i'm having trouble getting an answer from the apple site:

if i sell my touch, but i bought a bunch of apps, can i redownload them to a new touch down the road? or are those apps tied to one device?

Should be tied to your account and not the device.

yeah, so when i checked my itunes purchase history, it gave me a list but no real indication that i could download anything again. how would i go about that?

is there a known bug related to push email? both my girlfriend's and my phone decides to randomly check to see if there is new email for us. sometimes we get it right when it's sent, other times it doesn't show up until we force it to check for email. when we got up this morning, my girlfriend's phone had not checked for email since 1030 last night.

we both have the phone switch to wi-fi when we're in our condo, is that a problem? could some of the apps we downloaded somehow have messed with this feature?

I've noticed that push e-mail doesn't always come in from my exchange server in a timely manner when I'm connected to a wifi AP here at the office.

However, it is always instant when I'm using the cellular network.

Did you download the apps with your touch or did you use iTunes and sync them? If you used the touch you can transfer purchases over to your computer. If you used iTunes they should already be on your computer.

ah, so if they stay in itunes, i can just up them to any new touch or iphone i like? good.

Can someone do me a favor and take a few pictures from close up on the power button?

I think mine is stuck down...I can't really tell because i had a case on it, and took it off...so the button feels different. It looks like its pushed down on the right side..

it could be the wi-fi, but from what i've been reading today it's really about yahoo's servers. i probably should have mentioned i was talking about yahoo mail. apparently it's been very hit and miss with them since the launch of the first iphone.

this blows because i was hoping to avoid having to pay for texting.

I have 2 year apple care, should i get it fixed now..or wait a year and then do it?

i have a 3g iphone that was dropped and now the touchscreen doesnt work.

i dont have a receipt or anything. ive tried resetting it and restoring it, nothing works is there any fix for this because im pretty sure apple wont just give me another one

Mine looks like that too. But the button works, so I really don't care too much. If it ever becomes a performance issue I'll go exchange it.

It's within the 30 days, im thinking i could get it swapped out at the att store, or i could just wait a bit and use my applecare in a year or so

it's just annoying..because I JUST put on my 25 dollar bestshield ever...

You must pay to fix damage that's your own fault like that I believe.
That sucks. I'm super careful with mine, especially since I don't use a case.

:lol, that hardly lasted a week! And you already trashed the receipt?

Good thing you already gave your life away. Bring it back to a Genius Bar, explain. They'll take care of it. Otherwise, you're in your 30 day window to just return it and forget about it.

lol. i didnt buy the iphone. my bro has 2(dont ask me why) this one broke and he said i can have it.

EDIT: nvm, he just told me its not a 3g iphone... now what do i do with it?

Am I the only one experiencing shoddier reception with the 3G? I can't recall having as many issues with the OG iPhone.

outside i get good 3g reception, but when i'm at home 3g only gets me 2-3 bars at most. if i switch off 3g at home, the edge network gets me 4-5 bars (plus interference with my computer speakers).

Apple can fix it for $150.

Same here. Usually 2 bars on 3G if I'm lucky when I'm at home. I get no 3G while at work -- I switch to Edge and it falls back to GPRS most of the day. Then again I work in the bowels of an all-brick building that has a parking area above me. Soon as I go to a different area of the building everything's fine (and I'm moving shortly to the other side of the space so I'll have 3G over there).

so i have an original iphone [unlocked/tmobile] and my friend was supposed to sell me his [need a 2nd to unlock for my sister] and he just told me that he upgraded to 2.0 and isnt buying a 3g....bastard

Yes, you're the ONLY ONE who has that problem.

You're in San Francisco, iirc. I'm in San Francisco. 3G reception here is spotty at best. Get used to it until AT&T installs more towers.

Use your iPhone to learn kanji!

I thought this might be a worthwhile note for other owners, given the high number of Japanese-learners on this forum.

chinese-handwriting-recognition-iphone.jpg

Sadly, it's only included in Chinese, but if you turn on Chinese traditional you can practice the vast majority of Japan's characters.

I've currently got my kanji book in one hand and my iPhone in the other. Even though not everything is a perfect match, given it's actually targeting traditional chinese (stroke order especially differs on several characters), this is a pretty fun way to practice characters, even just as a scratch pad. I've got the otherwise worthless Notes app up and I'm drawing away on that.

anyone else having problems when right clicking on iPhone in iTunes to backup the phone?

whenever I do it it goes through the long process of backing up but then when it finishes and I check to see the last backup it is some old unknown backup never the most recent one the last recent one listed is July 10 the night I tried that leaked 2.0 restore version that didn't work for me by the way. And I positive it has gone through at least 3 different backups since the app store went up and i sync with this laptop.

Anyone have any ideas or help?
Running Vista

edit:NM I fixed it by resetting sync history and deleting all backups one by one, I was just worried about losing all contacts since every once in a while iPhones syncing with itunes results in having to restore to factory settings.

Goddamn fucking Apple store employees. I waited 3 hours after work to get one, finally get up and pick a 16 GB Black 3G iPhone to replace my 1st gen 8GB and the Apple employee tells me "oh sorry, you seem to have a business discount associated with your phone". I think to myself, "what the fuck? I don't remember any discounts on any of my bills". He then tells me they used to be able to call up ATT and have them remove it on the spot, but can't anymore and that I'd have to buy the phone at an ATT store. I left the store pretty shocked.

I get home and give ATT customer service a call to give them hell about a discount the system says I have but I'm not getting. The guy on the line apologizes profusely, removes the block over the phone. Then I think to myself, why the fuck didn't the Apple guy just tell me I could do it over the phone myself?

So I call up the Apple store again (it's just before closing) and ask him why the guy told me they couldnt remove the block over the phone. Another Apple employee on the phone says he was clearly mistaken, and that they had been removing the blocks all day and that the process only takes a couple minutes. He apologizes and says to come in tomorrow and explain my story to the manager and hopefully they'll have stock in and I won't have to wait in line, but he couldn't guarantee anything.

Little fucktards. I wish there was a magazine rack in there so I could push it over on the way out.

I have a lot of gripes about the new iPhone, but damn it if I would be trapped at coat check with any other phone on a slow night like this.

There is one thing that would make life easier. The link is fine, but I also need some way to navigate from the thread to the messages for a thread. While I could build the URL based off what you're sending me - it would become a hardcoded way to do things.

Easily fixed. I've added the <posts> tag. Let me know if you need anything else. I'm still kinda fixing threads that contain CODE snippets so that might change still.

Also, please keep in mind that I prefer not to host this these PHP scripts should you decide to submit this app to the store. I doubt my server could take the punishment. Better to get NeoGAF.com or someone else to host these files. We can cross that road when we get to it. For now, my scripts can feed your program for testing purposes.

My home button is fucked. I have to press down very hard for it to work so it's a pretty shitty experience. Just passed the one year mark too, so I guess it'll be as much as it would cost to buy a new iPhone for Apple to repair it.

That's the last time I buy anything Apple without AppleCare :|

arrghh...

So some of you might remember the issues I was having with my vvm. Anyway AT&T was able to fix that, but now I am having another issue.

It seems that when people call me and I either force the call right to vm or let it go to vm on its own, the phone makes a click noise and my vm message never plays, but the phone does capture the vm.

So now all my friends are calling me and then sending me a text message saying my vm is not working.

Anyone ever have this problem? I assume I am going to have to call Apple again... YAY!!!

Seems more like an AT&T issue than Apple.

I was told by an AT&T person that it'd cost $175 to cancel the contract after buying the 3G iPhone.

She also said I could keep the phone. Was she wrong?
I'd trade up for that cost minus selling my old phone.

Ordered my iPhone 3G yesterday. This'll be my first. I also ordered an InvisibleSHIELD for it as well.

For anyone that's interested, use "PCWORLD20" in the promo code field for 20% off.

The InvisibleSHIELD for the 3G and old iPhones are different so dont make the same mistake I did and order the incorrect one. =\

Your original iPhone was "bought" - as there was basically no subsidy. So yeah, you would keep it. The 3G is subsidized so I'm not sure how that would work if you did the same with it later though.

Yeah, I know I'd keep my old phone hehe.

I just thought you'd have to give the 3G phone back after canceling the contract.... say next day. Or perhaps it takes a month?

I wouldn't mind paying the premium. The 3Gs will be unlocked very soon.

That looks really cool. I just ordered one so hopefully it gets here in a week (did free shipping)

I thought the problem with "unlocking" the 3Gs was that they wouldn't work with T-Mobile network for some hardware reason?

Oh really? I haven't read that about that yet. I think once the baseband is unlocked, it should work fine.

Oh, and I learned you need to keep the phone at least a month before you can cancel and keep the 3G phone.
Still seems like a worthwhile deal to me.

What's the best Movie showtime app? I see about a dozen, most free, at least one is $3.00. I've tried a couple and both are good, but have features exclusively that I wish were all encompassing(one has trailers, other has ticket purchasing, etc...)

WHAT SAY YOU IPHONE OWNERS???
