What time do you guys think the 3GSes will arrive? I'd wake up early to eliminate the possibility of sleeping through the bell but I'd be pissed if I wake up early on my day off and everyone is buying their 3GSes from stores and I don't get mine from UPS until 4:30 PM when they've been ready since the 17th :/

What time does UPS normally drop deliveries to your house? I don't think they're going to change because it's coming from Apple. :D

On that note, my order status still says We have received your order request, and we expect to begin processing it shortly..

lol I'm not sure! I usually do business with FedEx, but I think when I have used UPS it's about 2. So I guess I'll expect that.

Is it me or did you use to be able to order your Favorites (telephone numbers)? Or maybe I'm just missing something...

EDIT: Also, it seems like the App Store loads slower now...

Dammit I think Fetch for Gmail is broken again. I have mine checking every 30 minutes and it's almost 1AM and it hasn't been checked since I manually opened the e-mail app at 10:15PM.

Edit: Nevermind, FML. E-mails were getting filtered out of the inbox to another folder.

Hit the "Edit" button then hold your finger on an entry and drag to desired location.

See, that's what I remembered....but there is no Edit button anymore?

You are on the Favorites screen for your telephone numbers right? The Edit button should be in the upper left corner.

yup

EDIT:
Well, a reset appears to have brought it back. I was worried for a second that my update was screwed up.

From what I understand, after you first sign in to an AT&T hotspot, every time you go near one after that the phone automatically switches to it, even from 3G.

Searched on the site for AT&T hotspots...they only seem to be at McDonald's, Starbucks, and Barnes and Noble...three places I never hang out at, yay!

May I ask what browser/keyboard/internationalization you used when you posted this?

(I ask because MobileGAF completely threw up all over your post and I'm stumped on why it failed to parse it.)

Oh, I also like the change in the app store. The screenshots are now a little slideshow you can flip through.

i like that to. it kinda does that for mms. If one person has sent you a few pictures, it kinda saves them in a album in the log

SiriusXM app is now available on the app store. App is free but of course you need a subscription. It does come with a 7 day free trial:

http://itunes.com/apps/SIRIUSXMPremiumOnline

I'm having trouble finding how much it cost for just a subscription for the iPhone. I found a price for adding it to your existing account for $3, but I'm wondering if it's cheap enough I may just drop my normal XM account and use this. Any idea what it costs for standalone?

Update to 3.0 went smoothly. Last time my phone froze and destroyed my computer along with it. Thankfully this wasn't the case this time Apple.

Wondering -> Is it safe to update to 3.0 now (if I want to unlock my phone on Sunday... if)?

I am currently running a Jailbroken 2.2 on a 3G iPhone, I am thinking of perhaps unlocking it this Sunday since I am going to Asia over the weekend... but I might just decide to not JB my phone anymore and just use standard firmware because of the extra hassle involved (don't like having to format my phone after each upgrade...).

So I'm having problems with this. I had the 3.0 GM installed on my iPod Touch 2G and wanted to switch over to the public 3.0 release. I managed to download the 3.0 firmware through iTunes but it got stuck halfway when trying to restore from backup. I decided to cancel out of that and did the shift + restore thing and now it's stuck halfway on restore from backup once again. Am I doing something wrong here? I'd prefer not to set up a new iPod since that would be a pain to put all my settings and info back in there, so hopefully there is another way.

I've waited a good hour since it's been stuck and it hasn't changed. Should I just wait more?

3.0 just bricked my 3G.

It got stuck halfway during the update, then turned itself off. I waited about 30 minutes, but nothing happened. When I turned it back on, it only shows the connect to iTunes screen. When I plug it in to the computer, iTunes detects the iPhone is in recovery mode, and prompts a full restore... which then fails 25-30 minutes into it every time. I've rebooted, and have tried everything.

It says unknown restore error 13.

Just as an update, I tried to restore from backup again (it kept getting stuck halfway) on my iPod Touch 2G and let it run while I went to bed. Woke up to find that everything synced onto it fine. However, I'm missing all my email accounts and a few other settings are gone. Kind of annoying, but at least it works now.

Try going into DFU mode and manually restoring from an older firmware namely 2.2.1

I updated yesterday afternoon as soon as 3.0 was released and I didn't have any problems. The download was pretty slow, almost 50 minutes, but that's to be expected. I like the landscape keyboard for SMS, SMS forwarding, and that's about it. I wasn't too happy to learn a few weeks ago that MMS wouldn't be available until late summer. The update I really wanted is how it handles GMail. It'd be nice if the iPhone would handle conversations or email threads like the desktop version. I've also noticed my battery life doesn't seem to be as good. Maybe it's because I was looking around the phone for new features but the battery seemed to drop pretty quickly last night. It was a free update and didn't crash my phone so I can't complain too much. It's nearly impossible for these updates to live up to the hype they receive.

Anyone know if it is true that BeejiveIM submitted a new version with push notifications to Apple for review a few days ago? Won't it negate MMS then?

Edit: Looks like it may be true: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7VftJrga1k

...and it looks like people mentioned this a few days ago, doh

Yeah apparently its taking Apple an abnormally long time to approve apps. Lots of developers offered new updates prior to 3.0 so there is a lot of work to do for Apple. Another possibility might have something to do with the push service in that it might be quite a hit on the servers if everyone started using push for IM apps. So Apple might be making sure the servers won't blow up as soon as the first 3.0 IM apps are released. :p
But I really don't know for sure why its taking so long. :(

Never knew the "cellphone" fanboy war is more ugly than the "console
fanboy war. I was reading some of the comments on engadget.com and it is quite shocking how nasty, petty and hateful for apple and the iPhone while proping up their own favorite cellphone. Some even call out the writer of the 3GS review and call him an apple shill.

People detest Apple for some reason, probably the whole coolness thing, which is a fair complaint maybe. If Apple didn't make the best phone, I wouldn't have it. If OSX wasn't the best OS, I wouldn't use it. The whole coolness thing does taint it a little, for me at least. I hate to think people think I have Apple stuff because it's cool and not just because it's the best.

Same here.
Fucking ATT.

WOOHOO my 3G S shipped from Apple, via FedEx.

I haven't gotten anything from FedEx before at my new apartment, so I guess I'll be sitting around all day tomorrow. Good thing I had the day off already!

3.0 kinda sorta bricked my 2g. No worries, Im getting the 3Gs tomorrow. It wont play music even tho its on the device and won't allow me to resync.

Updated this morning when I woke... 3g iPhone optus Australia and it went through without a hitch... The phone seems to work the same for the most parts and this wasn't the generational os change I kind of got in my head. Not going to mms much because I don't wanna rack up a massive bill anyhow.

Do think the voice memo think is long in coming.

Seems to be better at holding onto a 3g signal though although I could possibly be imgining it.

Love Spotlight search. Now where are my OS 3.0-native ESPN and Meebo apps that were showcased when OS 3.0 was first revealed? Those looked hawt and I want them NOOOOW.

ESPN is out! I almost picked it up, but decided not to.

On a side note, the Sirius XM app is live today in the app store, and I DLed it (because I have an account) to see how it is, and after I logged in it said that the app does not work with basic subscriber services and that I need to upgrade to premium which is another $3 a month in my account, and NO Stern! So NO Thank You! Delete.

Why do you guys like Spotlight so much? I can't think of a single reason to ever use it, except maybe to search my Calendar but I pretty much know when things are happening to go to that month and look.

Agreed. There aren't that many places to put things on the iPhone.

Spotlight search is pretty fast on my iPhone, so if I had an urge to play a particular song, it seems faster to just hit the home button, start typing the name of the song and launch it from there. Same for contacts, etc.

I do wish Spotlight could search bookmarks in Safari. That would be nice.

If you happen to use your phone for work, it certainly doesn't hurt when you've got 100 customers and 100s of emails over a couple different accounts.

It's not so much 'where' things are as a quick reference over several applications at once

Engadget comments are the worst place on the Internet. The absolute worst.

"Man you guys are such shills for Apple, stop posting about Apple!" but they keep coming back to the site just to pollute the comments section. Add to this that Engadget actually provides an Apple-free version of their site and RSS feed for those people, and they don't utilize it.

I could see using it for work email. Personal email is much easier to keep updated. I never have more than a few things at a time in GMail.

Just finally had a look at the itunes OS 3.0 list of improvements.. and well, yeah....

I don't know why I was even hyped. Its alright but not mindblowing. I guess having MMS/voice recorder are really the 2 highlights. :S

It's all about app improvements. They actually have access to things they never had before: your iPod library, Bluetooth, your mic/speakers, the proximity sensor, Google Maps, etc.

Did everyone else know that Apple upped the app pages from 9 to 11? Is this 3.0 or just 3GS? I just read about this on Gizmodo's review matrix summary thing.

I agree that Engadget comments are approaching Youtube levels, but I hate the "Apple free" website alternative/justification. Long ago, I was not impressed with the iPhone too much, it's finally won me over with the 3GS. Gizmodo was posting story after story after story about Apple, when there was actually other things going on in the tech world that they were missing (the "Shutup" incident), all for more Apple posts which at one point stopped being news posts and started being polls and opinions on a news post, etc.

Using the Apple free Gizmodo would have meant no stories for a day and a half. If you don't like the iPhone, you can't win. Sure, some websites go over the top, and yeah, it has influenced the industry more than haters want to admit (thus it deserves high coverage) but if you hate it, it's fucking hard to steer clear.

There is another topic in OT asking about Bluetooth headphones. Does that mean that with 3.0, I can listen to music with the PS3 BT Headset AND be able to use it for making calls?
