I like how you responded to me explaining why I wouldn't be getting it by saying 16 GB is okay for you.
And no, not everyone OBVIOUSLY will hate AT&T. It doesn't suck for everyone. But it's widely looked at as the worst of the big three. Verizon is probably the best in most people's opinions, but I use and enjoy T-Mobile.
I can respect that 16 GB may not be enough for you, but to say that it "sucks" is kind of off base. Yes, it's far less than you can get in an HDD based media player like the iPod Classic, but this is a completely different device. My examples were simply a way to show you what can be done with the space that is available. Which is to say, you can get quite a bit of content on the phone. Regardless, 32MB version will probably be out this Summer when, if the rumors are correct, a 3G version will drop as well.
As for the quality of AT&T vs. the other networks, all I can say is that I've now used Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, which technically isn't one of the "Big Three". Sprint is still larger. But of the three that I've used, T-Mobile was by far the worst provider. In fact, it wasn't even close. And this comes from someone who travels regularly, and has lived in two very different regions of the country over the past few years. Verizon was probably the best, but as I said earlier, I've noticed no real difference when it comes to AT&T.
But again, if you want an iPhone, it can be fairly easily unlocked and used on T-Mobile. I have a friend who has done it and is quite happy with it. I know that he doesn't have Visual Voicemail, and I think YouTube doesn't work, but there are hacks to get it up and going, but otherwise, it works fine.
