just got mine 16 gig and got a few questions

MMS?

how can I send MMS?

Email, I got hotmail how can I use that on the Email button?

MSN?
any program out there yet that let me use MSN on my iphone?

Video, how can I record video?
MMS is a big no, Apple still might technically have the option to enable it in software updates, but doesn't seem too keen on it since you have fully-functioning email on the phone.

Hotmail does not use either industry standards of POP or IMAP, and thus isn't supported by the iPhone or iPod touch, since MS doesn't release the specs for it (is anyone seeing a pattern here? Is it perfectly clear why people hate Microsoft and Windows yet?!)

And yeah, Palringo is it for now with MSN, until something like Adium or Apollo gets a proper App Store port.

And yeah, no video either, but once again, seems like it's a potential update away. MAYBE.

seems that Palringo is not what I am looking for, I need a MSN that can be run in the background while I do other stuff.....

thanks Seth C for the help, I guess I have to wait for a MSN.

but how to set up the Hotmail email account to the email button on the Iphone is not working for me, according to the apple site it seems I cant register a Hotmail account to the email as it is not supporting something...

Hotmail doesn't support IMAP or POP. You need to buy a paid Windows Live Mail Plus account for POP support or buy an IzyMail subscription.

It seems that Hotmail isn't supported, you're right. You could have your Hotmail forward to another account (Gmail or Yahoo perhaps) and then set that up on your iPhone. As for MSN running in the background? That isn't going to happen. However, once Apple's push service is up and working you may get similar functionality. We'll see.

Until then, Palringo will stay active while you lock the phone, so it may help you get by. And it also maintains a connection for a few minutes after you close it, so long as you do not run any other app (you can check e-mail and things like that). So you can close it to do other things (text, e-mail, phone call) and then re-open it and your connection should still be alive.

1. You can't sent MMS. Sorry. You can e-mail it though!
2. You should just be able to set it up in the app?
3. Palringo supports AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and others.
4. No video. Sorry again!

I do not think the iphone supports hotmail unless you have the pay version of hotmail. I THINK. And you can't get to hotmail via the browser on the iphone either (stupid MS)!

i know this question's kind of out there, but:

has anyone played futurewars on their version of scummvm? i can't seem to figure out how to bring up a menu to save a game.

i know its not exactly an iphone, but i'm going to be getting an ipod touch next week probably.

is it worth it to spend the extra 100 bucks for another 8 gigs? does the ipod touch have access to the apps and stuff the iphone has?

Yes, the Touch can run the same Apps, for the most part. It can't run the ones that require the camera or the microphone obviously.

And really, you should wait a month. New Touches are on the horizon.

has anyone tried this new tether app that lets you use your iphone as an internet provider for your computer?

I'm very curious on how many K a second you can upload on 3g through an iphone.

You can access hotmail through safari on the iPhone. At least I can.

eh, what's happening is that i'd be getting an iMac for like 1100 at my student store on campus, and it would come with the ipod touch 8gb for free (after rebate, of course :P), would have to get applecare for like 100 and then i'd get a printer for free as well.

the imac is a 24 inch, 2.8ghz, 500gb hard drive, and 2 gigs of ram. that's what it said on the box.

Ahh... I see. My sister got one of the free ones as well. Just thought if you were buying the Touch on it's own, it might be worth waiting to see what they have in store with the new ones. BTW, that's the same iMac that I have, and it's awesome. You'll love it.

Carry on... :D

(you gotta click the link to the app store as searching for it there will give you nothing...)

and many people have used it, check macrumor's forums for links to/tutorials on how to set up your computer for it

I posted on this earlier today, and gave a direct link in my post. Searching the App Store still brings it up for me. You can go right out and grab it.

yeah, i was totally planning on getting a Touch when there was an 80gb version available. I have a 60gb "video" iPod, so i would need something bigger to make it worth it. the functionality by itself isn't worth it to me...but since its basically free, that makes it different.

i might just use the touch i get for just the apps. hopefully there's some free stuff i can actually use.

but do you think its worth spending another 100 to get the extra 8 gb? i'm inclined to do it, since i think i'll get more use out of it, but its not like i'm exactly made of money.

so i finally upgraded to 2.0 just recently and bought super monkey ball and motionxpoker thing. gotta say, monkey ball is pretty hard to control.

anyway, what are the must have apps available? sorry if i missed this discussion, the thread is huge.

Wouldn't be robertsan without the whole dumb blonde angle. :P

Any word on a Netflix app?

I found Dashbuster, but I'm not too keen on the whole $4.99 angle.

Though if I have to, I would plunk down for it.

Is there any website with a bunch of free ring tones? I see the ring tone makere in here, but I'd like to see what otheres are pumping out (and i'm lazy.)

The only reason I'm interested in jailbreaking is for wallpapers on springboard. Looks like the time is now.

I use video wallpaper myself...

Will I lose all of my stored contacts if I jailbreak? Also...is there any risk to jailbreaking? I really want the NES emulator everywhere I go, but just am not convinced it's the smartest thing to do. I can't risk bricking my phone for work.

Not if you backup before doing so.

No real risk.

The NES emu is nothing compared to all the other apps on offer once you JB it.

Iphone does a backup of all all that everytime you sync so you should be fine.

like what?

vWallpaper - Plays a video as your wallpaper. Looks really cool if you have the right ones
Wallpaper - Shows you wallpaper that other people are using and lets you save them
Video Recorder - Self Explanatory
Swap Library - Allows you to have an alternate ipod playlist so you can sync your music w/ more than one computer
Ringtones - Make ringtones on the fly with music already on your phone
iSIM - Copy/Move/Delete contacts that are on your SIM
MxTube - Allows you to save YouTube videos (is there one of these for iphone.dailymotion.com?)
Customize - Alter just about anything on the iPhone from an aesthetic standpoint

I could go on and on.

Plus it's all free.

I'm finding it difficult to get my little monster guy to go where I want him to go. I wonder if it is this screen protector I have.

I doubt it - I just bought it and find it very difficult to control as well. It's a little unintuitive compared to most other iphone games. Glad I only paid $6 for it, but still, I'd like the controls to be a litttle more natural.
