So I was using the phone speaking to my gf and playing a game when I noticed that I was at 10% battery life, so I plugged it in to the AC adapter and continued to play/talk. Five minutes later, my phone turns off due to no battery power left. Is it possible to lose battery life even when you're plugged in if you use it to talk and do other things? Using a 3GS, by the way.

never once had that happen to me, but i only had the 2g and 3g. i guess its theoretically possible if you are doing so many things that it uses more battery than its getting?

Just wanted to note that the accessibility functions in the 3Gs are amazing. Finally going to jump on the iphone bandwagon now that I can read the screen. :lol

Dammit, something is definitely wrong. I let the phone charge for a few minutes and it got to 20% -- called my gf and the battery refused to move up, it stayed at 20% for ten minutes. This is really odd.

try calibrating it. if its the same procedure as a macbook battery, let it charge all the way, let it sit for a few hours (so basically overnight would be best). then use it until it completely dies, and leave it, then fully charge to 100%

edit: also try just rebooting the phone. ive had my battery percentage get stuck before

I reboot the phone already, so I'm going to give the battery calibrating thing a shot, thanks.

I had an issue kind of similar to yours. I was tethering to my computer via USB, and the phone battery was actually going down...at first I chalked it up to the fact that maybe tethering used up lots of power but something didn't seem right.

Overnight the battery was almost used up with the phone doing nothing, from a full charge...I restarted it after that and things have been fine since. On a 3G, btw.

Wondering if anyone else here has ever encountered this error message within iTunes - Whenever I go to purchase something, either through the desktop, or through the iPhone, I am given an error message saying that the provided zip code in my account does not match the zip code my bank has on file for me.

The problem is, the bank DOES have the correct zip code, I've verified by calling and also by looking at my most recent statement. The other odd thing is that I've been using both the desktop iTunes, and iPhone iTunes/AppStore to purchase items over the last couple of weeks without issue - and now it suddenly thinks the zip code is wrong.

I've looked online, but there doesn't seem to be much information - basic stuff, and I've tried it all. Was curious if anyone here has had the same issue, and if they were able to fix it? If not, my next step would be to contact Apple in some fashion - but I'm not sure where to go. Would an email suffice, or should I try tracking down a phone number to call?

Anyone using iPhone OS 3.1? Does it fix up the various bugs like weak wifi signal, shittier battery?
I hope it does, along with the exceptionally dumb "bug" of sending text messages as MMS when selecting multiple recipients.

Picked up Ellis (on sale for $0.99) based on the rave reviews calling it the iPhone's best indie game (it's also included on the "our favorite games" birthday list). Have to wait until lunch break to play it :(

The Kindle app or Stanza

Also, have any of you guys ever heard of AT&T paying another carrier's cancellation fees? I have a friend who wants to switch to AT&T with his wife, but they'd have to pay to cancel Sprint. Someone mentioned that in the past AT&T would pay your cancellation fees with the other carrier as an incentive to get you to switch to them, but I doubt that's true.

I tried both and prefer Stanza, as it has a few extra features, and better availability on free, public domain books. However, Amazon BOUGHT Stanza several weeks ago, so I imagine they'll kill it eventually.

Does anyone know if there are any windshield mounts/FM transmitters for the iphone, that will allow us to use it as a GPS or to simply listen music, like this one?

This is the Satechi Windshield Mount Fm Transmitter, but it seems it was discontinued for some reason. I'd really want to get my hands on something similar.

Yay sold my 3G today for $300. Definitely took the sting out of paying full price for the 3GS :D

Why would someone pay so much for a used phone? Is it because it is jailbroke and unlocked?

Sorry if I sound noob, despite the fact of being a huge gadget nerd, I have pretty much ignored the iphone due to my disinterest in Apple and tied down to T-Mobile. I may now being given an iphone and att contract through work so I have had to play catch up.

I have a windshield mount but it's just a mount. I gotta stereo/ipod kit installed in my car. heard too many bad things about fm transmitters and bad audio

I know what you mean, I have a transmitter right now, it has its ups and downs, but before I used it soley for my ipod touch. Now that I have an iphone and a pretty good case on it, it won't fit and I decided to get a new one which could double as a windshield mount for the iphone's GPS capabilities. But thats proving easier said than done

Because it's still cheaper than buying one direct from Apple. They don't have to be jailbreaked or unlocked to get $300.

When I got my first iPod a couple years ago, I tried a couple different kinds of FM transmitters and came to the conclusion that they're pretty much universally awful. Experiences with others since then have only served to reinforce this. I ended up paying a couple hundred bucks for a Dension ice>Link head unit hookup and have been extremely happy with it. They don't make that specific model anymore, but I would buy another one of their products without any hesitation.

I'm looking into selling my original 4GB phone on ebay and would like to unlock it first. What is the best method for this? I am completely ignorant of the jailbreaking/unlocking scene.

Remember, my only aim is to sell it as unlocked.

How awesome is it that the day I start searching for it, is the same day that its back in stock at Amazon? So awesome... :D

Oh, they have a Kindol app? Wow, awesome. Now I just wait till they fix the battery issues.

If anyone wants a super cheap iSkin Revo2, PM me!

It's a nice case. I've had it on the phone twice but decided to just go naked. Comes complete with everything--plastic shield, unused screen protectors, original box.

$15 shipped...way cheaper than you'll find it anywhere.

Ugh - installed Intelliscreen through Cydia and the phone is hung up on the Reload Springboard step - just the little clocking animation going on in the middle.

Is there any way to force the phone to turn off?

- Cris

Edit: Nevermind - figured it out.

skip intelliscreen and use lockscreen info, it's free, more stable, and doesnt make your phone crash

:/ The best reading experience to be found on the iPhone is with Classics or Eucalyptus. Unfortunately, Classics only has a few preselected "classic" titles while Eucalyptus' selection is limited to the free, non-copyrighted books on Project Gutenberg. Then there are the 'ebook' apps like Kindle, Bookshelf and Stanza. Function and all that but they don't handle pdfs well for one and... they just aren't that pretty (there I said it). To read pdfs I have to resort to document viewers like Aji's apps, Airsharing and Briefcase. But the iPhone's screen/resolution is too small to see a full page (portrait or landscape) at a readable font. Most of my thumbing is to move the view within a page which gets tedious quickly. I've read a whole book on Classics and Stanza but not managed to finish one yet on the document viewers...

Maybe I'm expecting too much; I can't even find a reader app on par with Eucalyptus for the Mac. Guess we'll have to wait for the iPod Tablet.

I think Aji's reader is fine for PDF books. Just use it in fullscreen landscape, zoom in to so that the margins are as small as possible, then lock the screen so it only scrolls vertically. Works like a charm.

I got a question for you GAF. Do you think the iphone will ever go to verizon?

I'm thinking Q1 2010.

I'm thinking you don't follow iPhone stuff a lot. It's been early summer every year, IF anything's announced it will probably be there.

Nobody knows, but the main rumor I see, and it's definitely just that, is they'll wait for 4G which is supposed to be 1 universal standard. *shrug*

I don't think it'd be a realistic option for either company, at this point, until Verizon's LTE network is fully deployed.

I gotta google voice invite and holy shit is thing gonna be crazy when it comes out and all the features are added. I pranked my friend by sending SMS from my google voice inbox and had him scared thinking it was his crazy ex gf. You can manage/see everything from iPhone at the google voice mobile page and google has a full fledged app coming out for it soon.

LOL I fucking love this phone!

This happened to me recently, I was running low on battery and plugged the phone into my car charger and made a few calls. 10 minutes later the thing shut off. It was almost as if the charger drained the battery.

That's wild. I don't find it hard to believe that an intensive game can drain the battery faster than it can be charged, but for phone calls? Whoa.

I use this for PDF 'EBook''s

http://epub2go.com/

Formats them very decently. My wife is rereading all her Harry Potter's through Stanza and I've been using this site to convert them over for her. She grabs them from the email and it imports them automatically into Stanza for you.

That said...Stanza is amazing for a freebie. It's a blast rereading my old Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms books through it in bed at night and not needing a book light.

It's been working fine since, the best I could figure is that I didn't have the plug properly inserted into the bottom and it caused a quicker drain somehow.

I had another situation today where I had to txt someone directions. What did I end up doing? Looking it up in Maps, writing it out on a napkin, then copying from that in Messages so I could send it. WTF Apple/Google

I find the intensive battery thing very disappointing; I don't have any such problems with a DS or PSP. I cant believe there isn't a way to atleast skip the battery charging and just get power directly from A/C if the drain is happening too fast.

yeah, yeah I know but I'm just tired of vertical scrolling, if feels like I'm doing work. I've been spoiled by Classics :D . Also most of the documents I have to read have endnotes and no app handles bookmarks very elegantly...

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for next time I have to read a pdf but the restrictions (must be less than 30MB, no tables or vector images) don't sound too promising...

iPhone JD linked to a decent tips video for the using the 3GS camcorder function. I need to block out news on the 3GS or I might do something rash

Does anyone have any experience with DC iPhone chargers? I found this cheap DC->USB adapter on Amazon, but I'm not sure if half an amp is enough to charge the iPhone. I'm going on a road trip next Thursday, and probably won't ever use the charger more than that one day, but I'd like to by a halfway decent product since it looks like most of these DC->USB adapter die after a few weeks judging from various customer reviews. InCase makes a more "premium" looking one for $30.

So what's stopping you from copy/pasting the address?

If you had to rate the gps on the 3G/S out of ten, what would you give it? I've tried using my old iphone to find the AT&T store were i ordered my 3GS the other day and had some trouble. I know it wasnt real GPS on the OG, but i dont want to get my expectations too high for my next phone

Not the address, the directions. And I tried, you can't.

yeah, i was looking into this and you're right. it's an oversight on apple's part that the address field that shows up when you tap a google map result is not copy-able.

HOWEVER, to save yourself some trouble for next time, I found a workaround (hopefully it's only temporary as Apple will possibly fix this issue).

after selecting the address pin you want in maps, switch from search to directions in the app.

now, the actual street address shows up in the text field on top (instead of search terms or store name). you CAN select that text and then copy it to the clipboard, then into a text.

(I also tried emailing the map location, but it doesn't produce a plain text output of the address - nuts)
