What?? I do not understand this at all.

Is this supposed to be hard to do or something? I can hammer out 40-50 WPM e-mails on this thing, and "Gabi" is no harder than any other string. I typed it in without any odd thing happening at all.

Seriously, it's like this isn't a gaming forum. Am I the only one with advanced finger coordination and dexterity?

Edit: Ahhh, if you're a lame press-and-holder it doesn't let you pick it. Meh.
No, I actually own a stylus for this thing, in the event I am a unco-ordinated mess and can't finesse a finger to do what I want it to, and even the soft point of the stylus, tapping very quickly, directly onto the I, skips the I and hits the O.
I know that the keyboard's corrective measures are input-specific, and it won't spell-check certain things like email addresses, so maybe that's why there's a difference in the issue. Because it's not being fat-fingered or a slow typist.
But regardless, it's a pretty insignificant thing.

I wasn't able to get it to happen until i thought about it, but if I hit just-center or left-of-center on the I it would go I. Right-side of the I and it would go O.

Do any of you know of some good internet sites with streaming video that work on the iPhone?

The only two I know of are BBC iPlayer (only in the UK) and Gametrailers.

Oh, really? I had the volume on low. My dirty mind must have filled in the gap with the word fuck.

A quick question for some of you... how hard is it to learn the coding languages required to make an iPhone app? I've got this really good idea, but not a lot of skill with coding... and before you ask, no, I'm not planning on making a tip calculator or a flashlight. :lol

Picked up my 8GB 3G phone today. I fussed the salesperson out over how much I hated Apple hardware and software, and he took it like a good sport. Now I have to go about setting it up and installing the dreaded iTunes. I've made it this long without that software, why do I need it now? :( PEACE.

There's something wrong with this post but I just can't quite place my finger on it...

why did you buy an iphone then?

The classic buy it to troll it reason of course. But honestly, I can see the complaint. Itunes is great on a mac, but it feels totally out of place on Windows.

Best smartphone around? What, are you required to be a fan of the company before buying their product? I hate everything Apple, but gosh darnit, they made a great phone. iTunes is an awful piece of software. As glitchy as it is, Mediamonkey is better at file handling. You don't need to worship at the altar of Apple to see a good phone, but you don't have to be a hater to see the flaws either. To answer your question, I got it b/c it's the best compromise for my necessities. I'm amazed a guy wearing an Apple shirt took my criticism better than some of you. PEACE.

You're making a unit converter?

The point being made is that you're awfully petty over a computer company. Who really goes to buy a product just to talk shit about the company? Why do you have such strong feelings on this?

I'm sure this sounds like sour grapes but I'm kinda glad all these apps are not coming out on other phones, like my e71, which doesn't have half as many cool apps. I just does emails, text and calls fantastically and that's it. I don't have to trawl the web drooling over apps :D

Any of you guys actually use your phones for calls? :lol

Btw, the above is meant with the best intentions. Long live iPhone.

Petty doesn't even begin to describe this post. It's probably worth noting that there's a huge, sprawling gap between being a "fan" and hating a company...as in, a normal person.

Umm... I hate to state the obvious... but how about YouTube?

No, I'm making something that GAF might use... not a game, though. (not yet anyways)
But I am not sure if I have the talent for coding, and was kind of hoping someone with Xcode experience could end my panic attack.

It's got fw 2.0.1 on it. Should I go with 2.0.2 through iTunes, or is there actually something to jailbreaking these phones. I wouldn't mind video recording apps and emus. If it matters, I'm also the owner of a PSP with cfw, and I've put cfw on my SE phone as well. Is it an issue at all? PEACE.

Gametrailers doesn't work for me.

I'm not gonna go into it further, but as a hardware engineer Apples close hardware has been a far greater negative than even Winblows. If I sound petty, it's b/c I'm paying for a product that won't give me the same freedom of some of my other devices. I'm not a fan of proprietary anything really, but Apple's just made a living of it. If the phone wasn't this good, I wouldn't buy it and I'd never grace this thread. You guys don't see me in any other Apple-related thread for this very reason. My bitching is more akin to an old man set in his ways. Maybe this cool little phone will finally thaw my cold heart. Or whatever. ;) PEACE.

I still don't understand this argument at all. What is proprietary in a MacBook that is not in any Dell machine? It has user-replaceable RAM and HDD; it uses standard Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, and Firewire; it uses standard DVI for monitors; all accessories, monitors, external drives, mice, keyboards, and any other USB or Firewire device all works the same as it does on any other computer.

I think people see that you only can technically install OSX on a Mac and just lose their shit and assume the whole Apple world is closed and unfriendly. Seriously, what is this freedom you want that you say Apple won't give you compared to your other devices?

Closed box and such. It doesn't matter much in the end. I'm set in my ways on these things anyway. But you can see how I might not like being forced to use iTunes to do basic media handling when I've grown quite accustomed to doing it whichever way I choose. PEACE.

There's still nothing closed about it compared to anything else. It's a poor relic of an argument from the PowerPC days. You can put every major OS and every piece of software for those operating systems on a Mac. You can replace every single component of any of the machines if you know what you're doing.

Even the iMac has every single component replaceable, but the same people that say they love to tinker and dick around with their machines suddenly get scared when it comes time to actually doing some serious customization that doesn't involve easily inserting PCI cards like game cartridges.

The whole iTunes argument doesn't fly for me either. iTunes blows ass on Windows, but it's not as if having to use a certain program to do a certain thing is such an anomaly in computing. Regardless, ml_ipod devs are working on iPhone 2.0 for Winamp, and those foobar kids always find a way.

you sound pretty douchey. Who goes into a store to bash their products and then walks out with one?

I agree though the hate for iTunes most definitely spawns from its Windows users. It runs beautifully on my iMac.

DOH.

Finally decided to cancel Verizon service and get an iPhone after getting my FAN discount (25% off of service WOW!).

The damn thing has a big piece of dust or fiber under the screen. I even got duts on the screen protector when I tried to get the speck out only to find that was impossible :lol i am going to take it back and try and get a new one, then restore my backup. Other than that I have had it since yesterday afternoon and really enjoy it.

You don't think they will try and charge me a restocking fee do you? =/

If you have no coding skill, I really can't see you being able to pick the SDK up and get anything released anytime soon. You really should either try and make it a web app or try to find a friend who's done some Objective-C if you really want to pursue your idea.

The tools and language are pretty tough to learn, even to someone who has been writing in other languages for a while.

I've been spending my weekends for the past few months putting together what could be a pretty neat game. It was a struggle early on, but we took a lot of time learning the right way to do things and I'm hoping that will pay off.

do elaborate
I work for a local government organization that has specially negotiated rate discounts with all the carriers. FAN is foundation account number, which refers to that group account.
Sorry, it won't help you ;)

EDIT::
Also, does anybody know if I sync an active sync e-mail is there anyway for ATT to know that? I want to be able to look at my work email, but I won't pay Att 15 dollars for that privelege. I synced the exchange e-mail and it worked.

Anyone have experience with this?

Is there a way to delete folders in the bookmarks area?

I don't recall them being there originally, but I synched the safari bookmarks to try that taulate thing and now I can't get rid of the folders (tried unsynching the bookmarks from safari).

Click the Edit-button at the bottom left of the Bookmarks window. You'll see red round buttons appearing at the left of each folder and bookmark, click that and you'll see Delete-button appearing at the right hand of the window.

Is there any way to use MP3's as ringtones or alarm tones? The alarm on the iphone doesnt ramp up so it shocks me awake every morning :(

1) Right click on a song in your iTunes library, click Convert to AAC.
2) Right click again and Show in Finder (Mac) or Show in Explorer (Windows)
3) Then just rename the file MySong.m4a to MySong.m4r and double click, should import it into iTunes as a ringtone.

my coworkers and i tested this out at launch. they're on the $30/mo plan, I'm on the $45.
After a month of identical service I switched my plan, over the phone, to the $30/mo. My exchange connection never stopped working.

hi guys, I am travelling to USA next week and I am not sure if I can charge my Iphone over there.. due to a driffrent voltage than we got here in EU...

I am bringing my sony viao laptop as well but that one I am guessing I wont have a problem charging as the laptops have built in current converters right?

Yes, the the AC adapter converts alternating current to DC (direct current) for use in the PC, and all power output from the AC adapter is the same.

OK so I just charge the Iphone from the Laptop then, but just to clarify, will the Iphone wall charger I got when I got the iPhone work with US Voltage ? " I know they have a diffrent wall output there but I got a multiadaptor for all diffrent wall sockets :)

Hmm, looking at the wall plug, it says 100-240V, 50/60hz, so it sounds like you would be fine with the multiadaptor? I burned out a DS universal charger before converting the other way, but in theory it's supposed to be fine. (I suppose if there's a problem the US apple USB-wall plug is cheap though, providing you are near an Apple Store.)
