From what I've seen on mine, that normally seems like a DRM issue. If just restarting the iPod doesn't work, try installing a new app (just find a random free one,) and then restart the iPod. That should fix the DRM problem.
thanks, I guess it was a DRM issue, it now fixed :D

Okay. Since you've left me no choice but to write this or feel shamed, I'll write a browser app to parse your XML file this weekend.

Haha, apparently you feel a little more pressured than I do!

I took a second look at my Java code, and I can tell I don't have the intellectual fortitude to work on it until I'm a couple days removed from my current project. Coding all day for work has me averse to coding for funsies.

One thing I noticed in working out my own scraper for GAF was even though it seemed very simple conceptually Discussions-->Threads-->Posts, there are a lot of mildly challenging data structure challenges in handling those from a stateless connection and no data store. I ended up:

- Holding most of GAF--as it was browsed by users of my webapp--in memor
- assigned cascading caches to each layer (i.e. 2 days for the discussions page, 5 minutes for the thread listings, 1 minute for each individual thread), so that I couldn't rape the GAF server too badly.
- Manual pruning of the caches to prevent them from getting too massive.
- Used redundant data structures so I could easily do reverse-lookups (i.e. given a post ID, find the thread as well as the more typical opposite)

Otherwise, all very doable. I think I spent a total of ~12 hours building the scraper and optimizing it (though I know there's a memory leak in there, because after a few days the web server would run out of heapspace)

I will, again, remind anyone and everyone involved that I will provide SLICK assets for the interface (artwork, icons, etc). I will gladly help make this happen.

In order to deal with spoilers there would have to be something in the message like a "messageSpoiler" element or similar so that it could be deal with differently from the actual message. While I could certainly parse out the spoiler from the message - I'm incredibly lazy right now :D

Wow, the AIM app blows. It won't even pull up my buddy list. And apparently messages on Edge and 3G count as text messages? Yikes.

LIES, COMPLETE AND TOTAL LIES! Who the hell keeps spreading this totally inaccurate trash?

That said I haven't had any issues with the AIM app at all since I've installed it.

Nah, I was planning to do it anyways. With the server piece out of the picture I can actually get this done in a reasonable amount of time without having to worry about trying to get Phython from making me want to kill myself.

I was just scrolling through the reviews and someone mentioned it. Sounds like AT&T support is confused and sometimes telling people information based on other AIM services. I know that was true with a previous phone I had on AT&T. Either way, it's borked for me. :\

I'm planning on doing that anyway. It'll be in there for now so that feature can be added later down the road.

Spoiler tags would be damn tricky on a webapp that was built 100% in dash code, I think. Mine just exposed all of them :P
I'm probably going to turn my screenshots into a webapp also, using the same XML as a data source. I'm not going to use DashCode, though. It'll just be a IUI formatted version of the forum pages. No ajax. I figure even if the thing has to do a page redraw every time you do an action, it'd still be an improvement over viewing the forums default layout on the tiny iPhone screen. Of course, a real iPhone app means that UI will be far more responsive than viewing a complex web page in Safari.

If this NeoGAF app is really going ahead, I'd be more than happy to pitch ten bucks towards the licence.

Rolled back to 1.1.4. The 2.0 just hated my router, I used iliberty this time to jailbreak and it loaded cydia instead of installer... much nicer interface and less prone to freezes.

I'm sure as hell not charging anything for it. If you're going to pay somebody, pay the guys that have to host it until we can get GAF proper to put it on their servers.

The info screen for the AIM app on the app store needs a huge disclaimer added then. People are confused as hell about this. I had to explain to several people myself that the app uses data only.

*****AIM DOES NOT USE TEXT MESSAGES***** -Something like that.

The patch for Tiny Violin makes it a much better app now. All the sounds it plays now are great for eliciting mock sympathy, plus they added a bow to play as well.

I think he's talking about getting it on the app store (for free?) instead of being just a browser app. The license is like 100 bucks, right?

oooh, I want that case when I get my phone. Do you know if they have them in AT&T stores?

No idea. I'm in Canada and I I'm going to try the Apple Store here. If not, I'll just order it off the website.

Anyone picked up this case? Looks like it might be the case of choice for me but you need to buy a screen protector separately.

I bought this case (and an anti-glare screen protector) at the Apple Store on day 2.

I returned the case yesterday.

There was nothing "wrong" with the case, I just felt like it really took away from the beauty of the phone and made it bulkier, so I'm going to go caseless.

How was the silent/ringer switch? I hear that there is some difficulty using it.

Is there a forum of Open Moko fanboys? Probably a goldmine.

This video of the interface is so hilarious; the first thing I thought of was previews of Creative and Rio devices challenging the iPod:

Please click. So hilarious.

There was a time when the Open Moko wasn't a complete joke and I actually ordered one of the dev units. Then the project started going downhill as they kept trying to find (i.e. create) their market niche and I gave up on them and sat my dev unit in a box in the closet UNDERNEATH my Nintendo Gamecube.

:lol Wow, those openmoko vids are great. By the time I got to the second one I could just imagine somebody using it during a corporate meeting as a "how to know your product has failed" example. The guy was basically explaining every problem I had with the original series Palm Pilot. :lol

That case sucks. I just returned it. It gets scratched up super easy and it's poorly designed in the openings. The ringer toggle is a pain in the ass to switch once its on silent. Both my wife and I had it and we both returned it.

I ended up with the Agent 18 Clear Case:

Great case, very minimal, and it works in the dock without removing anything.

People buy the most ridiculous shit to shitty up their iPhones and iPods.

Just get this: http://store.apple.com/us/product/T...phone/iphone_accessories/cases&mco=MTI3MzkwMQ, and stop making your products into pocket bricks just because you might drop it once.

My OG iPhone has been left uncased since last July and besides a few scuff marks on the back it's fine. This piece of beauty wasn't meant to be hidden and bricked up by cases; just take care of it and you'll be fine!

I LURVE this video. I just sat there shaking my head at this ridiculous UI. It's almost completely unusable. It's shocking that that phone is apparently 400 bucks (according to Daring Fireball)

So my laptop just died and I went out and bought a new one. Does anyone have any tips on the best way to transition my iPhone to the new laptop? Right now it's telling me it's tied to another computer.

Ohhh, this NeoGAF app is sounding a lot more exciting now that m0dus will give art assets :)

instead of a neogaf app, why not just do what modmyifone.com did and make a iphone interface for the forums? both forums are using vbulletin so its def possible

I ended up getting the Griffin Nu Form case for my iPhone:

More in-depth review here.

For those who say to go case-less, that would work if I wasn't such a clutz. I dropped my old phone at least once a week. I also throw my phone and keys together in the same place in my purse.

The pros of the case:
- slim
- not too tacky
- isn't sticky like the silicone cases
- access to all the buttons as well as easy dock access

Cons:
- would rather it be a solid color
- comes with a janky screen protector that is smear-city. I'm thinking about replacing that with protective film
- over priced for what it is ($24 -- but you can get it for $20 + free shipping with a coupon code)

i can't find a decent case that comes with a removable clip. i want to clip the phone to my shorts for workouts but the rest of the time just have the phone in a case.

and what am i doing wrong with neogaf on my phone, it keeps logging me out every time i close safari. are there no cookies for the iphone?

That...that photo makes me want an iphone more. >_< Ahhh the bumpers don't seem to make it look that ugly, just more rough and tumble. You're right about the screen protector though.

Now if only the mythological beast known as the 16GB iPhone would appear in western Canada...

pwnage2.0 is officially out. Sorry I'd link to it but of course the iPhone lacks c/p lol. Will activate and jailbreak 3g iPhones. Oh and mac only for the moment
