I haven't tried it, but I thought it allowed you drop any files on the iPhone and gave you access to it's file structure. Figured you could drop an MP3 file into the music folder on the iPhone and it would work.

Nah, it can't add to your library. Since it's an appstore app, Apple makes it sandboxed with its own folder. But you'll be able to play it and copy it to your computer when you get home.

You can install ssh since it's jailbroken and connect through and put the file wherever you like, even your itunes library i guess although I haven't tried that before. It might be like the photos 'library' and not show up properly.

Air sharing should work. Or just use dTunes and download the song. Or if you don't have Air Sharing, just pay the $.99 for the song from iTunes.

This is a song that's being offered online only and not off iTunes, sadly. That 99 cents would be long gone by now if this was the case.

I'm now forced to do a little wizardry to have my ears satisfied.

Thanks to all the suggestions, I'll read into Air Sharing, dTunes and the SSH install.

Not sure about dTunes, but SSH installing into your iTunes library wouldn't work. There's some sort of database in there somewhere for the iPod app to access the library, and Apple doesn't want anyone to be messing with it.

Perhaps there's an app which will do the necessary changes for you, but you certainly cannot do it manually via SSH.

I don't even know if he has 2.0 or newer. Is it really safe to update via iTunes?

To quote the IPDT:

Locked iPhone 3G - Preserve Baseband

This applies if you have a locked iPhone 3G and you wish to update to 2.2 but preserve the iPhone’s current baseband software. Preserving the baseband will give you the maximum chance for any upcoming software unlock. To upgrade your phone to 2.2 and preserve the state of the baseband you need to create a custom .ipsw with PwnageTool. This custom .ipsw will not contain the baseband update but of course will still allow all the cool new stuff from 2.2.

There are plenty of tutorials about this process on the web, but PwnageTool contains intuitive graphics and easy to follow prompts that should have you up and running in no time at all. Please note: PwnageTool is only available for Mac OS X.

Locked iPhone 3G

If you are using your iPhone with one carrier and have no interest in the possibility of an iPhone 3G unlock in the near future then just restore or upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes and use QuickPwn to Jailbreak and add Cydia and Installer.

iPhone 2G (1st Generation)

Update or Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then run QuickPwn to do the magic, ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything.

iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)

Update to 2.2 with iTunes and run QuickPwn.

iPod Touch 2G (New iPod Touch)

Sorry, no support at this time.

Got a new iPhone 3G back from Apple, and it's carried over my Unlock. Woot woot.

Did anyone else know that pressing (not holding) the home button and power button together takes a screencap?

Just did it by accident and was pretty surprised.

ive been having issues of my phone ringing, then when sliding to unlock/answer the screen goes black but the phone still vibrates and rings but will not answer

its happened a few times since going to 2.1, im jailbroken/unlocked on a 8GB iPhone

this happen with anyone else?

It was added in 2.0. 2.2 just expanded the feature to work on the lock screen as well.

Very disorienting to do that and to view the picture on the phone. It's like the 'ole change the desktop to a screenshot trick.

Still looking for a way to skip and pause tracks while driving without having to look at the screen. I use 3.5 mm to aux input on my car :(

Maybe I will try one of those sure extender things with a mic since nobody makes what I am looking for :(

first off, buy the belkin car adapter. it has an aux-out from the dock connector which provides better sound. there might be other companies, i use the belkin.

then maybe try plugging in the headphones at the same time? i wonder what happens. see if you can use the mic button with sound coming through the dock.

This has happened on my sister's 2G once. That same phone on two ocassions did't turn the screen back on when you press any buttons until you force a reboot.

Try getting one of those cheap headphone splitters maybe? That way you can have both plugged in at the same time, and could use the iPhone headphone clicker thing to skip/pause tracks.

Not sure if it'd work but they're so cheap (73 cents on monoprice) that it's certainly worth a try...

I doubt those would work. The iPhone headphone jack have a special area of the connector that sends the click commands that these splitters likely won't have.

So I bought an iPhone recently and love it but I hate holding the thing up to my ear to talk. Its just too big, so I've been using the ear buds to listen to my music and also chat when I get an call.

thing is, I dont like how it has a long ass cord that gets tangled in my pocket. Is there anything out there that offers the same functionality but maybe a way to easily wrap up and extend the cord or even wireless bluetooth but for both ear so I can still listen to music?

The full-finger versions have small "caps" on the index and thumb you can fold back.
Thanks. I'll go for those if dot gloves are still sold out next week (are they even fulfilling orders).

Let's get a list going on what apps work with VoIPover3G. I only know of Orb and Fring. Any others?

Time's No 1 Gadget of 2008
whblll.jpg

Of all the gadgets on this list, this is the one that James Bond is most likely to carry. That is, it's the coolest gadget of the year. It's a pocket projector — meaning you plug the 4.1-inch gizmo into your iPod or iPhone, and it projects your movies on a wall, or even on the seat back in front of you on the plane. It displays images crisply on a surface as close as 8 inches away and as distant as 8 feet away, even in daylight. The super-bright Pico weighs 4 ounces and is smaller than many cell phones. Two cautionary notes: The sound output is dinky, so you'll want to use it with headphones, which makes it less fun for the whole family, or an external speaker, which makes it bulky. (Or, see the FoxL Bluetooth Speaker, at No. 5 on this list). And the rechargeable battery lasts 1.5 hours. Luckily, it ships with two. Price: $399

I was going to suggest the Shure MPA myself. I don't think I've heard of anything similar to it, but it does work great for me.

Does anyone know how to delete podcasts I downloaded through the iTunes app? I synced my phone just now and expected them transfer so I could delete through my PC but.. nope.

edit: nvm I figured it out. you have to swipe your finger on the date and delete them individually from the phone...

I ordered my iPhone last night. Shipped out today. A 2G 8Gb. Got it for $389 and it was very lightly used with no scratches on the back or front. Can't wait to get it.

I've got the T-mobile T-zones internet... how do I go by using that with my iPhone? I've seen guides but they're old... from last year. Couldn't find a current one.

Hmmm... I know what you mean. I have a 3G iPhone with T-mobile, and I've heard about this so-called t-zones thing, but cannot, for the life of me, find out exactly what it is or how I get it. Can I get it on the pay as you go? Or is it contract only? What is it?

Anybody link me to the cydia hack for T-mobile internet? The phone was jailbroken and unlocked using cydia.

It's the only way to get it to work as far as I know.

Eh, I know I paid a bit much but this thing is spotless. I wanted one as new as possible at 400 or less.

What's a better (free) alternative then?
I just use the Maps app.

I hit Home, so it centers around where I am.
And search for whatever I need:

Bank - (brings up local banks)
Burger - (brings up fast food joints)
Grocery - (brings up local grocery stores)

etc etc

Plus, it's nice to see how far away they are relative to me.

I downloaded dTunes, it's so good. I hate iTune's stupid 10mb podcast limit, now I can download MP3s from Safari and then play them back, without having to worry about having a good enough signal to not have buffer pauses.

Long story short (basically involves a dead laptop), I need to copy all the music off my ipod, onto my desktop PC. Except Itunes is going to erase my entire library if I try.

Are there any FREE programs to rip my iphone sogns to my hard drive to I can add them to my Itunes library on my PC which has a much larger library.
