Well, I always have all sound turned off. Period. But I just tapped out a message with the sound on by accident and it seemed a lot easier to type. I mean, I type really really quickly too but I felt like I was more accurate.

I guess it does make sense, since there is more feedback.

Just booked an appointment with the Genius Bar tomorrow to have my screen checked out. If they do replace my phone, am I getting a new one or refurbished?

New. If they pull any shit, just return the thing and buy a new one. You're within the "return for any reason" window.

Returning might not be a viable option since it wasn't purchased at an Apple Store. It's also unlocked, but according to Apple's records, it's a carrier-locked phone. I'm confused as hell.

So had to use my iphone headphones for the first time. Surprised that they aren't complete shit.

They actually sounded... decent?

Yup, they are not bad. They are what I used for going back and forth to class. I have some nice audio technicas for home use, but for day to day running the apple buds are good enough.

Soo, owners of lifeproof cases do you guys know of any techniques to remove the air bubbles that appear in between the screen and the case? Extremely, extremely annoying. Amazing case otherwise though.

Alright, so my hatred for iTunes is immense. Hopefully someone can help me figure this out.

When I'm trying to send stuff from iTunes, on my PC, to my iPhone for the first time, I'm getting a message that my iPhone is synced to another library. Everything I have on the phone was from when Verizon imported my contacts, or bought directly from the phone. It says I have to "Erase & Sync" to this computer. I really don't want to lose my contacts and have to redownload 10 gigs of apps over my shitty internet connection.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Is there any way for me to back up my phone without it being "synced" to this particular iTunes account? All I want to do is copy some god damn music over. HALP!

You should be able to right click the phone in iTunes and pick transfer purchases, that'll associate it with your iTunes library.

Make sure syncing is not automatic, and do tr transfer stuff first.

Also, backup to iCloud. If all else fails after transferring purchases, restore from that backup and it should migrate over the purchases from iTunes to your phone fine and also fully associate it with the library.

The "Erase & Sync" is just about media-content and not about Contacts/Calendars unless you tell iTunes to Sync those from your computer.

Right-click on the phone in the left column, transfer your purchases and then have iTunes resync (it will delete the stuff from each category that you are trying to transfer to the phone first, but after the first time you are set)

Damnit. iPhone slipped out of my pocket and now there are scuffs on the side. I was planning on taking it to the apple store because the battery drain is nuts. Do you think they'll turn me away because od it ?

You running 5.1? It's fixed any battery issues I had with mine, now lasts days before a charge is needed.

My brother just got a 4S but he's not able to download free apps without entering a credit card.

Anyone know what he can do to fix this?

He's already tried changing his payment method to "none" but that option isn't there.

Enter the credit card info, save, edit, remove credit card info, change payment method to "none", save.

I think this is what I did when I had the same issue.

Argh.

My phone's sound stops working and thinks it's in headphone mode. Is this a known glitch or do I need to return the phone. I've had it about 2 months and it's been doing this for about 3 weeks of it.

Maybe check the headphone socket, make sure there's nothing loose in there? Could be something against the pin that makes it think headphones are plugged in. Or plug headphones in and take them out, maybe even see if anything comes through said headphones.

I had a problem last week where the volume would decrease by itself when the Headphones were in and when I put my phone in my messenger bag and I moved. Took it to the Apple store and they replaced it.

Save your frustration. Book a genus bar appointment. Tell them it has been happening for weeks, and are running the latest software. They might suggest a wipe and restore, just tell them you tried that too. You should get a new one.

Yeah i left it on without touching it for about 12 hours...no push, nothing...battery life dropped 40 percent. Thats not normal right ?

Mine drops maybe 2-5% in that time with 7 push email accounts among other stuff running.

I'd try a restore to iron out any errant processes then if that doesn't work exchange it.

My boyfriend's 3G did this exact same thing, took it to genius bar and they just exchanged it. Never found out what the cause was. Am surprised the 4S has this glitch. You cannot fix it, just take it in and get a new one.

So my phone is ready for upgrade and has been for a few weeks. It's a Galaxy S on AT&T and it's in poo condition. It's needed to be replaced for ~6 months, but I've been too far out to upgrade without exorbitant fees. I think I'm done with Android as I've had a terrible experience with it on this phone.

Enter iPhone.

Is it worth upgrading to the 4S right now, or should I just get the 4 (are the features of the 4S enough to warrant the higher price)? I know the 5 will probably be coming in the fall, but I really can't wait to get a new phone. Like, it's not that I'm too excited and am getting ahead of myself, it's literally that my phone is a piece of shit and barely works anymore.

What say you GAF?

As a google-heavy user, should I avoid the iPhone? I've noticed that Gmail notifications don't work, and there doesn't seem to be a free Talk replacement (with notifications).

I'm pretty much only on Android still because I use the fuck out of Gmail and Talk all day long.

Google sync uses the exchange active sync to push email, calendars and contacts. I used it for two years on the iphone before iCloud came out and it works very well. takes around 3 or 4 steps to setup and google tells you how to their google sync website.

this part works very well

I have zero idea how google talk works on iPhone. maybe that will be the dealbreaker? there may be some IM clients that hook into it and then use the apple push notifications to deliver messages. someone else can answer this one.

lol just saw someone drop their iphone and the screen cracked.

I think I need to put on a case again ;/

Any recommendations for a slim enough, easily accessible buttons, and not ugly?

Same boat. I dropped mine and chipped the edge. Luckily I had other problems with it so the Apple store replaced it.

My naked experiment is over.

I use this now:

I was doing some research and saw that the biggest differences between the 4S and 4 happen to be the camera and Siri. Is this true?

If so, minus Siri, is the camera that much of an upgrade over the 4 to make it worth the additional price?

If you're on a 4 right now, I would recommend just holding on until this years iPhone gets revealed. The 4S is a great phone, but in my eyes it's not a must have upgrade.

I'm not on any at the moment.

Love Applecare. Got my back glass pane replaced after it cracked. Been going caseless since the 3G, but I think I need a case now.

Any good case recommendations, ones that fit an Apple dock?

After a horrible 8 month odyssey with a Droid, I just got an iPhone today. Any new Apps / games I missed over last 6 months I should absolutely check out?

Exact same thing happened to me last week. I read someone online about "plug in and unplug your headphones over and over again until the phone realizes there are no headphones plugged in" and that didn't work. I also restarted the phone a couple times to see if that would fix it.

I was planning to take it and exchange it the next day, so I just left my phone charging overnight (as usual) and the next morning it had fixed itself. It hasn't happened since.

Apple products are not infallible, despite their reputation. On top of that headphone glitch, I'm also having problems where when I leave my house each morning and lose my wifi signal, the phone WILL NOT switch over to 3G (sorry, 4G...) mode. Only completely restarting the phone will make the 3G activate. Otherwise it just won't load anything. And unlike the headphone thing which happened once (so far), this problem has happened a lot more often.

Those two problems are significant.

I don't know which reputation you're referring to. Apple and their products have never had a reputation for being infallible. Any such rep is one you're projecting for them.

Draw Something. But that's also on Android. It's the current flavor of the month game. Everyone is playing it.

This is probably a dumb question, but is it possible to pull data from a clean, reformatted iPhone? I ask because my dad is thinking about selling his 3GS to get the 4S but is paranoid about the buyer being able to hack the phone and access his passwords, personal info, etc. I told him such an issue is unheard of but he's worried that since the iPhone is a "pocket PC" a person might be able to hack it as they could a reformatted Windows PC.

Can anyone elaborate/provide a source explaining why this isn't possible?

When you wipe the phone it's essentially a reformat of what's on the phone. You lose everything.

Hello everyone, thinking of picking up one of these in a few weeks. Any advice on screen protectors? I am in the UK and normally use eBay or amazon. Recently got one for Vita and it is horrible because it leaves fingerprints everywhere so don't mind spending a bit extra to get a decent one!

Also what are the more reliable cases? I don't want anything too bulky but something that I know will protect it well.

I use the ZAGG screen protector on mine. The only problem I know of is after a long period of time (by then you'd get a new phone anyway) some people have reported that the film yellows slightly

After playing with a 4 and a 4S in the store today, I've decided the 4S is the way to go. It's easily worth the extra $100. I don't have a digital camera, so my phone IS my camera, and the 4S cam is noticeably crisper and faster over the 4. At least for the display models it was. :|

That's the main reason I upgraded to the 4S. My photos are noticeably better than on the 4, even when Facebook compresses and downscales them.

I'd spend the extra $100 for the 4S even if the camera was the only upgrade.
