My glass has scratches you can see when you hold the screen at an angle (they're very minor), but I've been exceptionally brutal to it. Dropped it on pavement 3 times (at least one of those times it fell on its face, so that could be the source of the scratches). Kept in a pocket with coins.

The case (1st generation iPhone) is totally dented and scratched, but it works and the screen is mostly perfect. I think I'll take care of my 3G S a little better.

I would expect the embargo to lift Wednesday night. Nothing to back that up other than it seems a few days before at night often happens, most recently with the Pre.

Anyhow, good news! My iPhone is now in Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong.

I resisted the urge to laugh at "Lap Kok" while at work, but then I was proud of myself and ending up laughing at how I was proud of not laughing.

Lap Kok!

If you don't get a case on a 3G or 3GS then expect tons of scratches on the glossy surface. The original iPhone I can understand since its that matted looking aluminum.

Yep. The only thing I have on my 3G is an invisibleshield covering the back.

So, I originally installed 3.0 GM last week, and I did an UPDATE on my phone. Tried it out, was a bit sluggish sometimes, some apps crashed etc so today I decided to do a restore, and "set up as new iPhone".

Everything seems smoother now, but I noticed a difference.
I've noticed mine seems more sluggish after the 3.0 GM as well, especially genius playlist creation, no crashes yet though. Are game saves etc stored in the app? i.e if I restore as a new iPhone and copy them over from iTunes everything will be as before?

Quick question:

Do you HAVE to register your iPhone via iTunes before you can use it? I'll be picking it up before work and not getting back home to my Mac until after work.

I'd hate to have it just sitting there doing nothing for all those hours...

I believe it has to be plugged into iTunes to activate it.

Yep.
It's at the airport.
I think the chances of us getting our 3GS's tomorrow like UPS says is pretty high. :D

Yes, but the AT&T/Apple stores usually do that for you (even though I hate that they do), unless you're buying it w/ no contract.

I got my iPhone from an AT&T store, and was able to use it before I walked out.

Mine too.

Still no tracking number from AT&T. If I don't get it on Friday before I leave for work I may break down and cry. Or just be pretty damn bummed.

Like others have been saying, have them activate/update/what-not at the store. I remember when the 3G came out connecting through iTunes was a pain in the ass. I had mine activated in the store and a friend of mine had not. He had to wait hours before actually using the phone.

I ordered from Apple and it still says not yet shipped. I'm wondering if the fact that I put in a request to transfer my number from Verizon over when I ordered has anything to do with it. Also, I put gave them the wrong account password when I did it so im sure that isnt helping things.

I wouldn't expect any more units to ship until tonight. Isn't it like 1am in China? Most likely, you'll see it ship tonight and all will be right with the world.

I somehow really doubt anyone is getting theirs early. Its going to be held at the shipper and its also going to have to go through imports.

Does anyone know when the OS update happens tomorrow we are going to get a slew of app updates right away? I'm just hoping that I don't have to do full downloads of some of my apps, specifically I am looking in the direction of Myst.

I'd imagine plenty of them will. They've had the beta and dev. preview for a long enough time.

So how long before we start seeing 3GS specific apps show up?

If this starts to happen I think it's bad for just about everyone, as it'd be splitting up the market.

You need to learn to believe.

We believe.

Stop killing our beliefs!

they can activate it at the store, if that's where you are getting it, and have time to do so

:lol y'all are acting like it's Christmas day. I would recommend Deliveries, an app to monitor packages, but I guess you won't be getting any other package this exciting until the Tablet Air comes out.

Somewhere someone will get theirs before the 19th, and of course that someone isn't me :(

Question:

So, I can go into an AT&T store on Thursday to purchase a 3GS. But then, do I have to sign contracts or activate it in store? Or can I just walk up, pay $300 for the phone, and leave within a few minutes?

Basically, is the contract done online? It would be great if I could just buy it at the store and not deal with signing any contract there. Then I'll just hold onto it until I can unlock it on T-Mobile like I've been doing with my OG iPhone.

Uh, if you don't sign a contract then you're not gonna pay $300.

Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. Existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G should check with AT&T or use www.apple.com/iphone/buy to find out if they are eligible for early upgrade pricing: $299 (8GB), $399 (16GB), or $499 (32GB) with a new two-year contract. For those who are not eligible for an early upgrade or who wish to buy iPhone as a gift, the prices are $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB).

If you don't want to sign the contracts in the store, you can do them ahead of time by pre-ordering at AT&T or Apple's websites. If you're trying to get an iPhone for $299 without a contract, you aren't going to.

I bought my OG iPhone without a contract. All they did was a credit check in store and told me to go home to activate it. That's when I never bothered to and just unlocked it and inserted my T-Mobile SIM.

All I want to know is if I'm going to be asked to sign contracts in store. If I don't have to, then I'll be fine.

The OG iPhone wasn't subsidized.

It's the kind that isn't glossy, so it doesnt get finger prints and stupid smudges on it. So awesome. I took it off and put on one of those glossy ones, I hate it :(. I had to order another.

I have the rebel, but this is the same, looks like more grip. Obviously no case is better because any case makes the phone less sexy. But if you are a dropper, get a case

The original iPhone was unsubsidized. You can buy an unsubsidized 32gb 3GS iPhone for $700 without signing a contract in store.

You can't do that anymore. That scheme only prevailed with the original iphone.

EDIT: See answer above.

Sigh. Maybe I'll just hold onto my OG then. Backgrounder crashing apps because of memory problems would be solved so easily with the 3GS.

Is that one have a rubber feel? Those rubber ones are a pain in the ass to take out of your pocket, their site seems to have a nice hard case one, anyone have that one all?

A little part of me inside is really hoping they release 3.0 early to avoid the rush...tonight...

the kids at the cool table have been rocking 3.0 since last week.

But, to be fair, it's the upcoming 3.0 apps that have got me all hot and bothered. i want some pushed badge notifications for RSS and twitter apps.

plus any app that uses the google map API inside it could be pretty cool.

Question

I need to be able to write notes etc on my laptop and then get them on to the iPhone.
how do I transfer notes from NOTEPAD on my computer to the iPhone?

So I just called an Apple store with the following question: I have two ATT accounts under my name, but the one I use isn't ready for upgrade. The other account is ready for a upgrade but it's not my number. If I purchase the iPhone 3GS for the other account, then swap sim cards (both accounts are iPhones) will that work?

The dude at the Apple Store said no. Is that right?! I want to upgrade my wifes account (she has an iphone 2G) and swap sim cards (give her my 3G). It won't work?

Of course you can. Both will have the necessary data/talk plan so it'll be okay.

Is there a good iPhone compatible (that won't come up with that annoying airplane mode message) FM/Charger/Holder that isn't $100?
