This version of iPhone OS 3.0 should only be deployed on devices dedicated for iPhone OS 3.0 GM Seed software development. By installing iPhone OS 3.0 GM Seed software on your Authorized Test Devices, these Devices are permanently locked into testing mode and cannot be restored to an earlier release of iPhone OS. Bear this in mind before installing the software.

Notice the comma. Meaning the rest of the sentence is describing the "Test Devices" not the firmware.
So this firmware is designed for those phones. But its basically the firmware and nothing else.
Next owner after owner keeps installing it and reporting success , like say ME.
Or we could just spread more false info.

remember, if true you will have a hard time upgrading to the regular 3.0 release in 8 days
thewhiterabbit said:That is a miss understanding.
The gm software is designed to be released to devs with test iphones. Phones in locked test mode. But its still the full firmware and if installed on a regular iphone will work.
The is no test mode.
I updated my phone like any other update. Works great
rampur said:if anyone cares, Gizmodo did a hands on video of the 3gs but they took it down 5 minutes later.
In the video they compared how the 3g, 3gs and the palm pre loaded gizmodo.com over the cell phone data connection.
I cant remember the exact times but it went something like this
3GS: 37 seconds
Pre: 56 seconds
3G: 58 seconds
edit: they also forgot to take down this gallery

thewhiterabbit said:Which I am not. Infact I own a zune and no itune songs. I own 3 pcs running windows. I can not wait to get windows 7. I own no other apple products. I just love the iphone. Next you called me out like some idiot when explaining the firmware is good to go and you fail to even comprehend a simple comma.
Sorry I am some elite for reading properly.
Must suck being wrong 2 straight posts :lol
Marty Chinn said:So using this firmware on a normal iPhone, you could still downgrade if you wanted to then?
Shawnwhann said:I don't care whether you own Apple products or not, but the tone and tenor of your posts reflect the classic behavior of an Apple elitist.
But perhaps I was wrong, I should have just called you an asshole instead of prefacing it with an "Apple" in the beginning. For that, please accept my most humble and sincerest apologies...
thewhiterabbit said:No. You can not downgrade out of the 3.0 GM. Only upgrade. So if you go from 2.1 to 3.0 you can not go back to 2.1. Same if your in the beat from what I understand.
But why would you :lol
Marty Chinn said:Just in case I wanted to unlock or jailbreak my phone if for some reason they don't find a way to do it in 3.0.
Slurpy said:What the hell? Does anyone actually have the 'show battery percentage' in the usage menu? I don't. Did this not make the 3.0 cut??
robertsan21 said:soooo the NEW iphone looks exactly the same as the 3g one that we are using now??
wtf!!
questions:
when will I be able to buy the new Iphone here in sweden?
the 3G one had to be bought with a Contract..how will apple launch this NEW model?
will there be a THINNER model of Iphone coming out or is this 3gs the model we will get this summer?
when will 3.0 be launched?
robertsan21 said:thanks everyone
I just hope the NEW model wont be sold only with a contract like the 3G was, that would suck ass from a straw
suffah said:You can bet on the contract.
robertsan21 said:but for us who got a contract when buying the 3g last year?
elektrikluv said:Then you have to wait for your contract to finish before buying a new iPhone.
robertsan21 said:haha nooo that cant be correct...that would fuck up sales for the new 3GS bigtime wouldnt it?
Costanza said:last year they let us upgrade at regular 2-year-contract price (though that was only because the first phone wasn't subsidized).
still, i've had AT&T for a loooong time and service is fine here, so i would be ok with EXTENDING my contract 2 more years (3 total) if it meant getting the 3GS for $199 next week -_-
oh well, I might just open a new line and waste $10/month
they want to charge me $599 to upgrade now. FUCK THAT.rampur said:dont do this!! $10*24months= $240
first go here and see the price you have to pay. https://buyiphone.apple.com/WebObjects/IPACustomer.woa/
Worst case scenario just pay the early termination fee to get out of contract and pay 199 or the just pay the increased price

You can call up and cancel it (I'm pretty sure at least)Sean said:I thought you couldn't do this on the iPhone? They force you to have a data plan ($30) with each phone or something.
robertsan21 said:haha nooo that cant be correct...that would fuck up sales for the new 3GS bigtime wouldnt it?
Yeah dude, it's because we already have an iPhone.robertsan21 said:wow apple are fucking us over bigtime, they obviously dont give a shit about the people that OWN a iPhone already and had to get a contract to get the phone!
B-Ri said:wait, whaat. So i have to buy it at FULL price, even though i have a 2g and the contract is up?! So $199 is only to absolutely new customers?!
elektrikluv said:Yeah or customers who had the first iPhone whose contracts should be up by now. Straight from the website as I posted above ^.
