Open iTunes, click podcasts, find a podcast, then instead of trying to download it, double tap the title and it'll open MobileQuickTime and start streaming it.

I'm seriously wondering if this is an oversight on Apple's part... (concerning the bandwidth issues)
dude thats the most epic shit ive ever seen

If my phone is unlocked, I need to wait until a new version of QuickPwn comes out don't I? The new firmware update will brick it?

How do I make sure that iTunes doesn't try to sneak in an auto-update while I'm idling or listening to music?

This does work, and it's pretty cool when I'm at home or on another WiFi network. Can't imagine streaming a video podcast on the EDGE network though. It would just be nice if everyone would encode in video that the iPhone supported. I can stream CNN's video podcasts fine, but I can't stream MSNBC/NBC's podcasts at all because they tell me the video format isn't supported.

Video podcasts stream fine over 3G.

OH YEAH. 95MB in one data session. SUCK IT AT&T.

Oh My God... THANK YOU!!

wow, I just tried out SBsettings, the brightness drop menu sealed the deal for me. goodbye bosspref!

Well there are still some toggles that haven't been created for SBsettings yet. And if your mobile substrate crashes and your iPhone reboots in safe mode (as happened to me often when trying to install QuickGold) it'll be nice to have BossPrefs around. I could just get PowerTool instead... Yeah SBsettings is the future. I just updated to 2.2 and find myself swiping the top bar like it was still installed. Wish there was a toggle to 'Clear private data' for Safari

Oh yeah, theoretically, if you install AppBackup and Chronus you should be able to save enough information that would make resetting up after a restore painless. So I'm checking out 2.2 right now...

So this streaming is awesome, of course, but if you stop and come back later, will it resume where you left off?

Oh, cool. Yeah, I have AT&T and have no issues. I just like recording short videos for friends and family. How is that too much to ask?!

Steve Jobs says "yes, it's too much to ask."

On a related note, I love how my SE cell phone, with a paltry (but perfectly serviceable) EDGE data connection and designed before any kind of positioning functionality was even considered a big deal, can get street views via the Java app. Yet my iPod Touch, which can ping any unsecured wireless access point to find out where it is, can't.

Thanks, Apple. I suppose I'm waiting for firmware 3.0 for that little upgrade just because right now an iPhone would be completely redundant for me.

I have a quick question that I think I already know the answer to...

I updated to 2.2 last night on my original iPhone, and I dont see this street view in google at all? Or the schedules for public transportation or walking distance...

Is all that exclusive to the 3G iPhone?? Or did I not set something up correctly after the 2.2FW update??

For street view you have to drop a pin first (the right "page flip" icon > drop pin). Then you'll see an orange stick figure type thing that you click on to enter street view (if there's no street view it'll be kinda grayed out).

To see the public transportation/walking you'll have to get directions like you normally do and they show up in the top as small icons.

This came out of nowhere but is anyone else having problems with the Home button?

This problem was occurring before the most recent update and I was hoping the update would fix the problem. The problem is that the Home button suddenly stops working when I try to exit the iPod mode. I have to reset the phone to get it working again. When it first happened I thought it was one of those weird iPhone bugs that pop up when you haven't reset the phone in a while but it's happened several times now. HALP!

Next time you're at a gaming event you should use Qik and and provide us a live video feed. Closed theatre? No worries, they won't suspect your phone!
say that to the several people i know who had their phones snatched at a far cry 2 event

Sorry if this has already been asked, but is there a good meta-site that shows all the best software available for a jailbroken phone?

2.2. has been jailbroken. Make sure to get the custom update and not just use Apple's and the jailbreak that. The custom one strips the baseband changes and keeps open the possibility of a soft unlock solution.

hmm... yeah, I rely on this thread but it's pretty slow. I'd say check out modmyi's forums. Here's a list of all the apps on Cydia and their self descriptions (as of October). Check the changes section on Cydia to see all the new additions but that gets cluttered by themes for various apps. Cant say I know one perfect site.

Apart from the Neogaf one what are the best webapps? Does BBC still have one?

i hate windows xp 64bit and updating my iphone 2g... damn what a mess..

I came in to ask just this process. How do you do it? I am on Windows 7 -- the PDC build and iTunes is bitching about the 64-bit version. Of course the link on the download page leads to a dead page :(

Edit: To clarify, I have the iphone 3g

it's simple to get a version installed of itunes @64 bit systems...
you've got already itunes installed on it? or not?

If you got itunes already installed und itunes can see your iphone then do this..

update iphone with itunes. then windows will say " i need driveeeer". then you will download this
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/iTunes_for_Windows_x64/1066335784/3
and you need 7zip.

After you downloaded both and installed 7zip, unzip the iTunes64Setup.exe then.
Then you only install the mobile installation. After this you need to reboot :/
After reboot you can finally "recover" your iphone with the new update. After this you can jailbreak it again...

This works on my System Windows XP64 SP2 and Iphone 2g and newest Itunes.

How could you seriously not have noticed that you could do this?

It wasn't obvious to me either. The only button just says "Free" so I clicked that. Granted, I didn't spend more than 20 seconds playing with the app, but I could see someone getting confused.

so has anybody here jailbroken their 3G iphone using quickpwn?
I have, twice. First time it borked my phone when I tried to install the NES emulator. So I had to totally wipe my 3G and start all over. I love it. I haven't updated to 2.2 yet because I'm waiting for it to be jailbroken first. (I fucking love my Picnic theme and don't want to lose it!)

2.2 has been jailbroken already ;-) did it earlier today, worked like a charm with quickpwn.

Battery life seems to have improved dramatically since the update.
This may be true. I went into the office today, but forgot my headphones and just played music over the speaker for four hours and the battery meter only drained about 20%.

My screen seems to be a bit dimmer in low light since the update. Looks fine in full light, and there doesn't appear to be any issues with the screen, just a bit dimmer. I ended up ticking it up a few notches on the slider bar to get it back to the level I was use to.

OK I think I'm going to bite the bullet and Jailbreak...any final warnings or full speed ahead?

That's interesting because I was just coming here to post that my screen is significantly brighter since firmware 2.2 (fine now though after lowering it a bit). Weird.

Did you at any time adjust it up? I think at some point I dropped it a few notches, and now I've put it back up and it seems fine.

I wonder if the update made slight changes across the range of the bar.

Do it!!

I updated to 2.2 and re-jailbroke successfully.

Reasons to Jailbreak:

Intelliscreen ('nuf said)
NES Roms
Stack
SpoofApp (You can change the number that is displayed when you call someone 'Think of all the lives you can ruin')
Cycorder (Video Recorder)
Themes

So Safari is finally stable now? Thank God, because it was crashing 2-3 times a day on me previously. (Especially when viewing GAF. :p)

Kinda sad it's taken them this long to get it running decently...

StreetView on the iPhone over WiFi is unquestionably better than the browser StreetView

QFT, I just upgraded to 2.2 and phone is still unlocked and wow, the streetview is amazing. I was typing in so many addresses, even my old parents home.

Just a heads up to people enjoying this app; I'm not sure if any states have acted to outlaw spoofing, but the Truth in Caller ID Act (HR 251) passed the house last winter, and is likely to be moved out of committee soon after the new Congress convenes. If signed, it would criminalize the act of spoofing caller ID.

More immediately, any material harm you cause somebody fucking around with it could possibly lead to a plausible civil judgment against you.
