Anybody have experience with the app Drunktionary available at Cydia?

It shuts down on me after a few seconds and the app has potential.

Yeah, my girl put me on to it. The App is great. Never crashed but I don't have the most recent FW.

Anyone have any experience with the InCase iPhone Power Slider?

http://goincase.com/products/detail/power-slider-ec20003/7

It's an nice case with a built int lithium Ion battery for extended battery life. Doesn't use the iPhone's battery until the one on the case is all used up. My only concern is the bulkiness of the thing, which is hard to gauge in pics.

That's a really thick case, considering my Incipio Feather case is nearly flush with the camera eye. Neat idea, I guess, but I prefer to have an external battery should I ever need it, not a battery I have to carry all the time. I don't even use my battery all that much to require one.

Yeah... Considering how small the batter that's included in the iphone is, I'm puzzled as to why the one(s) in the case are so thick.

Great idea though. To not have to worry about the iPhone's battery life is something that would make the phone substantially better IMO.

Am I the only one who doesn't care if my phone has a shitty camera? If I'm going somewhere where I'm going to want to take decent photos I'll, you know, take a camera. Even a semi-decent P&S camera is going to take better pictures than the vast, vast majority of phones.
You never know when you see something you want to take a picture of.

We're not all KungFuJedi that carry all our DSLR and p&s cameras around with us at all times.

The point is that the camera is pretty crap compared to other phones' cameras in its class.
Owning other cameras isn't an argument against that point.

MacRumors is reporting Developers can now give away full, promotional copies of Apps:

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=610376

Limited to only 50 per version, so probably only good for reviews/demonstrations, but interesting nonetheless.
Now get demo support and we're banging on all cylinders, Apple...

Lite app version apps don't count.

I got the phone today. I love it. Is there any easy(ish) way to sync stuff up to my Google Calendar, or do I need to just manually move things over?

Since the iPhone is the "everything in one" device, I spose people naturally assume the camera would be as fresh as the rest of the device.
When have "everything in one" devices ever been expected to be the best-of-the-best for every feature? Compromises are always made for a diverse featureset.

I know, I wouldn't say otherwise.

The iPhone is attracting a ton of folks that are used to a Motorola RAZR or an LG VX series phone that are either free or like 50 bucks when their upgrade comes around.

"This camera isn't much better than what I had on my cheap phone..." is what they think, I'm sure. For some folks the camera is the most frequently used feature, while for others it's a non-feature.

Not saying that I think the iPhone should have an amazing camera, but it doesn't surprise me in the least that people are upset that that feature wasn't a bigger deal.

Is there any way to change the background of the desktop? I know there would be a lot of stuff in the way, but it would be nice to have something other than a solid black background all the time.

So far, all the images I've downloaded will only appear on the unlock screen.

Jailbreak + Winterboard.

I don't believe there is a way that doesn't involve jailbreaking sadly.

I don't think the poor camera is a huge mark against the phone. It's more a case of "that's a shame", along with inevitable bitter tears when they release a better iPhone with an awesome camera and I really want it.

Heh, pretty much.

The good outweighs the slight negatives on this phone. I love it.

The new in-ear headphones with remote and mic is now available on the Apple Store. Supposedly it works with the iPhone sans volume controls. Anyone planning to get them? I'm using Sennheiser CX300 but I sure do miss that remote/mic.

My girlfriend bought it. It does make a slight difference; essentially it just makes sure you're not moving the phone too much when it takes the picture, which reduces blur and stuff. It's not actually much better at night time, which is why she bought it in the first place. That's what you get for not reading properly.

Though I still dislike iTunes, Genius is absolutely awesome for the iPhone. Picking a song then getting a cool playlist to take with me is so cool.

You are part of the minority of people who buy phones with cameras. Most people, statistically, who use camera phones are trying to capture moments that happen when they don't have a camera available. Most of these people are in the income bracket $25k - $50k and like the idea of having a single device that they can use for most of their purposes while they are on the go. Most people don't have their P&S and CERTAINLY don't have a DSLR with them most of the time, but over 60% of Americans owning camera phones have those phones with them over 90% of the time. In fact the reason for the prior 'megapixel' explosion for cell phones was specifically because people wanted to take real pictures from their cell phones and not carry P&S cameras.

That's real demographic research from CEA - use it how you like :)

I wouldn't dispute your statistics at all, but it's safe to say that MOST phones sold today come equipped with a camera of some varying degree of quality, and that MOST people carry their cell phone with them where ever they go. That doesn't necessarily say much about the usage of said camera phones.

Also, I never said in my above statement that I carried my point and shoot or DSLR with every where. Just that I have them for when I want to take photos, and at the times when I don't have them with me, the iPhone camera has been more than adequate for the job. I realize that I'm likely in a different demographic than most people here, being older that much of GAF. But when I'm out and about with friends or family, it's very rare that I, or anyone that I'm, just take out our phone and start shooting photos.

My favorite Yankees blogger just got an iPhone, but he needs some help.

UPDATE, 12:14 p.m.: Hey, does anybody out there use the Word Press blog application on their iPhone? If so, drop me an e-mail. I could use some tips. It would be great to be able to set up a post earlier in the day (like, say, the lineup) and then add to it and publish it from the clubhouse once the lineup is set. Or if it changes. Is that possible?

Any ideas?

UPDATE-- Is this any good? http://iphone.wordpress.org/

Do they even make camera phones with an optical zoom? Or a decent flash?

At this point I don't see how anyone can expect their phone to replace their camera.

Anybody else try out the new Amazon Mobile App?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000291661

Mostly it's just a dedicated front end for the iPhone, not much advantage over their already great Safari Mobile interface. The big thing is the "Amazon Remembers" feature. You can take a picture of something and send it to Amazon where their team will try and find that item on Amazon. I tried it with my desk stapler and they had an answer for me within an hour (though I imagine this time will increase as more people use the app).

My guess is Amazon bought that app they said couldn't be put up on the App Store.

My old LGX8300 had an awesome flash. It's a shame that the iPhone isn't equipped with one. BTW, I'm not an iPhone owner, but I admire from afar. I hope to have either an iPhone or Android-based phone in the near future, depending on what comes first to Verizon.

Most people would just be happy if they look nice. Optical zoom, decent flash -- all buzzwords that mean nothing to most people.

You can bet that will be Android first. AT&T has the iPhone exclusively for another couple of years, thanks to Verizon passing on it.

Also, here's a nice little app, that is free until Friday, that makes it easy to connect to AT&T Hotspots, which are free for iPhone users.

Edit: Oops! Here is where you can read about it:

Sony's Cybershot phones are incredible. The 3.2MP phone was amazing. Not as good as their standalone digicams, but destroyed any other phone cam. Then again, that's how I feel about all SE phones. Their cams are second to none. The only way I can see anyone doing better is if Canon put their optics in a phone. Not sure how the 5MP phone fair, though. PEACE.

Optical zoom and flash are what make pictures look nice. A dim, pixelated digital zoom'ed shot from 25 rows back at a concert is gonna look like shit even if you paid for the 5 megapixels.

Ummmm, where? I think you forgot the url. AT&T's Hotspots recognize my phone as an iPhone, but prompt me to enter my phone number -- which obviously doesn't work since I'm unlocked and on T-Mobile. Can I just enter the number of anyone with an iPhone?

Is it?

The camera is not the best, but its far from the worst that some people make it out to be.

Oops! Sorry! I think I got interrupted earlier and forgot to drop in the URL. You can read about it here:

I think it checks to make sure you have an active AT&T account with the phone number though, so it may not be useful to you.

Just search for it in the app store on your iphone. That's how I got it.

EDIT: I dont think so. It sends a text message to the phone with a URL link to activate the hotspot. With the app, it skips the texting part. You need to have AT&T.

Can you search inside books and read excerpts?

I'm getting the iPhone next week. I have to unlock it because I'm on T-mobile's network. Are there any issues I should know about using it with T-Mobile? What are the best apps to use from the app store?

Also, is it worth jailbreaking? I hear there aren't any risks involved but are there enough applications to warrant all the trouble of jailbreaking it?

Is the Last.fm background scrobbler not working for anyone?
It doesn't do that. It only scrobbles what you listen to in it's radio thing.

Simpilfy Media does scrobble your tracks, but only what you have on the computer.(see description on how it works)

To scrobble your music on your phone, you need to jailbreak it.

Looks like I'm getting an iPhone for Christmas. I'd like to get a case and screen protector with one. What do you guys recommend? I looked around and it seems like there are a million different kinds that are all basically the same thing.

I have the Griffen Clarifi case and I love it. It actually does take better photos but only within a few inches of whatever you're taking a picture of.
