Under AppleCare+ the cost of replacing a broken phone is $148. The cost of replacing two broken phones is $197. Without AppleCare+ the cost of replacing a broken phone is $199 and the cost of replacing two broken phones is $398.

If you don't need any replacements, the cost of AppleCare+ is $99 and the cost without is (of course) 0$. However, AppleCare+ provides other services... free repairs of parts for an additional year, including the battery, and phone support.

I don't think it's a bad deal at all.

The $49 replacement cost is if they determine you damaged it correct? I would hope so cuz it's even worse if it's any replacement. Under that assumption, how often are you breaking your phone? AppleCare+ is great if you're in some sort of circumstance or situation where you're highly likely to break your phone. But for normal everyday people, what are the odds? Are you really at fault for breaking your phone twice within a cycle? If the phone is constantly failing, why would I want to invest in a company who puts out shoddy quality phones that I constantly need to get it repaired? Most defects that aren't your fault will happen within the first 90 days and definitely within a year which the normal warranty covers.

Again, unless you plan to break your phone at least once every phone cycle, AppleCare+ does not work in your favor. I've had seven cell phones in my life and I've only ever lost one once and never broke any of them let alone had any of them fail within the term of the contract. If I had spent $99 over that period, I'd be out $700 that got me nothing. Had I broke one of them in that cycle, I'd be out $750 instead of $200. The math doesn't add up the longer you use it unless you break your phone constantly.

Strictly sticking to an iPhone, I've had a 3G, and a 4 so far. My wife is a complete klutz and has had a 3G and a 4. Neither of them broke or got damaged to the point of not working. The worst thing that had happened was a month before the 4 came out, my wife dropped her 3G without her case on and cracked the shell a bit but it still worked fine. Between the two of us, that would have been $400 spent that went nowhere. Even if one of us replaced once, that's $450 vs $200.

I just don't see how AppleCare+ is worth it in the long run unless you have a bad habit or luck of breaking your phone constantly. You're better off just paying the $199 replacement fee.

Skim through some of the early pages of this topic, lots of links. Or just go to YouTube.

Just got word my preorder will be in store tomorrow for pickup.. f yeah

I had doubts that I would receive it on launch day because when I placed my order at att.com around 10:00pm Friday night the site specifically said that my Iphone would ship in approximately 14-21 days after the order process and went I got confirmation email.

But I just got UPS shipping confirmation email from AT&T Premier!!!

Scheduled Delivery:
Friday, 10/14/2011, by 3:00 P.M.(by end of day for residential deliveries)

Last Location:
DFW Airport, TX, United States, Thursday, 10/13/2011

ATT pulled through for me... So hyped right now! ^_^!

got my shipping notice!! package is shipped! ordered from apple.ca. all canadians look out!

says it shipped from: Shenzhen, China 10/13/2011, local time 13:00.

Is it possible this gets here by friday?

shipped ups worldwide express. website says that is usually next day or 2 days. Friday looks likely!!

My phone company (Fido) doesn't know shit.. and I'm 398 in line for the 64gb white (ordered 20 mins after preorders started). At this point I'm wondering if the launch day is a dream, and I won't get one for weeks..

I have a feeling this could be Wii level incident :P The whole Steve Jobs thing, plus 15 months pent-up demand since last iPhone, has led to record pre-order numbers for this "mere upgrade of the 4".

Are carrier stores selling them on Friday? Maybe wait outside a Fido store and get it that way? Does Fido have retail stores? Dont think I've seen one.

There are a billion in Vancouver. I think they're going all online pre-order through... and like I said, I'm position 398 :P (which I think is actually a pretty good number considering how early I got in). If they fail me, it's a raw deal, because I'm too late at most other stores.

yeah carriers are carrying them. I've ordered from Apple, but going to store on the 14th, and if i get one canceling my apple order.

Softbank called to say I can pick it up tomorrow morning at 8, which is 17.5 hours from now. In other words, they received the shipment.

Damn! When did you pre-order? I pre-ordered Sunday and they said they'd call eventually... <cries>

Softbank is in Japan... so basically, he's from the Future! (timezones)

edit: wait now that i read again you clearly know it's softbank so you are in the future? -_-

No... no... that's impossible.....!

They only sell the full price unlocked iPhone on the Apple.ca store (first world Canadian problems)... but I assume they can do all the local carrier setups in the store?

Damn I should probably leave right now :P

Ill never understand why people prefer standing in line over ordering online.

The Apple Store makes me uncomfortable. I don't like shopping at a place where employees are cooler than me.

Yup they'll set you up with fido in the apple store. (call first to confirm cause I'm just guessing here lol)

DO IT!

If you don't hear anything by midnight tomorrow (today - Thursday) then I'd head down to the apple store soon after.

I mean, I wouldn't personally wait in line for hours to get it. But if u want it that bad!

I waited outside Virgin Records for 18 hours to see Kojima for the MGS4 launch. I promised myself I'd never wait in line for something ever again.

Dear lord what have you done... Now that I am aware of the possibility of lining up, it really might happen!

I went and pre-ordered at the local Softbank store last Friday at 4 pm when pre-orders started. I was half an hour early, so I was first in line. By the time I left, line ticket #18 or so had been handed out.

Yes, I am in the future. No, I'm not going to send you the next lottery numbers.

Because you'll have it in 30 minutes to an hour rather than several days shipping time (and cost), and then waiting on the UPS/Fed Ex driver to make it to your home on the day of delivery? What's not to get?

Longest I've waited at the 5th Ave store was an hour for the 3GS, I believe... and that was almost around the block. The lines look crazy in pictures but they move at a brisk pace at the 5th Ave store.

My carrier offers me an insurance in cases of damages to the iPhone from water, dirt, letting it fall down, for 80€ for 2 years.

Worth it?

I bought it. I guess it's better than the original Apple warranty...
Still, without a shipped iPhone I probably don't need it. :(

Are the lines at carrier stores generally smaller than those at Apple stores?

I saw that too and was pretty stoked, but then worried that I didn't have a case already figured out and ordered!

Then I got my "your order shipped" email and it says I'm going to receive it on the 19th :(

Now I'm looking at UPS tracking and it says delivery scheduled on the 14th! So I may have to work from home that day...

Mines still stuck on the shipping label created message. I grow more and more worried by the minute. I doubt I'll get it tomorrow. :/

Why does Sprint, Apple, UPS and God hate me? :(

Patrick Bateman said:
Well, it says "Frachtführer übergeben". I hope that means "shipping".

Yes. Mine still says processing. Since Saturday... :( What's your model and did you use a premiere-ticket?

I got my shipping confirmation early this morning. My phone will be here tomorrow. I am so happy that I can rid of this Android phone!

Yeah, same here. Mine says the scheduled delivery is monday before noon (!). I've never seen a before noon before, so that's good, I guess.

If I get it on Monday I don't really care - I'll stay home until it gets here then I'll head to work. :)
