but you make it sound like people are spending that much. They aren't. The cost that they see is $200 to $400. The price the end consumer see is much more important to the sales figure than what Apple gets out of it.

Jesus guys.. figure it the fuck out.. it's an Apple PR.. I said "Apple is a beast" and quoted how much money they'd get per device. My post was about Apple, not anyone else, not what customers pay, not what subsidies are there, etc. It's not difficult to figure out.

Regarding clock speed, Geekbench will always give you varied results. I get different figures on my iPad, ranging from 800 to 900 MHz because the OS is dynamically adjusting it. The 1 GHz figure is just the max it'll go.

When you're not doing anything intensive, it'll automatically reduce it to save battery.

Aren't iPhones the exact same price no matter where you buy them?

Also, how do we know the providers are paying the full cost for each of their phones? I have a hard time believing providers are shelling out $850 each when the buy hundreds of thousands of the devices at a time. Surely subsidize some of the cost for customers that sign new contracts, but are they really paying Apple the full price (the price customers who buy off contract pay) for each device?

They indirectly report ASP (average selling price) in their quarterly results. Last quarters average iPhone ASP (both the 4 and 3GS) was $650.

Ya, but you seem to either ignore or under value the point of the price the actual customers see which affects how many they sell. The lower price is one of the main reasons you see so many preorders. If Apple sold them at $600 to $800 a pop, you can bet preorders would be smaller in number. Ignoring the price point the customer sees is ignoring one of the reasons that the number of preorders is so high.

These devices have little to no markup. Apple is that way for pretty much all of their devices.
