16g iphones don't exist in western canada?

i'm in sask and they i have a white one :P

I'm fairly sure the only store in Vancouver that has had a 16GB iphone since launch has sold it before they opened the freshly arrived boxes.

are there any BIG reasons to jailbreak my touch? i don't know anything about the apps that have been homebrewed at all.

Biggest app I'd be missing by not jailbreaking myself is MobileScrobbler for lastfm scrobbling.

I haven't heard of an official app for that.

instead of a neogaf app, why not just do what modmyifone.com did and make a iphone interface for the forums? both forums are using vbulletin so its def possible

I totally agree. An iPhone-friendly skin for vBulletin is the best solution to the problem.

Do you guys know if I can get a good return on my 1.1.1 software unlocked 8gig iPhone? I bought it for $450 a few months ago, does anyone know if there's still demand for a software unlocked iPhone?

Probably can get 300 to 360 for it.

ah ok... you can always order it over the phone and get it in like 3 days :P

they just charge your account and you pay it on your next bill

if you don't feel like waiting lol

Just used the new dev team pwnage tool to upgrade my jailbroken/unlocked iPhone to 2.0 and everything went swimmingly...

except...

Mail.app was broken. If anyone else does this and needs to fix their mail, do this:
Fixed by installing OpenSSH from Cydia, logged in as root / alpine and did the following to fix it:
chmod 777 /var/mobile/Library/Mail
chown mobile /var/mobile/Library/Cookies/
chown mobile/var/mobile/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist

I had heard they stopped doing that for a bit, apparently they backlogged too many phone orders and a bunch of customers are waiting for the end of the month? :lol But yeah, will probably do that in a few weeks.

I ordered mine online (fido) and got it the next morning.

So if 3G iphone jailbreak is possible, does it make it possible to just swap SIM card from my existing phone into it, and continue using 3G under the plan that I already have? Then again, what's the point if to get a 3G you need to buy it from a provider, with a plan.

Ok guys, I just purchase a 6month old Iphone from a co-worker so now I have a few questions. How can I reset it to erase all his info? 2nd- How and what do I use to unlock it so I can use it for my travels abroad? 3rd. Can I upgrade to the 2.0 software and still be able to unlock it? 4nd What are some good apps and games available for an older Iphone?

1. Restore iPhone through iTunes
2. iPwnage tool from iPhone Dev Team.
3. iPwnage tool will do this.
4. 2.0 doesn't run many of the old jailbreak apps yet. Check out AppStore through iTunes.

Keep in mind that using iPwnage will restore the iPhone, therefore erase all data.

So basically all I need is to use Ipwnage and it resets the Iphone to its original state? Is it worth updating to 2.0? I Cant find the link at apple. Can I use skype on it?

You should steal some of his contacts and things while you're at it. For example, if he assigns photos to his contacts, then you can look for hot female friends he has.

That's what he gets for not erasing his data beforehand.

No to Skype, but yes to both the other questions. The real way to update to firmware 2.0 is to do a restore in iTunes (it will ask you if you want to perform restore and update to latest firmware). Once you've done that, boot up iPwnage, follow the instructions until it tells you to quit it and restore the newly created custom firmware through iTunes. You should be set after that.

If all you want to do is delete everything off the phone, just restore it in itunes. It'll restore it to its factory settings. If you're on ATT, you don't have to do anything else. If you're on any other GSM carrier, you'll have unlock it.

If you want to use custom apps, you'll have to jailbreak it by using the pwnage tool on mac, or winpwn, ziphone, etc on windows.

2.0 is nice, but the only problem is installer hasn't been ported yet, and cydia doesn't have a lot of apps on it yet. There probably is a skype app on installer or cydia, but I'm not sure.

Sometimes I don't see either an E or 3G, but rather a box with a dot in the middle. What does that mean?
From I can tell, that means you have no EDGE or 3G access at the moment, not sure though.

Was there an IRC application on jailbroken 1.x iPhones? How about a yahoo messenger application? I'm hoping these are in the pipeline for retail consumption, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had developed it already.

there was an irc and a couple multi client messenger apps on 1.4 at least. Agile Messenger was the best IMO. I'm hoping it gets ported to 2.0 soon

What the hell? Why has the iPhone availability checker on Apple down? I can't even see it anymore. WTF!!

I believe it's only active after 9 pm, and you can't check it during the day (as it very likely wouldn't be accurate anymore)...right?

NeoGAF XML parser update:

I've completed the thread view XML parser and added pagination to both. For example: The following link will output the Off-Topic forum's (id 3) third page of topics. I've added nodes to explain which page you're viewing and how many are available. Leaving the page value off defaults to page 1.

http://www.secondapps.com/neogaf/forum.php?f=3&page=3

The following link will show this page's full XML data (id 160872, page 159).

I agree that an iPhone skin for vvBulletin would be the easiest and fastest solution and also make hosting a non-issue. However, there are still advantages to having a true native iPhone app from a UI/feature standpoint... especially if we ever want good thread creation and reply posting. Imagine being able to integrate your iPhone's photo gallery and camera, etc.

As for building a simple Safari webapp off of this XML data, I think that is something I'm still going to do simply because I think it would be something fun to attempt. :D

Does that pwntool thingy, replace any images on the phone? I plan on selling mine unlocked to a friend, but they're anal about some weird ass image showing up instead of an apple.

Yes, it replaces the apple bootup logo with a pineapple, and the recovery graphic with a cartoon of steve jobs speaking russian (from memory).

If you use the Advanced mode of the tool you can put these back to default.

No MobileScrobbler for 2.0 I reckon?

Not upgrading till there is.

I don't think we'll see one till apps can use background processes, plus I believe apps don't have access to your music library. Maybe wrong though, is one thing that was nice about jailbroken phones.

Correct on both counts, and neither of those things are ever going to happen. It's a shame iScrobbler can't just do all the work when you plug your iPhone in, like it does with an iPod :(

Actually, running the latest Last.fm app on OS X does exactly this. Not sure if it works differently on other platforms.
