Oh man, I really wish the new black one looks like that. I'm loving my black matt iPod and I don't really dig the shiny 3g black.mrkgoo said:I thought this must've been posted here ( I think they're a week old), but then again, it's just a mock-up, so maybe nobody cares. I did think these looked kinda nice, though:

I don't normally go for colours, as they may be more interesting at first, but you get bored.

My OG iPhone has just succumbed to the Dead Strip bug (more info)
I can't get past the lock screen, because the 4,5,6 number keys don't respond. I'm going to try to restore, but I'm not hopeful.
I'll run to the Genius bar tomorrow and cross my fingers that I can just get a loaner. I can't wait for the fact that I have OS 3.0 installed to completely screw me over.
If anyone wants a new release of MobileGAF, ship me your iPhones!![]()

..Right?
Sometime around WWDC.
I think they'll want to release 3.0 early to quality test the push servers before releasing this feature to a whole bunch of potentially-new customers, stagger the push server traffic so they can prepare for the launch and not have the services not work, like when they tried to launch MobileMe in tandem with the 3G launch. Seems like the more sensible and safer bet.Phoenix said:Can't imagine they'll launch 3.0 at WWDC. Notifications just went into testing, storekit remains untestable, and gamekit works only between certain models of phone. I will guess that they'll have a RC maybe at WWDC and then go on a bug hunt until about July 17th.
Nature of the beast, man. Smartphones with data plans cost major bucks in Canada. I pay $73 a month for 150 daytime, unlimited evenings and weekends, 6GB data plan and the "Every Call" value pack for call display. If you're a long-time Rogers customer, their customer retentions department can cut you a deal if you act indignant enough about the pricing on the phone.Trax416 said:Anyone have an Iphone from Rogers in Canada? If so how do you like their plans, what plan do you have and how much do you pay?
I am thinking about getting one, but everything seems very costly.

No, what I'm suggesting is that Apple would rather inconvenience established customers with a less-than-spectacular push performance than piss off their new customers and turn them off their product. Its existing customer base would use the push notifications with the full 3.0 software release, allow them to gauge demand for its use and apply server changes to accommodate demand with their new customers. Their current controlled tests with developers is not going to be an appropriate gauge of usage.Phoenix said:What you're suggesting would just be a continuation of the beta - not a public release. As soon as they release 3.0 notifications HAVE to work since the applications will be registering for push requests as soon as they start.

At the moment, she can't send picture messages. Is there a software update available for this model that will allow her to send picture messages? If so how is it done?
No. Coming in updated OS in a couple months for 3G or newer phones.j-wood said:Quick question everyone...a friend of mine recently purchased an iPhone...I'm not sure which version it is.

I think this might be the trade-off. Improved battery performance is important to Apple, and OLED tech supposedly has a lower failure rate at the expense of longevity, meaning less replacement phones being issued. So the cost balance might appear to even out for them with what they gain from using it. Who knows, though.Tobor said:Maybe. MS has a lot farther to catch up, and might be selling these new Zunes at a loss, which Apple doesn't need to do.
I hope so, since it would improve battery life.

Tobor said:Phoeniz, what are your thoughts on OLED? I need to hear some truth. Yay or Nay in this upgrade?
Phoenix said:I have no idea. I know tons about the API and roadmap for the OS beyond Beta5, but zippo about the hardware itself. OLED is certainly possible - its cheap enough for them to throw it in, but I'm not entirely convinced that they HAVE to do it for this generation of hardware. OLED is really just going to bump up their costs and provide Apple no tangible benefit in the market. The number of people who let OLED specifically determine which phone they are going to get has to be pretty small at this point and limited primarily to techies. Most consumers don't even know what an OLED is.
If I were Apple, I probably wouldn't do it this go round. The iSuppli numbers show that they are already spending 10-17 bucks more per unit hardware than their Android cousins and still outshipping them by a significant margin. The only want I would see them doing it is if they REALLY need to balance the faster CPU with better battery and OLED is the only way they could do it.
I had the same issue occur a few weeks ago, and the dude at the Genius Bar gave me a replacement. I was just a few weeks out of warranty, but he mentioned something about touch screen failures being covered for the life of the device (or something like that), so hopefully you won't run into any problems.Juice said:ARGH!

I was thinking the same thing but the Gruber speculation mentioned the possibility of Apple selling, at a discount, the left over stock of iPhone 3Gs on their website after the new model comes out. How's the market for used macbooks faced with the old white macbooks available for $999 (not to mention the option of getting a refurbished, or using the student/developer deals)?Ashhong said:theres no concrete info but a new iphone is coming. your friends friend is just repeating rumors found online. if she is able to strike a new contract with ATT somehow, it probably would be best to sell the iphone now if she MUST have the new one.
although, i sold my first gen iphone 6 months into the 3G lifespan for a good amount, enough to not have to pay extra for 3G. so the value might hold
There is a BIG chance that a new iPhone will be introduced in the next weeks (say 1,000,000,000 to 1).dustytruly said:ok quick question... my friend is being a retard and said she read online that there's a new iphone coming out july 17th.... i'm saying hell NO.... the most they're coming out with is gonna be a firmware update to 3.0
then she heard from some other fucktard that it's coming out... and this dude is trying to make her sell her iphone on ebay so she can use the money to buy this new iphone that hasn't been confirmed by anyone...
he also read it online... he was all like "oh it's gonna have a rubber back and OLED... blah blah"...
so i wanna confirm that there's no info about it coming for sure yet or at all... right?... because i don't want her selling her current iphone and then having the rebuy it

What planet have you been living on that doesn't have a 99.9% chance that a new iPhone is coming out?
