Here are some of my favorite examples from experimenting with Siri:

Me: “I’m drunk.”

Siri: “I found a number of cabs fairly close to you.” (Perfect; it didn’t dial my ex-girlfriend.)

Me: “I have a flat tire.”

Siri: “I found 14 towing services. 12 of them are fairly close to you.”

Me: “Remind me to steal a ream of paper when I arrive at the office.”

Siri: “Here’s your reminder for when you get to work: Steal a ream of paper. Shall I create it?”

Me: “I’m going to kill myself.”

Siri: “I found four mental health agencies. Three of them are fairly close to you.” (This was just a test — don’t be alarmed.)

lol..

Despite that I was up until 3:30am Thursday night, and then up again at 6am Friday morning, the end result of me trying to get my iPhone pre-ordered early is this:

I had to go in to the store to get it done, and 11:30am was the earliest they could see me.
I'm guessing I won't be seeing my phone for another couple of weeks? That kinda makes me mad, but I guess it's just a phone. I'm more anxious to be able to sell the one I'm using currently, really.
BAH.
Does anyone else have the same screen from AT&T (when doing the search for your order using order number + zip code on AT&T's site) yet is able to confirm the shipment of your phone? I'd love to know that this info is just misleading, and that my phone may still be here on Friday. Anyone?

Well you can't take a knife to it the way you can with Invisible Shields. But they feel so much better.

I do not. Bareback, baby!
You were about to go on my ignore list.... I've only ever used it for numble and that was only like three days

But there’s a new wrinkle that potentially makes the international-roaming experience better on Sprint and Verizon iPhones than it is on AT&T. Sprint plans to sell the iPhone 4S with its micro-SIM slot unlocked; Verizon’s will be initially locked, but if you’ve been a customer in good standing for 60 days, you can call Verizon and ask for an “international unlock.” (A Verizon spokesperson told me that this is Verizon’s standard policy for all world phones—it’s just the first time it’s manifested itself on an iPhone.)
Wow, nice.

I am getting the same screen except I don't have anything in the back order column. Like you I was the first one in my store friday morning and I think its BS that dudes who camp in line get theres B4 pre-orders.

I am going to my store tomorrow and bitch. Also UPS has not been able to find anything on mine, so I am pretty pissed.

"The truth is, once you start using Siri in earnest, you’ll discover where its boundaries are. It’s great at working with text messages, but not with email. It knows a lot about weather and restaurants but nothing about movie times. Apple says that understanding the words you say is the easy part, and that Siri’s true genius is in figuring out what you want when you say those words and getting you the answer. If that’s true, Siri needs to be tied in to many more information sources and apps. (Including third-party apps, which are not capable of tying into Siri today.)"

In other words, I think Siri will fall in line with most of our expectations. Some good, practical use but nothing earth-shattering. Movie times would have been nice.

It would be awesome if Apple allowed third-party apps to use Siri.

In preparation for getting an iPhone, is there a big iOS App recommendation thread on GAF? I'd like the game recommendations, but I also just wanna know about some cool apps that are nice and useful to have, or just fun.

Or do you guys have any recommendations?

This is just the beginning though. I think the least anyone could say about the product as it's been shipped out the door is that it has promise.

Man, I'm not a big fan of iOS, to be quite honest, but I'll be damned if any android phone comes close to looking as good in the design department as the 4/4s, except maybe the nexus prime and galaxy s II.

I would totally jump ship if I liked iOS more, what with the design and battery life (apple devices seem to have great battery life. it can't be that difficult for other manufacturers!).

Gah. Decisions decisions. It's mighty tempting, especially since my contract is up for renewal.

Any idea how available these phone will be if I didn't preorder?
Do you like lining up in parking lots late Thursday evening waiting for a store to open on Friday morning? If you do, they should be very available!

I've never had to camp overnight for the iPhone. Always there by no later than 6am though. Any later than that and it's a crapshoot.

I'm excited about the phone and Siri, but do we have to see every review video ask about the fucking weather, we know it can find the weather. Ask it a hard question.

Could you elaborate as to your major issues with iOS? I have an iPhone 4 and 3 android phones, and really, overall, there's very little advantages android has, apart from customizability, etc which I couldn't care less about (especially with iOS5). The biggest thing about iOS is the appstore, which has, by far, the best quality apps out there. It's really no content in that regard. And I think that's become a more important consideration than the OS itself.

I don't really care about it doing bizarre stuff. I care about it doing the mundane stuff reliably. I want to be able to slur "getmeupatsix" when I collapse into bed and plunge into blissful sleep without worrying I'll be awoken by my boss calling to fire me at 8:45.

Yeah what's the point of asking Siri crap that Apple already demoed? That's why I liked Wired's review with the bizarre questions, it's awesome/hilarious to see that Siri recommends nearby mental health agencies when someone says "I'm gonna kill myself" and such.

Quite frankly, I really enjoy tinkering with my gadgets, and Android certainly let's me do that a lot easier than iOS. I have my phone set up in a way that I can get most of the important information (weather, texts, latest email, news, and sports scores) without having to go into an actual app. I love me some widgets.

I've been reading comments on iPhoneinCanada.ca and it's slowly dawning on me that there's almost no chance I'll get the phone this Friday... :( Everyone's saying that it ships on Friday.... :(

I don't see it happening anytime soon given that ATT hasn't unlocked any of the previous iPhones.

The competition also didn't unlock theirs, or need to, but if the other two are, ATT should fall right in line, otherwise they will lose alot of sales.

Logging in is integrated into iOS, so you don't have to authorize 10 different twitter apps. But that is it.
You can also send a photo to twitter rig from the photo/camera app. This is a great feature of the integration.

Do you need the Twitter app installed to use the Twitter integration? Still kinda confused about it. What if I only have Tweetbot? Would it use that app then?

I don't really like using Twitter for iPhone

Not yet, Apple didn't release the Siri api to third parties yet =(

That will be awesome when that finally happens.
Yeah, my followers who already complain I tweet too much are going to LOVE ME EVEN MORE.
