So apparently you can buy the iPhone on Apple.com now, and set up an AT&T account?

Anyone want to look into that and see how it works? I might do that way.
It was pretty much the same way as the original iPhone, except in reverse. With the original, you plugged your new phone in and did all this stuff through iTunes. It works fine. With the 3G, they got too paranoid about unlocking and stupid shit so they made the whole country wait in lines to jump through fire hoops.

Oh Shiz...

Just got 5-icon Dock:

this is perhaps the only non-shit theme I have seen in this thread. Unfortunately, it looks like it would get pretty ugly once 3rd party apps, without the highy customized icons, get added to the home screen.

the home screen that was made to look like a Mac desktop is retarded.

I do like his as well, it's clean, and minimal.

You'd be surprised at the number of 3rd party apps, both unofficial and official that are supported with many themes.
Plus they, get updated from time to time to add new ones.

Or you can add them yourself.

Was it really that enforced? For my iPhone 3G, I just got it through Rogers Customer Service and plugged it into my computer. iTunes unbricked it with the click of a button. It seems foolproof unless you yank out the phone while it's doing the unbricking.

This one's not bad imo. The background isn't good for it, but it looks unified and isn't offensive to the eyes. Although a couple of icons should have been changed. YouTube for example really shouldn't be left default. I liked one posted earlier.

Facebook 2.0 update is out. More like the computer version. I approve.
Already a major bug, when you ignore friend requests, if you navigate off the requests tab and go back at any time, it will still say you have the same requests and can actually put the little red number badge into a negative number if you ignore them again. Facebook recognizes that you've ignored the request on the computer end, but the iPhone app refuses to. On the other hand, shaking the phone to update the page you're on is kind of clever for a non-gimmick app to use.

And for those still interested, BeeJive is still awesome, and finding all sorts of cool little tricks.

I thought an update must have been coming. I've had trouble seeing peoples' status updates on the app for the last week or so, but the web app has worked fine.

I'll have a look, but it could do with a big update. The redesign has added a lot of new functionality that I'd like to be able to use on the phone without having to use the normal site layout in Safari, which doesn't work too well.

You're saying this theme looks shitty? :0

:(

I don't get this. I want my Gmail to check every 30 minutes, so I turned off push, turned on fetch to check every 30 minutes, then set Gmail to fetch. It does not seem like it is working, do I need to be on a WiFi connection for it to check or does it do it over 3G as well?

:([/QUOTE]I don't see how anyone could like pastel colors highlighting the bottom of buttons.

Hey guys, what could be filling up "Other" data on your iphone?

I have 205MB of "Other" and I'd like to get rid of it if possible.

Is this space related to app data?
I should be everything in the file system that isn't being counted in any of the other categories. Apps has it's own category in iTunes 8, so it's not included as "Other". Sometimes though, the "Apps" counting still messes up and gets bunched with "Other" in iTunes 8.

You can't remove anything counted as "Other" except by doing a wipe (after which the OS will fill much of it up again anyway), unless you jailbreak. If you choose to jailbreak, you're free to do whatever you see fit with the entire file system.

Do we know if BeejiveIM will support push notifications when Apple adds them? If it does I might pay the asking price because I'd like a decent IM app that'll have that in the future. I've been using IM+ recently but that's really bare bones.

Also does anyone with experience of the Blackberry one know if buying Beejive gives you access to future updates? I don't want to have to drop another £9.49 for version 2.0 whenever that shows up.

Here's my theme:

If I could remember where I got that background, I should probably move the girl a little more to the left. I guess she's got that Aaliyah cover my left eye thing going, though.

Anyway, everything is laid out in categories to clean up the screen. I also use QuickGold (BRILLIANT) to get to things. It's like Spotlight for the iPhone and if you have JB your phone, you must get it. Just hit the home button once while on the home screen and a search pops up. Type in, say, Photos and it'll pop up with you being able to click it to launch. Brilliant.

I bought it. Does the trick.

Does it work well with 3G enabled? Some of the reviews said it wasn't strong enough to charge while using 3G services. I don't normally use 3G but the time I do I'd like to know that my charger is adequate.

Cool, thanks!

I also noticed there is a stacks app, complete with the little springy bounce that fans over your screen to access the most used apps.
I like the search better I think.

Facebook 2.0 pretty much eliminates much of my reason for even visiting the website. It's so much more streamlined. If they could just add support for events, we'd be set.

Throw groups in and I'd be with you on that.

Unless 2.0 supports groups and I'm being an idiot...

We really need a separate iPhone theme thread. These janky ass themes are way too jarring first thing thing in the morning.

It appears that both events and groups are there.. the menubar slides! and reveals nearly every option of the website.

bought beejive

beejive >>>> palringo

so awesome for multiple conversations going on at the same time

It's excellent, especially the emails it pushes when you get a new message -- that include the message text so you can see if it's worth launching the program to respond. Great stuff.

Just so they're easier to find.

You can use Yahoo for the push emails right?

And does it stay connected forever after closing Beejive, or only for a little while?

Yes, I made a Yahoo account just for beejive.. so far it works as good as yahoo does. I'm sure with MobileMe you would get the message a bit quicker, but with Yahoo I always get them within 10-30 seconds after receiving a message.

It stays connected a maximum of 24 hours.. so if you open Beejive at least once a day then you'll be connected forever.

Fuck this Facebook update.. It's completely frozen for me. Shows the opening screen but nothing responds... A reboot doesn't help. Not exactly the app I expected to completely fail...

I suppose I'll try a reinstall of the app, but otherwise I've got no iPhone Facebook until they fix the bugs... :(

That's an awesome theme. Where did you get it?

Thanks for the beejive impressions, everyone. I went ahead and got it.

It's very polished, fast and rock-solid. It does the main things I wanted which were keep me logged in even when the app is closed and allow for new messages to be sent via push e-mail. Its settings show up in the main iPhone settings screen which is cool and it has a lot of configurable options.

My only complaints are with the UI. I'm not a fan of the grey popup bubble you use to type new messages. It's difficult to read and looks goofy. Also, there are no typing notifications. These are minor issues, however.

That's the only part of theme I like (dock only), minus the pastel colors.

Facebook 2.0 is now finally comparable to the website experience! It's actually better than the web-app now. Took them long enough but I'm very happy :)

Shake to update is kinda gimmicky, but whatever.

I used to hate the popup bubble because it blocks the chat behind it, but tapping it once actually makes it disappear until you start typing again.
And the BeeJive devs have stated that maintaining a network connection that allowed for typing notifications was actually a major battery-killer, so they left it out until they could find a way to add it that was soft to the battery.

I wonder why there's no ability to add friends though...
There is. Go to the friends menu and search for the name. Assuming it doesn't match any of your existing friends it'll list matches who aren't on your friends list, and you can tap their name and add them from there.

I'm having a few bugs with Facebook otherwise, like it seems to think that it's 1 October - that's tomorrow, if you're not keeping count - and the status updates on my news feed are given as 7-8 hours ago or thereabouts (if I visit Facebook on my computer the most recent was 34 minutes ago). Also in the scroll bar with all the update filters I have 'Texas HoldEm Poker' and 'Are YOU Interested', neither of which I have installed, but that's also the case if I visit the main site. Anyone know why those are there and how I can get rid of them?

I'm used to oddities with 2.0 software on the iPhone, though. Here's to Facebook 2.1 ;)

Anyone tried Kroll yet? I see it was released to the App store. It's the cool looking site scroller that they showed off at the demo a few months back.
There's impressions in the app thread.

I guess it's not bad, but not great from what I've read.

Sorry for bumping my old question, but it is driving me nuts. Anyone else have their Gmail being checked automatically every 15 min, 30 min, etc?

Here are my prefs:
Push = Off
Fetch = Every 30 minutes

Gmail Pref:
Select Schedule = Fetch

When I load the e-mail app, right before it does the automatic refresh, I can see the last time it was updated at the bottom. 30 minutes have definitely passed without an update. I can't figure out for the life of me how to get this to work. Arg!
