I just spent the better part of the day jailbreaking my phone over and over. I used Pwnage Tool, and while the process itself is easy, I kept ending up with a phone with no service. If you use Pwnage Tool, make sure that you do not have it set to activate the phone.

street view is the fucking shit. looked up my old building in nyc and it went right to it. im gonna freak my mom out and show her it next time i see her

Just a heads up to people enjoying this app; I'm not sure if any states have acted to outlaw spoofing, but the Truth in Caller ID Act (HR 251) passed the house last winter, and is likely to be moved out of committee soon after the new Congress convenes. If signed, it would criminalize the act of spoofing caller ID.

More immediately, any material harm you cause somebody fucking around with it could possibly lead to a plausible civil judgment against you.

Wow, what a buzz kill

So my cousin was waiting for an unlock to be available for the 3G before grabbing one. I'm assuming that all newly purchased iphones will come installed with the new baseband and 2.2 firmware. Is she completely screwed?

Most current stock is more than likely pre-installed w/ 2.1. That will obviously change the longer she waits.

I'm still a little in the dark about this. So I can upgrade my current jailbreak to 2.2 on my 3g or no?
I don't see why not.

Worst case is that you'll have to factory restore your 2.1 firmware through iTunes, upgrade to official 2.2 and then jailbreak that.

Now they just need to add copy/paste and add some more bluetooth features and the phone will be perfect (for me)!

Flash! Or ask all the streaming sites to convert to quicktime...

She'll be in limbo for a while because she can't use it - and she wanted to sell her current phone to pay for it too. I'll pass on that advice anyway and tell her to buy it in store as soon as possible if she can't switch carriers.

This isn't a direct link to the site so I guess it's ok right? Too funny not to share and the story's been making the rounds anyway:

In a fit of irony, iPhone pirating app gets pirated
The Hackulous pirating site is dedicated to cracking and distributing iPhone applications without paying any money to their developers. In what can only be described as hilarious irony, a beta version of that application was itself pirated and released (cached) before it could enter a full open-source distribution...

So Safari is finally stable now? Thank God, because it was crashing 2-3 times a day on me previously. (Especially when viewing GAF. :p)

Kinda sad it's taken them this long to get it running decently...

0 Safari crashes since installing 2.2 and it would crash every time I visited a certain site.

Ok, two questions:

The new firmware adds support for wireless podcast downloading which is pretty nifty. However, looking around, it seems like all you can do is browse the small selection of what they have listed, and download or stream individual tracks. Is there a way to instead sync the podcasts I’m already subscribed to via iTunes?

I’m getting used to the lock-screen controls – double-tap the home key to bring up back/pause/forward buttons, etc. But is there a way to pause playback without looking at the screen? Maybe a button combo I’m missing?

Same here. Standard NeoGAF is one of those sites - not the web app. Now I can browse and post on NeoGAF without using the web app and I get 0 crashes.

So what are the odds a 32GB iPhone comes out sometime next year? I need a new cell phone, and while I don't necessarily need a new iPod, my current one is 3 years old, and judging from the average lifespan of all of my friend's iPods it's only a matter of time before my current one breaks down. So I'm figuring, instead of me going out and getting a new cell phone and a new iPod, I'll just get the iPhone since it's both. However, I have roughly 25GB worth of music on my current iPod and I don't want to cut my library in half just to fit it on an iPhone. I'm willing to wait until next year to do this but I don't know if I can hold out until 2010 with my current shit cell phone.

click the mic to pause

Well, I finally found a place hosting the custom IPSW I wanted for my 3G. Since I don't have access to a Mac, I couldn't make one myself.

- Original logo
- Jailbroken
- Enables/Activated
- Baseband update disabled
- Root partition: 531 MB

Here goes nothing..........
Well, I may try it the morning. :)

Is there an app that disables the automatic orientation change? It's irritating while surfing in bed. I know some ebook readers that allow this, but I need it under Safari.

Anyone know why I could be getting crashes on Pwnage when making 2.2 custom? I've done this probably 5 times and never had a problem

go to thebigboss.org and get the version from there. i dl'ed a version that kept crashing from me too, but the one on that site worked w/o a problem

If anyone's been frustrated by the fact you can't gift iPhones anymore, Apple's trying to cash in anyway. Maybe this will be useful to some of you for Christmas gifting purposes:

Does anyone know why when I update to a new firmware it always crashes after it backs up my phone and then shuts my phone off. When I turn it back on iTunes says that I have to restore my phone. Every fucking time there is a new update I go through this and I have to erase everything and put it all back on. I have a 3G phone and it's not a launch one either.

Were you jailbroken and did you update to the latest iTunes before updating the firmware?

Synless said:
No, I've not had any custom firmware. It's all official.

I'd restore your phone, and "set up as new Phone" instead of restoring from a backup. Sounds weird, that shouldn't happen when you upgrade the firmware. It sucks cause you'll have to set everything up again, but only way to be sure.

Can anyone recommend a currency conversion app from the store? Don't need anything super powerful, was just hoping there might be some sort of easy XE.com equivalent in app form.

I'd say it's virtually certain. Hard to say when but I imagine once refresh time comes around (or prior) you will see a 32gig model.

You could use Simplify Media, which will stream your iTunes library to the iPhone. I only have an 8GB, but I don't sweat it since I can always access a song I don't have on me.

On that subject.. Can this simplify media app scrobble to last.fm?

Any black friday deals on good apps? What's the best site for keeping track of appstore price changes?

QE: Classics is available for a a dollar. Tempted to see what the hype is about even though the selection is never going to amount to much.

New update allows you to

How does Simplify Media scrobble tracks from your iPhone? Can you play the tracks through the regular music player or do you have to play songs through Simplify Media to scrobble them to last.fm? I thought Apple wouldn't allow apps to access the music player to do this sort of function?

I noticed that 2.2 jailbreak has been out for a while. Do I have to return my phone to stock 2.1, upgrade to 2.2, then jailbreak or can I just go from 2.1 jailbreak to 2.2 jailbreak automatically with quickpwn?

Has anyone bought Uno from the App Store? I was thinking of getting it because I loved it on the 360 and this has online multiplayer (Internet and locally over wi-fi) and looks really polished, but I haven't plucked up the courage to drop the £4.99 yet.

Hey guys I might get an iPod Touch this Christmas and I'm wondering if I can transfer the songs/videos (not bought at the iTunes store) on my 80GB iPod Video to the Touch?

I know this is the iPhone thread but I didn't want to make a brand new thread just to ask.

You can transfer them as long as they are in your iTunes library on your computer. You can sync that to multiple devices.

Damnit, the songs and videos on my iPod are not on my iTunes because I transfered videos from more than one computer.

Is there ANY way to take the videos and/or songs from the iPod and put them in my iTunes library? Any things I can download to do that?

Senuti on Mac is the best, and Yamipod on Windows can be great when it likes you, but for me it's often buggy and unstable.

you can upgrade to 2.2 with a 2.1 jailbroken phone through iTunes. You then have to do the 2.2 jailbreak again. you cannot do the 2.2 jailbreak on a 2.1 jailbreak phone.

Thanks. I might as well try Yamipod and hope for the best.

Anybody have experience with the app Drunktionary available at Cydia?

It shuts down on me after a few seconds and the app has potential.

OK quick question....

1) my library is on a MyBook external HDD.
2) I just got a new PC and authorized it in iTunes.

How do I get iTunes to recognize my music?
